Advanced Analytics says this team might be VERY good
Curt replied to matter2003's topic in The Aud Club
Ok. That’s fine. Maybe he keeps getting better. That doesn’t change the fact that he simply has not proven himself to be the level of player that you should feel super comfortable putting out there in 75% of games. -

Good post. I don’t think people realize how much goalie performance is system dependent. Not just the quality of the players in front of them, but the actual system they play and what type of plays that system requires the goalie to make. -

Yeah, the money issue very well may case them to look elsewhere. I don’t believe that there needs to be a clear and definite label of a #1 goalie who gets heavy duty usage and backup goalie who gets light usage. I think teams should try to split starts more evenly. And I certainly don’t think that Ullmark has shown that he is someone a team should be comfortable with as a high usage #1 goalie. -

Depends on the deal. Sabres can only afford to take on so much. They don’t have that much room. -
How many wins better that Ullmark do you think Fleury is, over the remaining games?
-
5 wins at least? In how many games? 20? Seems dubious unless there is a lengthy Ullmark absence.

Fleury may be just a slight upgrade. He’s better than Hutton, but probably not any better than Ullmark. Also, he should be almost free. I don’t think you need to give up so much for him. -
Dylan Cozens - What will his impact be this season?
Curt replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Quinn has not played. I would a little surprised if he does. Cozens has very been good for a rookie. No/few glaring mistakes, and occasional high quality plays. He looks like he belongs. Because this is a shorter season, it’s not 9 games, it’s 6 this year. Cozens is at 6 right now, his next game will put him over. He is staying up. -
Randy Sexton was the AHL GM, not Greeley.

Oh wow, NY sports fan site thinks that great player X wants to (I mean, come on, of course, it’s NY) and will play for NY sports team. This is a shocking revelation. Seriously, this is a constant with NY metro sports teams. They think every great player secretly wants to play for their team and they expect that their team will get that player, because it’s NY. That article is crap writing with zero new information. Just recycled hopes and dreams from the past two years, reformatted for another round of clicks.

Like anything else, it all depends on the deal. He certainly has no value on that contract, and there would need to be more to the deal for Buffalo to fit him under the cap. Yes, because neither of us are clairvoyant, he may or may not be the difference for Buffalo. However, in my eyes, he is without a doubt better than Hutton, and almost as good as Ullmark. Roughly an average NHL goalie. With regards to waiting for something better, it could work out or it could be a total disaster. If Hutton blows 3-4 for Buffalo while they are waiting for a better deal, then it’s probably already too late.
-
Would you pay him $6M? Lol. That’s what his actual salary will be. He is not great, and he is not worth his salary, but he is decent. What if he is the difference between Buffalo making the playoffs or not making the playoffs? What is that worth? I think he would be almost free to acquire.

Agreed. I don’t see anyone excited by the Sabres season so far. -
I do. He’s better than Hutton/Tokarski. I think he could add 2-5 wins.
-
Could you elaborate on this court order? I’m interested.

To you it makes sense to give two games off against Washington on Friday and Sunday, but doesn’t make sense to give him just the Sunday game off? Why do you think he needs two games off instead of one? -

Why two games instead of one? I’m going to assume that it was scheduled ahead of time. Ralph has already said that they would be rotating in/out some guys in the bottom 6 for rest, didn’t he? I don’t know why they would just sit random players unless it was planned. It doesn’t look like a benching for poor play. -

I guess I just can’t find the right words to engage with you. (one, complain). *shrug* I didn’t say that the idea of Cozens getting on a role was illogical or anything. It’s a viewpoint that I can understand. I just wanted to present my viewpoint that if they had a plan laid out that they thought was best for him, they should stick to that instead of changing it because he scored a goal. And, if I’m understanding you correctly, by saying that you would still have an issue with Cozens having today off even if he hadn’t scored a goal, you are saying that you disagree with the idea of giving him the day off on principle, and it’s not really about the fact he scored last game. Correct me if I’m wrong. -

Sorry. Maybe this is more to your liking? If they set out a plan for Cozens that they feel is best for him, should they change it because he has been doing pretty well and scored a goal? Did that one goal change things? Seems to me that if you would be ok with this if he hadn’t scored a goal, that you should be ok with it now even though he did. If he hadn’t scored a goal, would you be complaining about this @Thorny? -
I don’t think that this tweet is over the top suggestive. It doesn’t say anything definitive. It says what it says.

If this is true, then it’s something that he needs to work through. If he is going to be a great player, he needs to be able to play a strong game in his own zone. You can’t blame Krueger for Dahlin’s execution mistakes.
-
Lol, ok. He had rough patches his first year too. You are right, in comparison to Mitts, there is no comparison. Something is up with Dahlin, but I’m sure he’ll come around.

I’ll be watching the Sabres. Don’t know if I’ll watch any football at all. Not everyone likes football and not every Sabres fan is from Buffalo. -
The point of this particular tweet? To inform people that the Sabres are not only in search of a goalie, but that they progressed to a negotiation type phase. That’s it. So basically are you are upset that he is a tease, or do you think he is full of BS and fabricating things?
