  1. I’ve seen you take particular interest in goaltending for 2022-23. If the Canes go to the conference finals with Raanta and his backup, does that make Frederik Andersen available at the right price? He went 35-14-3 this year, and I have to assume the Canes could use the 4M (for one more season, BTW) in cap space. Or can the Sabres sign Jack Campbell as a UFA? Either move makes turning the corner a whole lot more reasonable/likely.
  2. Sorry to drag up a dated thread, but I’ve had a few Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPAs and I’m a posting fool right now. 🤷 Where’s the news? The draft is six weeks from today. Peters broke a couple things including the Eichel trade, but this seems to be aging like milk.
  3. I agree he deserves a shot in the show, but are third line minutes his best use organizationally? Good problem to have for the big club.
  4. This game is bonkers. Hope the Flames extend the series!
  5. (sorry to quote you twice) Aw crap, I forgot about Krebs. So maybe they roll out a kid line, with Krebs, JJ, and Quinn as a third line…and hope they flourish against another team’s third line? Bottom line for me is I need Cozens in the 2C role. To me, he’s more qualified than anyone else and his offense is coming.
  6. I’m fine with the idea, but 1) I don’t think Toronto trades him in the division, and 2) Asplund isn’t a top six guy. He belongs on this team on a shutdown type of line. Defensive zone starts/hop on the ice against the other team’s top line when it is needed. If you acquire Nylander…and at 7M salary…he needs to be on your top line with Tage & Skinner. That helps Tuch too by pushing him to second line, which is probably his best fit.
  7. I have it on 100% reliable commentary that the day GMKA called Taylor, Chris thought the call was to game plan organizationally for next season. And GMKA told Taylor they were going in another direction. It was out of left field. Not that you need to “manage someone out in consultation with HR” like in a regular job, but the news was literally a total shock. To me, this strongly points to GMKA not going rogue to get “his guy” in the role of minor league head coach. This decision was influenced. I don’t know if Appert is a better coach or not, but those reports you’re referencing are true.
  8. I was impressed with the engagement and overall volume of the ROC fans during this run. They didn’t need the scoreboard to tip them to make noise. Lots of organic “let’s go Amerks” chants during play. Fans even started The Wave last night. I’ve been thinking about this. My opinion is that JJ or Quinn should only be called up if they are in the top six mix. I don’t need them trying to play the role of a third or fourth line. Top six wingers seemingly set in stone are Skinner, Tuch, VO, and probably Casey (assuming Tage & Cozens are 1C & 2C). It may be antiquated to build a roster that way, but assuming Zemgus & anyone but Eakin are 3C & 4C, I just don’t know if it makes sense for Quinn/JJ to get third line minutes on this team next season. And KO is set in stone to take one slot of third line winger. One or both guys deserve a shot, but, unless an injury…not sure they have a perfect fit opening night. I would love to hear your opinion because I find myself nodding my head in agreement whenever you post.
  9. It would be wild if the goalie was the answer lol. But I think it might be Armia?
  10. I’m sitting up in heaven where the stage used to be. I’m amazed at the ticket buying response to this playoff run. It gives me some hope that AHL hockey and the Americans are still important to Rochesterians. Exciting!
  11. But there is a rule and Tim Connolly was a long time ago. Save your whatever for the garage league that is the NHL and/or Bettman. Also, this is an opinion column, but it’s got the info. 17 teams exceeded the cap that year with LTIR. https://www.thestar.com/amp/sports/hockey/opinion/2021/07/10/the-tampa-bay-lightning-didnt-cheat-their-way-to-the-stanley-cup-get-over-the-salary-cap-thing.html
  12. Respectfully, I don’t agree at all with this. They didn’t skirt or circumvent anything. People hate the rule and I get it, but Tampa didn’t invent the rules.
  13. This is the sixth time in the last eight years the Bolts have gone to the Eastern Conference Finals. Hard to believe in the salary cap era.
  14. This was rumored to be the downfall of the Bills super bowl game against the Giants. Those Tampa strip clubs will getcha.
  15. They moved venues because they were fourth in the order for scheduling and almost never got Saturday home game.
  16. Well the 13 win streak team was also their playoff team. The Comets were decimated by call ups the majority of the season.
  17. We agree that Dell is not a good goalie at the AHL level. I’ve been watching this playoff run closely. The only game(s) that I thought Dell “stole,” or more appropriately, played well/very well in, was 1) Belleville game one (stole), & 2) Utica at ROC game three (very good). All other games he was pretty average. Plugged in Amerks fans don’t have a lot of confidence in him. At the same time, there’s an exhaustion with UPL in his underperformance relative to his billing/prospect status. And he has been injured every year. My gut says they’ll roll with Dell and hope he gets hot. And only turn to UPL if ROC has their backs against the wall in this best of five series v Laval.
  18. Crazy stat: Bowness has coached more NHL games than anyone else in league history, either as an assistant or as a head coach.
  19. It appears it was a turnstile down the tunnel for the Lightning today due to blocking shots. Perry, Cernak, Stamkos, Hagel, and maybe more. They’ll get the credit for the bumps and bruises because they won, but they also deserve it.
  20. He had one SOG in the third, and it was a HEAVY wrist shot. You can’t teach people to shoot like that. It’s no wonder why he was drafted in the first round. He’s pretty involved in the play when he’s out there. Hopefully his puck luck turns around.
  21. Seeing assistant coaches Michael Peca and Mike Weber egg on the Amerks fans hanging on the glass when they headed toward the locker room after handshakes drew a big smile on my face.
  22. Down a goal to start the third. Owned the ice for the final 20. It was wonderful.
  23. Essentially yes. I moved down a few rows at the final whistle. LFG!!
