I think he's about a 60-point player on good teams (well behind that pace this year). Great possession player and an awesome defender. Good to great at everything. Maybe I'm just afraid that we end up dealing Myers somewhere, and then he actually lives up to the Chara 2.0 expectations/hopes when he's gone. Also, O'Reilly's output is noticeably down this year. However, he only has a year left beyond this season while Myers has multiple years left. That has to come into the equation. I would do the straight up deal and try to extend him next year if he's a good fit. I like Tyler but he's not gonna be what we hope for. There's a bit too much put into "number one center," "top six forward," etc. when it comes to salaries. O'Reilly is a big building block. Somebody you want on your team wherever he is playing. But given his history I am really worried he will walk after next year. I like OReilly a lot, but he is not the player some make him out to be. Your top two centers and your top 2 defenseman will be years away from top end salary so you can afford to pay guys like ROR. It doesn't mean you want to waste money but you can afford better depth players until your top guys are ready to command top salaries. He could fill O'Reilly's roster spot and I think he would produce playing with the likes of Duchene or McKinnon. With him as a throw-in, Im not sure what I would give up as the main piece(s) that they might want. Grigorenko? Zadorov? NYI or StL first? Myers and Hodgson for O'Reilly and Av's first?
