  1. AND actually play better in the 1st period...yikes, we'd be scary. Special teams is super important, was it the Winnipeg game that we killed the penalty late in the game that went in to OT and then took another one to finish OT?
  2. definitely haven't thought of it this way, great thinking and post
  3. We need a lot more depth scoring before I am ready to make that comparison. the 05-06 Sabres had 11 guys with over 40 points, a 6 guys with over 20 goals...absurd numbers there. but, things are starting to pan out similarly in that we didn't expect much this year other than improvement on last season, just like we didn't expect much from them coming out of the lock out.
  4. I have followed a Pens blogger for a few years because he knows hockey and he's a good writer, anyway, i saw a lot of jokes about hotdogs, but, put a piile of donuts in front of Phil and I'm sure he wouldn't be sad haha
  5. Did you guys see Hutton in the last game during a timeout? he skated to the bench and gave some heated encouragement to the team, they listened
  6. although, all you can eat Ted's and Louie's might get Phil excited to be in Buffalo
  7. they could pull this off if it wasn't for those meddling kids and that darned salary cap
  8. my friend thinks it could be better even though i told him it rocks. he wants to change it up a little and maybe add some crossed sabres on the body of the Buffalo and some bigger horns. we are probably coming to Buffalo for the Red Wings game in February and want to bring it and see if we can get it autographed by some players, i think getting a laugh out of the guys seeing it would be good enough
  9. well good luck in figuring out the next step in what line of work will make you happy. i am almost 40 and I finally found a career that i can be happy doing until i retire. sometimes it can take a while and it isn't always easy along the way, but, you'll get there.
  10. i have been around the block and in a few different industries and learning something new especially when it isn't on your own time is icing on the cake. a friend of mine is artistic like yourself, he got his degree in 3-D animation from Full Sail with the intention of being a video game designer, but, after graduation he realized that he'd need to be in cities like San Jose, San Fran, Seattle where the cost of living doesn't lineup with what they make, not to mention he was 31 when he finished his degree, an old timer in the video game world. like you said, it's who you know in a lot of circles, and fortunately i knew someone and he got an interview and now he works for the Air Force doing 3-D design in an intelligence setting, making products for the DoD and he absolutely loves it. Like you, he's been teaching himself python and a few other things as he goes. side note-my friend decided to get into hockey and be a Sabre fan, we came up with an idea and he 3-D designed and printed it out with a 3-D printer and now we are doing the finishing touches of a Buffalo pooping on a Maple Leaf, we are considering doing a whole bunch and selling them, market is pretty small though haha
  11. getting paid to learn something new is a great and its a resume builder. my last job asked me to teach myself java and said i could do it a few hours a day, pretty awesome
  12. silver lining---job security, they can't afford to lose you now
  13. Dunno if we could tak on a cap dump without moving another roster player, i think the Sabres only have something like $1.3M in space right now
  14. punting is word that needs to be used more outside of football, i like 'sacked' as well. my wife and i watch the Premiere League and i loved it the first time i heard that a manager was 'sacked' for the team being garbage
  15. Yeah, it was a shame that Moulson didn't work out, great person, but the game moved on from him unfortunately.
  16. There is obviously a lot of talk about RoR here and rightfully so. Something occured to me just now after reading all these posts. I'd like to share a story, I will try to keep it as short as i can. Bear with me, i do have a point and it's about RoR. In Eichel's rookie year, I had just got stationed in Texas about 4 hours away from Dallas. I met 2 other Sabres fans that were also stationed there with me. That year the Sabres were scheduled to play in Dallas just before T-giving on a Saturday night so we decided to get tickets and make a weekend out of it. Remembering that Moulson was in charge of the "tickets for the troops" program, i reached out to him on Twitter, told him that 3 Buffalo guys stationed in TX would be at the game and that we were hoping to get some auto-graphs. He messaged me back a day or two later and asked for our names and if we needed tix. I gave him our names but told him we had tickets. Fast forward to game day, we spent the day in Dallas (tons of Sabres fans around) Moulson messages me again and asked if we got our VIP passes yet, and i didn't know what he was talking about, so he told me to go to will call and give them my name, turns out Moulson got us passes to come down to the VIP area just outside the locker room for after the game! Sabres lost 3-0, but we still had fun. We head down to the locker room area and while we are waiting, these 3 super hot girls started making fun of us for our zubaz pants, my santa sabres hat etc. Moulson comes out and chats with us, super cool guy, sad he didn't work out for us. I got pictures with Kane, Eichel, Reinhart, Risto and got a hat auto-graphed as well. So Moulson spends the whole time chatting with us and all that, then says hey I have to head to the bus, thanks for your service and wish we couldve won for you guys. So the team heads to the bus and we leave, as we come around the side of the arena to find a place to drink, we see all the players together walking to the bus except for RoR, who's not with the team, he's on the other end of the block getting into a limo with the same 3 hot girls that were making fun of us earlier. At the time we laughed and that he was the man, but, looking at it a different way, it's almost like he only cared about himself and didn't want to be with the team after a tough loss. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but, that could speak to RoR's character a bit.
  17. I am pretty jealous right now that it's snowing by you. sometimes i miss having a lot of snow. I haven't lived in the snow belt in almost 15 years and everytime i see that there is a storm, i sort of miss being hunkered down in the house, watching movies and drinking bourbon. It snowed on and off here for about 4 hours yesterday but nothing stuck and it doesn't even look like it snowed. decided to work a half day today and can't wait to leave. I have a big meeting at noon, but afterwards, I'm out. Then I am only working two days next week and then a 5 day weekend off with family that i haven't seen in a while.
  18. i watched the Jets-Caps game the other night, not so thrilled about the all around team speed that the Jets have against our sloth toed bottom 6, especially with Berglund back in the lineup. this will be a very tough one
  19. Did anyone watch the Jets last night? they're pretty fast paced and very good. IMO, the Sabres need a huge effort and everyone will need to be on their A game for it to be respectable. We can't have a meh game like against TB and expect to win.
  20. it's weird how a win can still get some scrutiny here. it's seems like only a win that was a complete game, like a 4-1 win where the Sabres dominated the play for the full 60 minutes doesn't get picked apart. I'll concede that TB outplayed them last night for good portions of the game, but there's nothing wrong winning a game like that and i don't think its a cause for concern. Hutton played great, but not everyone was 'on' last night, yet we still won, I think that should be celebrated more than a dominating 4 or 5 goal win because it showed that even when they aren't perfect or play a complete game that they are still winning. i don't see why they can't keep up this pace either, young guys like Mittelstadt and Erod or going to get better and better, especially CM. Some of the really good players in Roc are going to get some chances to shine in Buffalo. The fact that we can say that Larsson has been serviceable if not, pretty good at his job this year is encouraging. the team is buying in and i have a feeling that we haven't seen the best of them yet and we will soon. there are shades of 2006
  21. yeah, he's probably AAAA right now, I don't see how he'd screw things up in ROC, i imagine that he'd help out with the winning
  22. Is he better served sitting in the press box watching and observing or playing top 6 minutes in Rochester? Tough call. IMO, i think he should be playing solid minutes in ROC right now, they're tearing it up, the winning and playing time could help out a lot.
