This is fair. His rookie season, he was good (extremely good for an 18 yr old D). Year two he struggled early and then really came on and played very well the rest of the season, improving statistically from year one. Now in year 3 he has been pretty bad. Im much less optimistic on him right now than I was before the season. However, I also am trying to keep in mind that he is 20 and the whole team has struggled, so I don’t want to make any definitive declarations off of these just 13 games. Trending down right now though.

Yeah, that’s the reason he wanted it in the first place. It’s a couple years later now, and if he isn’t enjoying himself maybe he changes his mind. Wouldn’t count on it though.

I feel ok. I’m not angry. Do I seem angry? I was just making a small point that draft position isn’t relevant in evaluating how good a player is. I only brought it up because someone specifically mentioned it as a criteria in evaluating whether Olofsson or Reinhart was better. You disagree? You agree? Don’t care? Wish I hadn’t brought it up? Sorry. You’re right. Olofsson is better than Reinhart because Olofsson was a 7th round pick and Reinhart was picked 2nd overall. Makes sense.

My point was, their expectations are not relevant in evaluating which is better. Also, I didn’t say that I think Reinhart is better, so I don’t know why you are trying to ram that down my throat.

How do you bake their expected career projections into an assessment of how good they are right now. Seems like two completely different things?

You mean the GM’s and team presidents? I would think that decisions to buy out players would always be heavily scrutinized by ownership before being approved. I would say it’s probably, generally an GM proposal and an ownership decision.

Do the owners really even want one though? It equates to more money spent on their end. I find it hard to believe that the demand for one is high coming from the owners right now.

Signing a UFA who was previously on Buffalo is not a substitute for using an expansion draft pick. They could sign Hall, and Ullmark, and draft Borgen. Am I wrong?

Players I actually like on this team: Olofsson, Reinhart, Lazar, Cozens, McCabe, Jokiharju, Ullmark Eichel I like ok, I want to like him more, but I’m a little lukewarm. Same for Risto and Dahlin. I just feel like this team has no identity. I’m getting close to the point where I want the team to tear it up and start again with the #1 priority of being an intense, 2-way, hardworking team in mind. The team just feels mentally and emotionally weak, with no confidence.
