  1. SMJ. I understand your position but don't have the same believe as you. Thomas Jefferson, to me, is saying that in order to fully comprehend Christianity one must search out all of Jesus's teachings, and live by his teachings. TJ believes in God, believes in Jesus as Jesus asked him to believe. Those where Thomas Jefferson's believes as he thought Jesus was trying to teach to him. Not eating meat on Fridays during lent is what I take as to what TJ may see as a corruption of Christianity. I always try and take the sum of Jesus's teaching and the moral to which he is trying to get us to see. "Whoever acknowledges me before men,32 I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.33 34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn " 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law34-- 36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.'e35 37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;36 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.37 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.38 40 "He who receives you receives me,39 and he who receives me receives the one who sent me.40 41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."41 I see a much different moral teaching to this than the one you are trying to describe to me. The question I ask myself in trying to answer your last paragraph is: Would Jesus not heap reward onto a person that believes in God, believes Jesus is a man doing Gods work teaching his word, and then lives by Jesus's teachings? I read the above from Mathew's 2-42 and see Thomas Jefferson viewing Jesus as a prophet and plan on meeting Thomas Jefferson one day in the ever after.
  2. Cool SS people actually watch LLWS. With the complete lack of posts for it I thought it was banned topic.
  3. A town of 386 people field a team of young boys that make it to the LLWS championship game. They played David to the world of Goliaths in LL baseball. No same. Should be a party in every small town across the world that such an event can even take place no matter where you're from. There was a star in LL baseball that played for the Sabres. Any one venture to guess?
  4. Excellent 79 thank you for that. this one struck a cord with me... 1803 April 21. (Jefferson to Benjamin Rush). "To the corruptions of Christianity I am indeed, opposed; but not to the genuine precepts of Jesus himself. I am a Christian, in the only sense in which he wished any one to be; sincerely attached to his doctrines, in preference to all others; ascribing to himself every human excellence; and believing he never claimed any other."10
  5. I with you. If Franson is on the ice enough to get us 5 points in the standings our top 4 are a lot worse than we are assuming right now.
  6. Not knowing the long snapper's name is a very good thing. The very utterance of his name brings bad luck. You have jinxed this team. I now blame immerman for all injuries and poor quarterback plan for the 2015 season. In order to release the jinx you have placed upon the Bills I believe you need a voodoo doll of Doug Flutie and some long pins. Then immerman you must chant "Rob Johnson was not better" "Rob Johnson was not better" While inserting the pins.
  7. That is a great memory to have with your mom and sister! 14 year old you was very edgy!
  8. Now its starting to come back!
  9. Can we talk LLWS in this thread ?
  10. You are right that the movie was edgy but it was still just a movie, make believe. It was the audience interaction that made me feel like I was doing something radical tinged with immoral. It may seem silly to many, but at the time it was a big thing and going was definitely not part of the normal life of a teenager, at least not one from western NY. Neo it has to make you smile the same as I do to know what wild childs we once where are.
  11. That clip NS reminded me of the mid eighties when it was an interactive movie going event. The first time I saw it was an eye opener, not so much the movie but the audience participation. The second time we where prepared. If you wanted to participate one needed a squirt gun, popcorn, and the willingness to dance and act out scenes at the front of the theatre. I'm sure I'm forgetting a whole lot 30 years later, but I do remember having a lot of fun!
  12. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/report--ik-enemkpali--seeking-sex--once-punched-man-he-thought-was-woman-132649952.html Not sure if this is any where else but a fun article to read.
  13. Wild that wasn't my take at all on the posts you quoted. I took it as a little venting after the all men are rapists stance that was on here. You had an out standing post that appeared to me to be more centrist and it seemed you tried to encapsulate a wide variety of groups and their thoughts on a subject.
  14. No way man, I got thicker skin than you My Dad can beat up your Dad Your post is just silly :P
  15. This board is almost one big disagreement with each other all the time, no problems with that either. It's the term silly that I found demeaning. To me its a nice way of saying stupid. If he had said I think your totally wrong, no problem. But calling your post silly, is the same to me as saying it was stupid. Well at least from my childhood memories. We where never allowed to use the word stupid so it got interchanged with silly. Maybe I'm just being silly.
  16. That is hilarious! I just thought you had a dark sense of humor or liked to frighten small children for no reason. Now I know it's Wildcard with the wicked mind. Nfreeman, I read Hoss's post as demining toward Egg and there was no reason for it. Not enough to cause a suspension for that instance. But, if you have asked politely several times to refrain from doing it, then you where forced to make a decision. If Hoss does not like it, he should not put you in that position.
  17. If very well may be reconditioned on Ebay and works like new with a warranty for under $50.00
  18. I shopped E-Bay. Have a great old plan but if I go to Verizon and want a new phone they "get" you by saying "in order to get that phone at our great price you need to sign up for this plan..." which is always more expensive than the plan I have now. Follow NS's lead and find a carrier that will offer you a voice/text plan only, then find a phone on E-Bay that will work on that carrier's system. My phones (LG G 3)are 1 generation older than what is currently on the floors at Verizon stores. They are reconditioned and look as new when the arrived and have worked great plus the seller offered an exchange program if the phone didn't work with free shipping. You can get a 2 generation old reconditioned phone that will appear as new for $75.00, will take great pictures and easy to use for texting off of Ebay. The Motorola Droid Razor comes to mind. Just so you know while shopping the SIM card is free at the store that you get your plan from.
  19. I wont say I was afraid to ask, but I assumed every one knew what (PBUH) meant and I was to lazy to google or re-read the thread and embarrassed to ask. I must say by this point in my life one would think I would have learned to ask and not assume, it all makes so much more sense now...
  20. Dam it! I knew it was you! Every time the phone rings it's an "unavailable" on the caller ID but a NJ exchange. I promise I'll send my yearly dues in next week!
  21. Thank you NS for your response, you could show no disrespect towards me by providing me knowledge. You showed nothing but respect by responding as truthful and articulate as you did.
  22. I would hope texting person would stick around. Just blame stupidity and the sun in your eyes and let the insurance settle up. No jail or fine. If you're drunk you run like hell and hope you sober up before the cops find you is the only logically scenario for me. Please don't tell me texters are leaving the seen of accidents because they are texting while driving.
  23. I know there's a bit of tongue and cheek in there but , yah, I was thinking a drunkin idiot also.
  24. I am ignorant as to why smj would say that and why its disrespectful. So a couple of questions. Is there a Christian theory or book that tries to prove the date the Qur'an was written? Does the Qur'an as a Muslim believes' have a very specific date as to when it was written? My assumption was that the Qur'an's origin pre dates the time of Jesus. That it must have been revised or translated to multiple languages through out the years seems logical to me, but it's origin has to be some time BC. A little further knowledge would be appreciated.
  25. I agree to that view also. But in my personal view a person that has the will to commit suicide as the only viable choice to end their pain is strong willed. If they saw a way to end the pain and it was a much easier course to take, I assume that would be the path they chose. I'm not saying they are of strong character or at all bringing in a human value system into it. My thought was more simplistic. Being strong willed, one of the many traits that make up a person, is not seen by me as being the most lacking of traits in their character. Suicide is very complex and emotional topic. I tried to in one sentence claim that suicidal people are not weak, or weak minded. A chemical imbalance, depression, a unreasonable fear of something are reasons I would be easily convinced of as to why someone would try. I just felt compelled not to let hang that suicide is for the weak as a way out, and I'm sure the post I was commenting on ever even meant to implied that. A total derail of a thread by me. Sorry, not intended.
