Just want to take a break from Jack's back pressure discussion. This thread was started because of Foligno and Ennis comments. Were they part of the problem? They hadn't won anything except for some World Junior teams. Is Scandella a leader of our turning point, coming from a "winning" culture? He not a #1 minute muncher but he's a good 2-3 D-man who may have some leadership skills. JBot will have to create a culture here, it will take time, you can't drop a Messier into that room and say "fixed". Even Messier sucked in Vancouver.

Boudreau is an older coach, and he sounds rough around the edges. Maybe he does kick garbage cans and doesn't coddle his players. In this day and age, the old school approach is not supposed to work because these players have been handled with kid gloves. They can be coach killers because they make 10 times what the coach does, the owner has way more invested in the players. I would be inclined to go old school, but that's because I am old.

My concern is his health. He plays hard and is having a career year. His game has caused him to miss a lot of games, every season. What do we do if he has a season ending injury before the trade deadline? I know you can't live your life in this "what if " mode but I worry we will lose him for nothing. I don't think he signs here even if we match the contract.

Wow, a lot of people on this board wanted the C sewn on his chest 20 games ago. I'm not impressed with his season either. I think someone needs to kick him in the butt and tell him he needs to put this team on his back once in a while and win a game. Pouting doesn't cut it.

I don't think he's a legitimate prospect. Sometimes there may be handshake deals in the off season to give a guy one game in the show if he signs.

JBot at the GM's meeting, wonder if Kane's name comes up? He may get an early feel for the market. I think if he doesn't want to sign him, he needs to move him before the deadline. There is an elevated risk of an injury, given Kane's history, the longer he waits. An earlier move can also lead to a hockey trade instead of a deadline dump for draft picks. A lot of teams are tight to the cap, making a trade difficult, but a willing partner can find a way. As I said, the key is if there is interest in an extension in Buffalo or a desire to hit the bright lights of UFA status.
