  1. See, that kind of comment is one of the reasons I love this move toward more grit. Only one team can win the Cup, and I'm not devestated that Buffalo hasn't been that team. But what does upset me is watching guys skate around just going through the motions. I think this season will be different. Guys will have to emotionally involved because opponents will be bringing it after guys like Ott and Scott bruise a few of their teammates. And that will make Sabres' games exciting again. Granted, it's not winning a Cup, but it's a major step in the right direction.
  2. Sylvester :If Milan Lucic skates near the crease, will you beat him up? Scott: Probably, yeah .

    Independence Days

The Rockies are my assigned territory at work, so I have been keeping up with the fires. And yep, Colorado and Utah have ordered retailers to pull fireworks from the shelves. I heard that some municipalities are fighting to keep their firework displays, but most of them are/have been cancelled. As for me, getting together with some friends and chilling poolside with some beers and steaks on Wednesday. On Thursday, I'll be celebrating my B-day poolside with a different friend who has promised to keep me drunk and full of shrimp (how cool is she?). Life is good.
  4. Forgot to mention the cast of 1,000s movies like Quo Vadis, Spartacus, and The Robe.
  5. M, starring Peter Lorre, has got be on my list, it's brilliant. It's German, from the late 30's. The original vampire movie, Nosferatu, is another fave. Also, the Thin Man series is a hillarious and fun who-dunnit, and I like pretty much every 30's, 40's and 50's film noir movie I've ever seen.
  6. Your reply is awesome, well played.
  7. What the Blink 182 lady looks like today... http://www.buzzfeed....ooks-like-today
  8. Shinedown reminds me a lot of Godsmack, whose earlier stuff I like a lot: The bands sound very similar and pretty much each song sounds like every other one. I've never seen him and am looking forward to Stranglehold live and in the flesh. As for his politics, we do not see eye-to-eye but I know going in what to expect. In the words of the great philosopher David Lee Roth circa 1982, "Van Halen is about parties, fun, and girls. Some bands try to send messages with their songs and with their shows. If you want to send a message, just use Western Union." In other words, "Ted, just shut up and play."
  9. Tomorrow is Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, P.O.D., Slash and a couple of others at the Lunatic Luau in Va Bch. On the 19th is Nugent, Styx, and REO. Yeah, my girl's excited for that one. And while I'm not really dreading it, it'd be a much cooler show if this was 1983.
  10. True. If he signs with Bflo, does that mean he and Thigpen battle it out for the #2 spot with the loser getting waived? Or does it mean Brad Smith will no longer be named the 3rd QB? I'm guessing the former, but who knows? Final cuts are a long ways away.
  11. Given the NFL is increasing the number of dressed players on game day from 45 to 46, I think that (if he's as strong-legged as advertised) they will keep him. He can pin opposing offenses on their own 20 against what we're hoping will be a much-improved defense and will help Lindell's leg stay fresher for FGs and PATs. And like you said, it will also allow a much younger guy than Lindell to be the last man on KO coverage. It could end up being a brilliant move, but like everything else, time will tell.
  12. If my doctor misdiagnosed your injury so it was never treated and properly repaired, and then I turned around and gave you crap for not playing as well as you and I thought you could have/should have /would have liked to, well, you'd be PO'd too. I have no problem with Hodgson giving Vancouver brass a hard time. That said, I think Giles and Vigneult are looking for something to take the fans' attention away from their shoddy performance so they can keep fiddling about while Rome burns. The fact the 'Nucks have been as good as they've been is depsite those two arses, not because of them. As a fan of the Canucks, I hope they both get dumped very soon...
  13. The Bills O-line gave up the fewest sacks in the league and was good enough to have something like the 5th average per rush. I'm not saying they couldn't get better, nor that they shouldn't try to make the OL better, but I have zero problem with them wanting to fix what has been for the past several seasons a horrendous defense.
  14. It's downright funny looking back through the first few pages of this thread. One person posted twice that he was "raging" over the trade. But now that you've all had a chance to see a bit of Hodgson, is he a step above Kass? Do you guys like his game?
  15. Sounds to me like they recognized they had player other teams coveted at a postion of relative depth that could be traded to secure a point-producing centerman.
  16. Yes, fans whining on a message board is exactly what wins Stanley Cups.
  17. Only time will tell for sure; I'm inclined to believe he doesn't based on what I've seen of his play in Buffalo and read of his play in Rochester. And that's why I can't help but think he'll be under a fair amount of pressure. Vancouver is my 2nd favorite, so I hope he develops into the beast that most Canuck fans think he will. But I do have reservations...
  18. I disagree with that. It seems they are looking for him to be the dominant physical player he was in Juniors. The AHL and NHL are full of big boys and I think he's learning that he's no longer the baddest man on the block. Regardless, 'Nucks fans are expecting him to be their answer to Lucic. I believe he's gotta' be under a lot of pressure...
  19. As some of you guys know, Vancouver is my 2nd favorite team. It's safe to say I've watched more 'Nuck games than anyone else here, and here's what I can tell you about Hodgson: He's fully recovered from surgery to repair a ruptured disc as evident by his play this year. He's a decent skater. Not great, but decent, and certainly decent-enough to fit in Buffalo's preferred push-the-puck breakout offense. He has some intangibles when he has the puck and it's obvious he can see the ice really well, he just "gets it." He has a strong slapshot and a deceptively quick release on wristers and snap shots. Plus, and this is something we haven't seen much of in Buffalo, he finds the back of the net. He's makes good reads on the rush and can maintain possesion when in the O zone. He isn't a power forward or banger but he's shown some feistiness and a willingness to go to the ugly areas of the ice. And while it's unlikely he'll ever be a force in his own end, he doesn't shy away from playing in the D zone and shows hustle on the backcheck. And lastly, so you can sound like the smartest guy in the pub, his last name is pronounced Hodson - the g is silent. While Kass may very well end up having a better career, the amount of talent and finish Hodgson brings to the Sabres TODAY makes this a solid trade. Hodgson will be a very good player for a long time and as others have said, toughness is easier to find in the offseason than skill, and Hodgson is years ahead of Kass. Trust me, you'll fall in love with this kid, just give him a chance.
  20. Happy Holidays! And no, that's not meant to be politically correct, but instead, to offer the best wishes for any religious or secular holiday (including New Year's Eve) observed by my Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu friends...
  21. I'm getting an error that says I "don't have permission to use this feature." I'm logged in, and I have a PM waiting for me, but I can't access it. I've checked the help section, but to no avail. I made a similar request yesterday, but haven't yet heard/seen anything, and the problem persists. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!
  22. As much I'd love to see a 2-0 lead coming back to Bflo, I'm afraid that Hartford Carolina will play their best hockey and send the series back to Bflo tied. We're out 2 of our better D in Teppo and Dimitri and Carolina will be pulling out all of the stops. I'm hoping that doesn't happen, but I'm still liking that we took home-ice advantage away from them if it does. It would be a race to 3 wins with 3 games in our barn and 2 at RBC. I like the Sabres' chances series-wise (ie, I expect them to beat Carolina in 5 games). Hopefully tonight's score will be Sabres 4-2, but my gut tells me it'll be a 3-2 Hartford Carolina win - their only of the series.
