I like Carrier but lets not make him a lot better than he is just because he's left unprotected vs Ennis. Ennis injuries and contract the only thing that made me think he would be exposed rather than Carrier.

You're right! I definitely don't agree.

Carrier over Ennis the only mild surprise. A healthy Ennis I can understand. Carrier just doesn't have the offense Ennis has but I still would have picked him and exposed Ennis.

Okay, I was under the impression Vegas had to select three goaltenders.

Forgot that. Vegas has to take three goaltenders. Assuming Fluery is one then the question is would Ullmark be more attractive than all the rest of exposed goaltenders? There's a lot there to choose from. The problem is he will be maybe the most attractive of our teams exposed players and they have to take someone from each team.

I think of those I'd be inclined to protect Carrier.

Vegas I assume will take Flury from Pittsburgh. Not sure they would take Ullmark if he's exposed. If Sabres go the 7-3-1 format then it could be Risto, McCabe, and Beaulieu are protected. Seven forwards protected would be ROR,Kane,Okposo,Foligno,Girgensons,Rienhart,?. That exposes both Moulson and Bogo. Otherwise you expose the guy we picked up and protect Bogo. That means we paid a third rounder to protect Bogo and I don't see that unless Vegas wouldn't take that pick not to take him. I may have something mixed up here.

Looks like the wheeling and dealing before expansion is under most expectations. We will see what happens leading up to the draft but my suspicion is it won't be as much as speculated.

Peters and Rivet seem to be a bit behind times. Rivet at least was a very good player.

Do we think Petersen is better than Ullmark? Just asking.

I don't want Kane and his contract. Great hockey player in the time he's been in the league but he's also a questionable character as some think our Kane is.

I'm with those who don't want to trade Rienhart. Kane I would trade only if he's not signing here and then only for a young top four defenseman or high pick and top prospect.

I know we seem heavily slanted in support of Housley but I don't get the disdain for Tocchet some seem to have. I trust management to make the decision. As a fan I'm much less in a position to sort out all that goes into a decision than management is. Also the only negativity I've heard on Tocchet is Paul Hamilton and on this board. Hockey writers that I've read seem to think he would be a very good choice. He's,it would seem, well respected league wide.

I'm okay with either but would like Housley.

Like Housley, Tocchet is okay if that's the choice. After some research I have no problem with him but prefer Housley for our defensemen.

Maybe we wait for another week or ten days and stop with this is he or is he not a top candidate.

There is too much truth here to totally ignore plus he, I believe, will no want to sign here particularly before testing free agency. I'm not for giving him away but I'm going to seriously consider offers.

Agree but the key word is "if".

Do you really think General managers don't know he's one year from free agency? Come on. He's at this point one year away which makes him a possible one year rental which makes him of less value in a possible trade without some assurance that he will sign a new deal with any team trading for him.

This is the dilemma. I have a feeling Kane may want to test free agency. This not only means losing him for nothing but also decreases his trade value. Other teams won't give up much for a one year rental so they may want a new deal in place before trading for him. If he's bent on free agency then we're in a tough place.

Everything you read about the guy makes him look more and more like a top candidate.

Not sure I'd say Housley is more experienced. Frankly I'm good if it's Tocchet but I like Boughner number one then Housley or Tocchet next of the names I've heard.
