The Avs are an example of a one year reversal. They've already surpassed last season's point total and are in the hunt for a playoff spot, just a few points behind, with games in hand. We've got nowhere to go but up.

Even at the WJHC he was a perimeter player. He didn't hunt the puck down or seem to work hard. No engagement. Like I tell my son, do you want to watch things happen or make them happen.

I've been a Sabres fan since '75 so I'm not changing. If they win in my lifetime it will be that much sweeter. I'll welcome the bandwagon jumpers aboard but make them aware of their status. I watch a lot of hockey and my son joins me for the occasional non-Sabres game. He always asks who I'm cheering for, so I end up picking some teams. I kind of have some secondary teams but they do not approach my affection for the Sabres. I have purchased other teams swag over the years, because I have often had non Sabres players as my favourites. For example, Joe Sakic was my favourite player for the length of his career so I had a Nordiques jersey and some Avalanche stuff. Most of my family are Habs fans and I do not regret "finding" my own team as a young man and sticking with them through thick and thin. I missed out on many Cups but feel a sense of independence.

Keep it up Matty, maybe someone takes a chance on him for playoff depth. Retain some salary and take a 7th round pick.

The other angle from the GM's perspectitive may be to make picks for "his" team, not stockpile picks for his successor. GM's have more job security than coaches, but they have an expiry date as well.

Show the rest of them that you can go up and have an impact.

Kane's stats in his few years here may add up to more than all those Jets put together.

I agree that this was a big component of the trade. McEichel was in the bag. Let's see what Kane's return is before giving the Jets a victory.

I watched the game and Ullmark's play gave me a feeling of confidence that I haven't felt in a long time. It just felt he was going to win. I like Lehner but I always have a sense of dread. It's a gut feeling but it's all I've got right now. I think he's our goalie next year. His interview was also very good.

Sakic took a year but he got his demand for Duchene.

Trade him before he gets hurt. First team to meet JBot's price gives him the time until the next Sabres game to find someone else to ante up. Git'er done!

That has been my biggest fear for a while now, his annual injury happens at the trade deadline. It would suck even more if it was done by a teammate.

I hope this team stays together and goes on a deep playoff run. I'm still holding out hope for Nylander to find the next gear and step up. I did not find enough evidence of this at the WJHC. He had a few moments and put up decent stats but wasn't the go to guy in the crunch.

I like Zadina more than Tkachuk at this point. He skates and stickhandles better. I like gritty scoring forwards but the Tkachuk clan is more Sean Avery than Wendel Clark.

He impressed me at this tournament. He was just a name on a list until I watched him in all of his games. Nice shot, similar to Hoffman on the off wing. Nice moves, dangled a few D- men and was surprisingly physical. Nice all round game for an 18 year old.

These linemen would not be of much use on the football field. There are a few huge lads but probably don't move as well as the Bills require.

Wicked stuff! Ontario has sent dozens of linemen to the Maritimes to help with power restoration. We just have -40 wind chills at the moment, wood stove getting lots of love.

Hard to dispute the numbers but I think at some point, (playoffs?), the land of misfit toys comes back to earth.

It doesn't look like he is fixated on one number, he will choose one to make his own. Wearing #11 in Buffalo and playing like he can is a cool move.

We've already tried bringing in an ex captain of the Habs. Patches is a good player, but the downside of his career is in the near future.
