  1. We got 10" a couple of weeks ago. It turns out snowplows matter, and for southern cities who have very few of them, a little snow can bring things to a halt. Be safe!
  2. USA HockeyVerified account ‏ @ usahockey Jonathan Quick to start in goal for U.S. tomorrow against Slovakia. #teamusa #usah 1:44 AM - 12 Feb 2014 http://https://twitt...537142032453632
  3. I have a different opinion on what constitutes a sport. If people are competing and the way the winner is determned is by having a better time or more goals/points, it's a sport. If judges determine the winner, it's not a sport but a contest. Not everyone involved in sports are athletic (pool players, dart throwers), and some that participate in contests are (like figure skaters and freestyle snowboarders). So, by my definition, skiing for best time with shooting skills added to the mix most definitely makes it a sport.
  4. It's 2 am in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton, & Isle of Wight. Where in Va are you?
  5. That's what you said. No it isn't. Yes it is. No it isn't. Yes it is. No it isn't. Yes it is. No it isn't. Yes it is. No it isn't. Yes it is. No it isn't. Yes it is. No it isn't. Yes it is.
  6. NBC has the Olympics and this game has the Canadian captain, a dynamic Russian goal scorer, and about as close to a household name as there is in the States with Miller. In other words, it was an ad for the Olympics.
  7. I don't know of any Russian NHLers in 1980, so I'd say zero. The Soviet bloc sent KHL pros, but the US was far from being the only country with amateur Olympians.
  8. <Alex Trebek voice> No, I'm sorry; that's incorrect.
  9. I liked the Olympics better when the western countries sent amateurs too, but I'm not so sure why you're saying there's an upcoming hockey drought.
  10. If this play from last night is any indication, he seems to have rebounded from his benching pretty well.
  11. That assistant coach is Clint Malarchuk. It struck me as odd that he'd be going after Torts that way since they know each other from their time with the Sabres.
  12. Just had a random thought: Will the credibility the Sabres have likely gained with the addition of Patty, TM, and CP have enough reach to influence the league offices in regards to suspensions for questionable hits given and recieved by Sabres?
  13. Thanks for posting the link 26CB! A few highlights for those unable to listen: He talked about his role during games while with Ottawa - scouting the opponent - and that he knows the abilities of Buffalo's players well. He said he already knows the players he wants to keep and the players he's ready to move on from. Said Grigorenko is big, strong, talented, and like a lot of young players, needs to be pushed. Said that at times he was the best player in Junior hockey and at others he was invisible. He prefers players who don't need to be pushed but acknowledged there are a finite number of those guys. He said that it's common to have to push young players, and it's up to the organization to develop them properly so they no longer have to be pushed. Howard brought up analytics, said there are things he can learn from them but that they are more useful the less you know about the game (and I agree). He said "hockey sense" is far more important but it isn't always visible to casual fans and doesn't always show up in statistics.
  14. They used to go until they added the automatic game misconduct, and that meant a player missed the following game. You did. A few were stretches or reaches, but I'd be hard pressed to come up with 30, too. I think the biggest reason it won't go anywhere anytime soon is that, whether a person likes it or not, it's simply part of hockey culture.
  15. I am not anti-fighting, I love it. But the lack of fighting doesn't seem to have harmed college hockey's popularity.
  16. Murray seems like a good fit, I'm pleased with that hire. But I'm not so sure Patrick isn't past his prime. Yes, he's in the Hall, and yes, hockey people have heard his name. And yes, hopefully I'll be proven wrong because I just don't see him being anything close to a saviour.
  17. I don't read hockeybuzz.com but I see his name on a lot of articles at sabreshockeycentral.com. I think he started that site.
  18. My bad, I misread your post. It is weird how different little things like that pop up. I never understood why people wasted their breath by saying "the" before route numbers. "Traffic's backed up on THE 90 westbound." Huh? Why not just say "Traffic's backed up on 90 westbound." It seemed like almost everyone up there said it, but I don't recall ever doing it.
  19. I have friends from towns around Hazelton who have moved down and say "yous." I'm guessing your mom picked it up living there.
  20. I used to be that way but over the years I just kind of gave up and decided it was easier to shrug my shoulders. But I do appreciate you taking the time to clear that up - thanks!
  21. I did a quick google search but found nothing but returns speculating on rentals and trades. It would be cool if you can confirm or deny it. And you're in "Bad News" Va? Is that Christopher Newport's bad news?
  22. I heard from a coworker of mine that there is a component of the CBA prohibiting a rental from re-signing with the team that dealt him. Do any of you know if there's any truth to that?
  23. Here's what we know: Gleason and Ott were best friends from Junior days and now they can't seem to stand each other. The rumor is Gleason hit it and Ms. Ott had a baby daughter from the affair. I've heard Ms Ott left Steve, and I've heard she and Steve have full custody. Who knows how much of it is true? Who cares?
  24. Yep. And while they are grammatically incorrect, they are idioms, so they are a little different. As I said in another post in this thread, the danger we all have in posting here is that none of us are perfect.
