  1. Is her English better than yours or would she have added that apostrophe, also? :P Don't get me wrong, I'm guilty of it as well, but that's the rich irony with which we are all flirting by posting in this thread; we all manage to screw up every now and then!
  2. Not me in the picture, it's just an old print representation of the Campbell of Breadalbane tartan. As for what's worn under the kilt... A Scotsman clad in kilt, left the bar one evening fair And one could tell by how he walked he'd drunk more than his share He staggered on until he could no longer keep his feet then he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street. Later on two young and lovely girls just happened by And one says to the other, with a twinkle in her eye "Oh see yon sleepy Scotsman, so strong and handsome built?" " I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt." So they crept upon the sleeping Scotsman, quiet as could be And they lifted up his kilt above the waist so they could see And there behold, for them to view, beneath his Scottish skirt, 'Twas what the Lord had blessed him with upon his birth. Well they marveled for a moment, then one said, "We best be gone." "But let's leave a present for our friend before we move along." So as a gift, they left a blue silk ribbon tied into a bow Around the bonnie star the Scot's kilt did lift and show. When the Scotsman woke to nature's call, he stumbled toward the trees Behind the bush, he lifts the kilt, and gawks at what he sees, And in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes, "Lad, I don't know where you've been but I see you won first prize! Yep, Rayzor drives me nuts with it. :death:
  3. English is Germanic and Gaelic comes from Old Irish. The two languages aren't anything alike. There is no "sentence structure" that carries over, or influences, English from the Gaelic (although I think you really meant declined pronouns). The "yous" NS hears most definitley does not come from Scotland as he posits, or from the Gaelic, which you imply. In Scots, 2nd person plural is you-uns (it's where Pittsburghers get "yinz) and in Gaelic, it's "sibh." "Yous" comes from Ulster in Ireland. Back to the thread's topic: My biggest pet peeve is when talking heads - and it seems more common in sports than other places - use an adjective as an adverb. Eg, "He got the shot off quick" instead of "He got the shot off quickly." Nails on a ###### chalkboard.
  4. The plural of you is you. Even in Scotland.
  5. Unless you're Pat Kaleta, then you get 10.
  6. I don't know what that sentence means. Are you saying that Scots do not speak English?
  7. Assuming the correct pronunciation of a place is how its inhabitants pronounce it, Baldimore is correct. Same with New Awlins (Orleans). Also, the irony of the misspellings in posts about grammar is killing me. Grammer? Sirname? Back to ink's original post, the ###### corporate-speak is equally annoying. Circle back, reach out, synergy, opportunities (as opposed to sales leads). positioning (as opposed to presenting), etc. It's bad enough working with a bunch of lemmings incapable of independent thought, but having to listen to them, too? fml.
  8. Yeah, especially after Lindy got his hands on him.
  9. Instead of drafting a mid-to-late rounder, I'd rather see them sign an experienced - albeit not spectacular - vet. Another rookie will have limited value in terms of what he can do to advance EJ's development whereas a vet can play a huge role in helping him along. At the end of next season, we'll have a much better idea of what kind of QB EJ will be in the NFL, and we can draft another rookie then. Just my take...
  10. I think they view lengthy suspensions as more harmful to their members than the events that precipitate them.
  11. God my memory sucks. I must've confused Kaleta's and Scott's situations. I mean, Scott didn't appeal his, did he? .
  12. I don't know for sure - it's not like I ever really looked it up - but I did read an article read somewhere (TSN maybe?) on Kaleta potentially appealing. It was kind of a throw-away line at the end, but it said something along the lines there was a possibility the suspension could be extended... Kaleta appealed his most recent suspension? I thought he decided against it.
  13. I hope they end up slapping a few more games on it...
  14. I hate getting punched in my handbook.
  15. Fair enough. I always thought of him being closer to being a talented, hardworking pest. He strikes me as a Nolan type of guy.
  16. And I'd love to see Conacher in any Sabres jersey. It's probably the hometown-thing more than anything else, but I do like his game.
  17. After skating on the first line with the Sedins in preseason, Torts won't put Kassian back out with them. http://www.vancouver...l#ixzz2nNmkN8IN If he hasn't yet, when will he? Or won't he?
  18. I've noticed it too, and I have a theory: It's to remind fans, media, and prospective GMs that Nolan truly is interim. This would allow the GM to say it was his choice to remove the interim tag and that his hand was not forced by Patty or TPeg - even if it was. Don't know if that is what's going down, but it would go a long way to prevent the new GM from being publicly emasculated.
  19. 2013 Greater Area Rochester Honda Dealers Frozen Frontier presented by Labatt. Doesn't really roll of the tongue, does it? But it sounds like it'll be a good game and obviously the outdoor thing is pretty cool. Is Frontier Field the old Silver Stadium?
  20. You guys might already know this, but I just learned the IIHF pushed back the dealine to announce Olympic rosters to January 7th. USA Hockey will still announce their roster during the Leafs/Wings Winter Classic telecast on New Year's Day.
  21. I'm no attorney, but I think that might be the difference between homicide (intent to kill) and manslaughter (no intent to kill but behavior stupid enough to pull it off).
  22. No argument with the stats or his history, I'm probably nit picking, but I wouldn't use any form of the word "great" with Stevie. He's just too inconsistent and seems to disappear in clutch time more often than not. I do think he'd be a very good # 2 on a team with a bona fide # 1.
