  1. There would be worse moves, that's for sure. He did a great job down here when the Norfolk Admirals were the Bolts' affiliate. Players seemed to play hard for him and the sense was that he knew what he was doing - he knew which buttons to push and when to push them.
  2. Not speaking for anybody else, I certainly expected them to receive the wake-up call. A player's skillset is his skillset, but the one thing he can control and improve upon on a night-to-night basis is his hustle, jam, whatever you want to call it. I expected them to play hard, and while I won't say they mailed it in, they sure didn't respond to the opportunity to show their new (interim) coach what they have and how they can contribute. Hopefully Rolston can reach them, but as much as I hate to say it, I think the complacency and comfort of the players in the dressing room may now be endemic and blowing up the roster might not be the worst thing to happen to this club. I really hope they (the players) prove me wrong on that point.
  3. I don't disagree that CoHo has had his share of D zone lapses, but can you remember a Sabres team that gave up as many quality shots as this year's does? The blueliners' play from top to bottom has been very poor atrocious. I guess what I'm saying is that there's plenty of blame to go around...
  4. I don't know about that one. Granted, Pommer and Van would help these numbers, but isn't sitting on 1 goal for the year, something like 8 or 9 points and carrying a minus? My biggest concern isn't just the points, but the combination of the points combined with the fact he's what, 35 or 36 years old, and to my eye has slowed down a lot. I've always respected him and his game and if this was 2009, I'd probably feel differently, but I'd pass on Iginla in 2013.
  5. I just kind of assumed there'd be a pick too, but didn't clarify if that's what they said. I was just wondering if it's BS or if there's something to it...
  6. Weber has done okay in the dozen games he's dressed. Reggie got off to a decent start, but... And Ehrhoff has been wildly inconsistent this year while looking lost in his own end half the time. I'm not arguing Sulzer is a better player than either Reggie or Christian, but I will argue that those two have grossly underperformed this year while Sulzer is his usual self - nothing spectacular but positionaly sound - it's more than we're getting out of of Reg or Erhoff so far... These are opinions. You don't have to agree with me, you are welcome to be wrong.
  7. I don't take issue with your overall point, but Sulzer's been anything but dead weight this year - he's probably been their most steady Dman so far.
  8. There are only a few hockey fans here at work and one of them is an Avs fan. He emailed me to tell me that the Denver sportstalk station he was streaming claimed Bflo "is close" to dealing Pommer for O'Reilly. I asked what else they said and he said they started discussing possible linemates for Pommer. My first thought is it's pure speculation and conjecture, I want to call BS on this one. I looked online to see if anybody else was reporting it and didn't see anything. Have any of you heard of a Pommer/O'Reilly deal in the works? I'm still leaning toward calling BS, but then again, I didn't see Lindy getting canned this week either, so who knows?
  9. Not bad on the guitar playing, but it may be one of the ugliest axes I've seen in some time. I was pleasantly surprised at the crowd's reaction to Fallon's Thank You to the NHL for ending the lockout. I've only caught his show a couple of times, is Fallon a hockey fan or was that just him doing his job as a network schill?
  10. Staubach, Aikman,and Romo?
  11. Mosquitoes can carry the AIDS virus, but they cannot infect anyone with it. West Nile Virus is a different story... "If you can't beat them in an alley, you can't beat them on the ice." - Conn Smythe
  12. Not allowing the easily-enforceable ban on assault rifles to expire probably wouldn't have prevented Aurora from happening, but it may very well have minimized the resulting carnage.
  13. I'm not sure I'd go there. I recall the Brits being pretty on-board with the whole Cold War Era policy of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction). The fact that you have a goalie of your own is generally considered to be the largest detterent to running somebody else's. And it's not just an American attitude, it's a North American attitude, and it may help explain the sorry state of hockey in Great Britain,
  14. I prefer the Winter Olympics, most of the summer sports bore me. That said, I will try to catch some Velodrome Cycling, I think that has got be one of the coolest sports on the planet - it is fun to watch and looks like it would be a blast to do..
  15. Thanks for the kind words. You're right, we don't disagree that much.
  16. I guess that's where you and I disagree: pushing Lucic into the boards and trading face scrubs isn't the proper response. The ice should have been littered with gloves after that shot on Miller. The fact it wasn't is incredibly lame to me. You just don't shouldn't run goaltenders and get away with it.
  17. I'm not posting a video of my favorite moment because it's too painful to watch. I'm talking about the Lucic run on Miller and the lack of a response by any Sabre. That, I believe, was the tipping point for the old core and the realization that the Sabres were in dire and urgent need of team toughness. As I posted before, I can handle losing, I cannot accept a perceived lack of desire or heart. The Sabres showed both of those things against the B's that game and I'm genuinely excited that history will not repeat itself this season.
  18. I think they're making the right moves by adding physical players to the team. Instead of the typical soft bottom 6 guys we've seen, playing agianst lines 3 and 4 will be like showering with a sandpaper sponge.
  19. Weird, I wonder why the text was so small in my previous post? I know that Lord/Laird means absolutely nothing, it's more of a description for an estate owner than a proper title like Baron or Duke, but for those of us into history and/or geneology, it's something fun to goof around about.
  20. Well, I'm American have been granted the Scottish title of Laird. Does that count? :flirt:
  21. I've heard San Jose is very interested. SJ or LA, either way, they're both a lot closer to Phoenix than Buffalo is...
  22. One of the the things that annoyed Caps fans is that over the past several seasons Semin has been unwilling to sign anything other than 1-year deals. He may be pricey, but the longest deal he's signed has been 2 years - I'm not sure a team has to make a long-term commitment to him...
  23. He is an easy guy to root for, and I love his heart, but I do agree. He could probably have a great AHL dipsy-doodling around guys in Rochester...
