  1. morning skates on game day are important though. they aren't skating so hard that they are tired. it's to keep the legs fresh and keep them active, helps to avoid injury etc. somewhat related, when i was in the Air Force we used to have physical training tests. most people thought they had to rest for days leading up to the test, which is fine, but, i alwyas performed better when i did light jogs on the days leading up to it and the early morning of my test. jog a mile or two at a 15 minute mile pace, then a few hours later do the test and run as hard as i can. sort of the same thing for these guys on gameday
  2. the only thing we can say for sure after 4 games is that the Leafs are better offensively but, defensively yikes, I'd have to give us the nod and our D will only get better as Dahlin settles in. Marner is what the 3rd best forward on their team, 4th if Nylander were there? He'd be easily the 2nd best forward in Buffalo. It will be interesting to see how things shake up over the course of the first 10-15 games can't say it any better than this
  3. and i honeslty hope it continues because I want him to command a salary north of $13M/yr. With JT's salary what it is, and what Marner will need, that cap hell will not be enviable. they'll have a hard time with depth and defense with that much tied up in offense.
  4. Jeez, when it rains it pours. My father in law has pretty tell tale signs of skin cancer, but refuses to see a doctor because he is a Christian Scientist (not to be confused with Scientology) but he believes that you can cure any ailment through prayer alone. in fact, he hasnt seen a doctor since college, so who know's what else could be wrong. i shudder to think. hope your parents get better and you get some better news. Indeed, my wife talked to some Sheriff friends of ours and they said that right now, there is nothing we can do other than keeping an eye on our kids and minimizing any risk.
  5. They are giving up a league worst 4.25 goals per game. that's crazy. we'd have to give up 10 in our next game to match them. Can't take away from their offense whatsoever, but, is pumping out over 4.25 goals a game sustainable? tough call. lack of defense and reliable goaltending will cause some issues, especially in the playoffs
  6. Taking emotion out of it will be tough. this kid is 7 years older than my son and i don't know what i would do if something happened to him that i couldve prevented by moving. for now though we will continue as we have been the whole time, my son is never outside without one of us and that will not change. but, eventually i would like to let my son go to a friends house and not hav to worry about him going alone when he is a few years older. we are going to hold out hope that the family will move once the investigation is complete and the truth is out. it is indeed far beyond bullying and its shocking because the kid is 12, I am not far off believing that something happened to him when he ws younger and now he's doing the same thing? i am sorry to hear that you were a traget of his, i can't even imagine the pain from that. they live 5 houses down from us and i just get sick to my stomach whenever we walk by and i think of the kids that have been hurt by him and how i couldnt bare to imagine if it happened to either of my kids. we are likely in wait and see mode, but, what can law enforcement do to the kid? he's 12. can he be taken to a home for treatment etc? i believe that our school district can not allow him into school, so maybe they will move because of that. i just don't know what to do.
  7. Last week we found out from some friends on our street that their son, along with several others on the street have been vicitmized by another boy. Two kids have come forward so far and CPS and the police are involved and investigating. Supposedly, there are more victims than the two that have come forward but they haven't said anything yet. The kid who has been identified is 12 and his 'victims' have been younger. 3 families including our friends (house on the market already) have already made plans to move and my wife and i are considering it ourselves since we have an almost 5 year son and 9 month old daughter. Are we jumping the gun here? being unreasonable in anyway? I mean nothing has been proven yet, but, we have been very good friends with the one family and we believe them. this is one of the hardest situations i have ever been in, protecting my children is #1 in my life, but the financial stress it will cause is high as well since housing prices have gone up quite a bit since we built ours, but, can you really put a price on the safety of your kids? my wife asked "what happens if we uproot and move only to move into another neighborhood where this could also be happening?" chances of that are slim i would think, but, you never know
  8. IMO, he will 'struggle' early on until he finds his groove and the right line mates. One thing i noticed about the Vegas game is that Mittelstadt and Thompson had hardly any offensive zone faceoffs, did anyone else notice that? I wouldve thought that line would be used more offensively than defensively, but, it really didn't seem that way.
  9. Matthews and Tavares have 13 goals combined in 4 games...yikes.

  11. And isn't he a Housley favorite since the WJC? makes sense
  12. hahaha well then, I'm with you! Can't wait for Thursday
  13. Really shooting for the moon there with the goal predictions, love the optimism, but, I'd be willing to bet we have no one over 35 goals and no one over 80 points
  14. Agree on the lines, although I do think that we see Sheary and Skinner possibly switch unless Skinner and Eichel figure out who carries the puck and drives the play.
  15. we're talking about tenths of a point here, approximately is fine
  16. Nylander-Mittelstadt-Thompson again, I really hope they do well again. It would be nice to see them gel and build a lot of chemistry
  17. but, if they leave a voicemail, you can decide if it's even worth calling them back
  18. i did the math the other day and it was ~1/4 point per game difference.
  19. I don't think you can get a 3rd for Girgensons though, maybe Ottawa would bite at that
  20. I have lived in Texas....and hated it more than anything
  21. yeah true, but, they could be able to at least get the person's approximate height and weight for starters. but oh well. that'll teach my neighbors to not lock their doors
  22. in our neighborhood, we have had someone stealing things out of people's cars at night. hasn't been breaking into cars, but, has been taking advantage of people who have forgot to lock their doors. we have a facebook group in our neighborhood and a few neighbors mentioned finding their car doors open in the morning and things missing. i have a Nest doorbell with camera and decided to go through that notifications from that night and saw the person walk up my driveway, check the doors on my car and then walk away because i lock them every night. anyway, i called the non-emergency line sheriff's office and told them about it and how several neighbors reported missing items from their cars. he asked if i had anything stolen and i said no, but, i have a video clip of the culprit and asked if they would like to have it and he asked if you could clearly see the person's face, which i said no, and he said well there's nothing we can do about it then.
  23. Interesting thoughts you have here. Just sharing my own personal story about damage to joints, tendons etc. I have always had issues with my ankles from early on, i would sprain them all the time, but there was always something odd about my injuries. My right ankle would often sprain by my foot flaring out like Dahlin's left foot in the picture, and my left ankle would always roll underneath. Never really thought much of it. Later on in life I started having pain with my left hip that was progressivley worse as i got older. After numerous doctors and Ortho's i finally figured out what was causing my issues. Leg length discrepancy, my left leg was shorter than my right leg. My left foot had been trying to compensate the length discrepancy by rolling out a little bit trying to make up the difference, this explains why my left ankle was always spraining by rolling under. On the other side, my right ankle being on the longer leg would try to compensate and would often look like Dahlin's left foot. There's a chance that Dahlin might have a leg length discrepancy, even a very small barely noticeable one can cause issues which get worse with age. Deterioration of the ankles can be slowed by having a foot mold done along with a full xray, hip down to feet to determine the exact difference. I had this done and was given inserts with a lift on the heel to raise my left leg. I try to always wear the lift even in my hockey skates, i have not had an ankle injury since. problem is, at almost 40 and just figuring this out a few years ago, the damage is already done. Arthritis in both ankles and left hip, and tendon in my left ankle is hanging on by a thread (no more basketball or volleyball for me). I am not saying that is what is wrong with Dahlin's ankles, but it's worth a quick check and get the length of his checked. sorry for the long post
