I’m cautiously optimistic regarding Tage. I think his start to the season shows that last season wasn’t a fluke. I’m very confident that he is a 30+ goal, 60+ point guy. Im sort of hesitant to proclaim him a 50-60 goal guy going forward. He certainly is lighting it up though, and it would be incredible if he did perform like a 1C going forward.

No. He isn’t Lindros. He won’t be Lindros. He is a really good player though. A no doubt top-6 C. He probably will keep getting a little better at faceoffs but he probably won’t ever be a guy you send out as a specialist to win a big draw. I think that he does impose his will as much as you can expect from a non-elite player.

It’s a good story. Round 1 went to Buffalo. Now Eichel wins Round 2. Just more storyline for the next time he comes to town.

That is scary. It doesn’t look like Maroon actually stepped down on Kane’s wrist though. Looked like more of a fly by slash. So hopefully he wasn’t cut too deeply with any long term damage.

Would be incredible if the Sabres got lottery luck and landed a top two pick, but even if they end up picking in the 10-20 range like I expect, they are still going to get one heck of a prospect.

2023 draft has a good number of big physically developed forwards, so I would be at all surprised if in addition to Bedard/Fantilli, 2-3 other forwards play in the NHL next season.

I’m excited for this. I’m happy to have the traditional look as the standard outfits, but I like the black/red too. I’m happy to see different sweaters for ~25% of the games each season. Black/red goathead, blue/gold goathead, black/red butter knives, blue/gold butter knives, 50th anniversary; mix it up year to year. Just no yellow sweaters and no slugs please.

I actually second the meh. Matthews is a star offensive player. The tougher guys on his team should stand up for him. He should be able to cross check or slash a guy without having to then fight. In this particular case, I don’t think it was even necessary for the other TOR players to charge in to fight the guy like that. If they hadn’t, I don’t think it would have devolved into the situation it became. With that being said, I think Matthews certainly looked completely disinterested in having any part of that situation. He should have grabbed ahold of PHI #54 and just stood there with him. It was a bad look, but not egregious. Now, if Matthews is doing this every week, I could see it wearing a bit thin with his teammates.

Are we where yet? Where is there? Are the Sabres better than the team that started last season? Without a doubt. Are the Sabres good enough to make the playoffs? Maybe. Are the Sabres good enough to contend for a Stanley Cup? Almost definitely not, and because of that I think the overall answer to your question has to be no. They are not “there”. They have not arrived at a destination. They are still in the early stages of a long journey that they are traveling together.
