One of my favorites, the tragic story of the late Derek Boogaard....
-
This is the best Matthews we'll ever see. He's already peaked physically, it's why he dominated at a young age. His Mom is Mexican, I live in California. All the Mexican kids here mature physically at a young age.... that's not racist, it's a fact. I don't hate Mexicans.

Potential playoff team yes.

I think the one-way deal means they want him to be a leader in Rochester. His AHL salary in year one is $225k, which is a lot for AHL level. He seems to have good leadership qualities, just not the stature to play at the NHL level.

Questionable article.... don't see DAL being much improved with losing guys like Eaves, Eakin, Sharp, Hudler, etc.. I like the Bishop tho, and I think Methot is underrated (he has a very favorable TRpm). Johan Larsson as an underrated talent? I don't see it... he can't shoot the puck and offensive awareness is lacking for an NHL player. Also says they're a playoff team if Lehner stays healthy. I'm sorry, I'm not buying it.

Want to see Watkins stay healthy and productive, and guys like White, Jones, Ragland and Lawson contribute... low expectations tho.

so ummmm.... Bills

Hmm, I distinctly remember him getting owned repeatedly on breakaways as well. Expect to see him face more breakaways in Dr. Phil's firewagon system.... we'll know soon enough if he's made any progress. He's a very aggressive goalie, he attacks the puck. Shooters know this and use it to their advantage on b-ways and shootouts.... that Kucherov goal was a prime example, where he didn't even need to shoot the puck... he know Lehner would be sprawling all over the place, he can't help himself.

Ullmark is at that stage of his career where he needs to playing a lot. Roch is where he'll see the most rubber, it's best for his development.

Okposo Hospitalized - Update: Reportedly Doing "Much Better"
pi2000 replied to That Aud Smell's topic in The Aud Club
After rereading his article, I'm of the opinion that he should retire. It's not worth his long term health to risk another episode. These situations never end well. I know some former pros who continue to struggle with lingering symptoms long after their careers have ended. -
Rip gives him #62 until he makes the team after camp... and then he gets #58.

What about AHL? Or Aliso Viejo Ice Palace Div 1 adult league?

I'm not offended by McDermott bringing up Jesus and whatnot. To each his own. I'm just concerned that if things start going sideways, we're going to hear about how God has a plan and stuff like that... which makes losing OK in his mind. I want a leader who doesn't tolerate losing. Maybe he doesn't tolerate losing and I shouldn't be concerned, but most religious folks I know accept bring dealt a bad hand because it's all part of God's plan.

Will college players play? What does the D1 schedule look like?
-
That would be God's will. :P

haha, yeah, nice wedding gift for ERod, however, I don't think he deserves a one-way deal. doesn't necessarily mean he'll be playing with the big club tho, both Nelson and Ullmark are on one-ways. It always amazes me how much difference there is in AHL vs NHL salary on the two-way deals.... Nylander 70K/yr in AHL, 832k/yr NHL. A one-way deal is huge for these guys.

Yeah, I think the players at the NFL level see through that stuff. He sounds like he'd make a fantastic college head coach. I could see a Nick Saban type of tenure he had with the Dolphins. Can't wait to hear post-game interviews where everything happened because God wanted it to happen that way and there's a lesson in all of it good or bad. At some point some reporter is going to call him out on it.

The whole size/strength thing is overrated IMO. Every prospect interviewed at dev camp spoke of getting bigger and stronger over the summer, when they should focus mostly on endurance and speed of movement. Strength will come naturally as they age. Getting too big too fast only slows you down and you lose some muscle memory and coordination in the process.

Name one top 15 goalie in the league who struggles as bad as Lehner on breakaways. Stopping breakaways is part of the game, it's not just shootout situations. He's the worst I've ever seen at stopping them, he needs to show improvement in that area or pay somebody else who is better at stopping them.
