  1. Not trying to convince you to come off of your hill but Orr was the McDavid of his era with the way he could skate and handle the puck at top speed. He was way more skilled than the rest of the league, never mind other Dmen. Lidstrom’s game was way more subtle, but he controlled the flow in both directions. I’ll go with Orr because he could have won 5 more Norris trophies with some good health.
  2. Yeah, I listened to this when it came out. I’m an overweight 58 year old and my waist size is 36”. He is thick.
  3. I want this guy to explode as well. He just seems to be on the edge of a breakout. I want to see a few Dahlin assists. Get the PP going again.
  4. I think an eye opener for managers has been how few Presidents Trophy winners go on to win the Stanley Cup. Teams that finish first have probably expended extra energy to claim that title and may not have another gear for the playoffs. Tampa is a recent example of comfortably getting into the playoffs and grinding out deep runs.
  5. Canes are 6-0-1 in their second games of back to back games. This is an impressive stat and they are a good team. The crack I find in this number is that 6 of those 7 games were at home. They played extra time last night and had to travel, the Sabres young legs need to take advantage of this. Let’s go Buffalo!
  6. Watched DG’s post practice interview, he uses the phrase “earn it” a few times.
  7. Wow, you guys just came up with a new way to save cap space, I like it. An up front big “bonus” to lower the AAV on the next deal. The other thing I like is that not many other teams could do that right now. Watching all of the cap “geniuses” squirm would be great.
  8. That is what I like about NHL playoffs and tournaments like the World Juniors, there is closer to 100% effort, all of the time. March Madness is similar too, I don’t watch it anymore, but I preferred it to the NBA for that reason.
  9. I haven’t watched any of their games, just some of his highlights. They are a team going for it this year. They have 11 guys from ‘03 and their maximum 3 from ‘02. Only 3 of those 14 can play next year. Even though he has been on that team for parts of 3 years he is one of the young guys. I imagine they roll 4 lines due to talent and not needing to shorten their bench. I don’t see TOI stats but my guess is he would play17-19 minutes a night. Bedard is all Regina has so he would probably play 20-22 minutes. Weak teams with star forwards would be similar. My take is his numbers are secondary. He is already drafted and the team can go all the way, so Patrick would want him playing the right way. The Sabres probably have a checklist that they gave him and I would guess defensive play, getting stronger and other details are what they would like to see.
  10. That space can wait for a C.
  11. No, I think Coles notes is the Canadian version. People use to buy them at bookstores if they didn’t want to read the entire book.
  12. Blue Jackets made a good push at the end and had the Caps A la mode. Let’s go Cbus!
  13. Yes, they never had a true 1C to match up with other teams. William Karlsson and Chandler Stephenson weren’t enough in their eyes.
  14. Interesting that 3 of the 4 played for the Kootenay/Winnipeg Ice. Only Krebs and Savoie have played for James Patrick.
  15. Guy Lafleur should be fairly high on that list. 5 Stanley Cups 3 Art Ross trophies 2 Hart trophies 1 Conn Smythe trophy.
  16. When I watched Quinn in the OHL he was a shooter first and foremost. He has added some great layers to his skill set. He can shoot like VO, but stick handles almost as well as TNT. He works defensively, reminding me of Mark Stone. His passing is good too. This kid just needs more strength. I think his numbers will get much better to where they have another point a game player on this roster.
  17. Awesome, he’s my favourite player, and this makes me like him even more. Opening up like this shows a bit more of his personality and the connection he and his teammates want to create with the fans. My next sweater will be a 26.
  18. Brind’Amour is a smart coach, he exposed some flaws for all to see. The Bruins are showing cracks, I think they were playing way above their abilities. I had them pegged to be battling the Caps and Pens in the geezer category. Their start has been impressive. I’ll pull for the Bruins vs the Leafs, that’s it.
  19. Great hockey player. Not so great a person. He was not exactly embraced by the NHL, despite his accomplishments. The body language between him and Brett was very cold. I met Bobby Jr. almost 40 years ago, he didn’t want to talk about his dad.
  20. I have a feeling the Sabres have had a lot of views of Dragicevic. He plays on the same team as Suchanek.
  21. Interesting numbers and all 1st rounders. Savoie plays like Cozens but is built like Krebs. Unless he really bulks up this summer he will have a hard time in the NHL. I think he gets his 9 games and there will be some tough decisions to make.
  22. I can’t think of anyone either. Brad Lambert has Finnish/Canadian roots and chose to play in Finland and moved to the AHL in D+1. He has since been assigned to the WHL. Puuljujarvi went back to Finland after an NHL stint to try and regain his confidence. He was from there though. It would be interesting if Savoie took this course of action. He would make some money instead of riding CHL buses.
  23. The only loophole I know of is a 5 game conditioning stint in the AHL, like the Kraken did with Shane Wright this year. Savoie could be loaned to the Canadian World Junior team for December.
