  1. Yep. Actually surprised Gretzky is fairly low on this list: https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/which-player-has-the-most-game-winning-goals-in-nhl-history To compare, here is list of ENG leaders. You don’t have to search long to see Gretzky’s name. https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask?q=nhl+empty+net+goals+leaders+all-time
  2. Zucker is streaky. When he’s on, he’s on. As for Norris, would love for KA to explain if he knew of this mystery injury prior to trading for him. And if not, why it wasn’t disclosed at the physical. I like the concept of Greenway, but I don’t think we should’ve signed him. His worst ability, which is on display very often, is availability. Dude is constantly injured.
  3. Your right. My bad. Was thinking of Inkman.
  4. The Sabres are winning right now. You argued in another thread Novikov getting called up shouldn’t displace a roster spot on defense, which I agree with. It would be the epitome of Sabres hockey of the last 14 years for an AHL call-up to displace someone in the middle 6. Östlund is very likely better than anyone on our 4th line. If he want to move up the lines, he can earn it.
  5. I see him more of a luxury or lotto pick at this point. I could see him getting picked in the later half of 1st round by a perennial playoff team. Or maybe 2nd round.
  6. I approve. He has earned this. It should be a message sent to all players. You do well, you get rewarded.
  7. Ummmm, he has had discussions with a different GM about a player under contract. I get the agent did not mention JJP directly and I don’t know if this quote was taken out of context, but if said during the discussion of JJP, it’s implied he’s talking about him.
  8. The Agent wouldn’t comment on the situation out of respect tor the Sabres and the process, then he goes ahead and provides an inflammatory comment. By the way, isn’t this tampering? Is that a thing tolerated in the NHL?
  9. There’s plenty of teams (approx 50%) with young players that spend to the cap. There’s really no lasting costs to negotiating a contract with one of these player. It’s not a tangible expense outside of possibly being a waste of an effort. You put in an offer sheet for 2 players, you’re bound to get one. In this case, they hit the jackpot and got both. As Armstrong put it, even if his mother was GM of Edmonton, he still would’ve done it. Why? Because he’s not afraid to make his team better. https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/cap/_/year/2024/sort/cap_maximum_space2
  10. The dude is a young goalie. No way he shoulders the load for the Sabres next year unless the Sabres get serious on adding a couple veteran defensive defensemen. That said, I don’t think he shoulders be in Buffalo if he is not playing the majority of games. He needs to play. Unfortunately, we’ll probably be stuck with UPL again, but we need a vet who is not >35 to compete with him. If the Caps can get Logan Thompson for a couple 3rd rounders, we should be able to get something comparable. But I won’t hold my breath.
  11. Their GM stuck out his nuts big time with the offer sheets and it has worked out handsomely for them. I expect this will open the flood gates of OSs.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting GM, especially given it’s doubtful KA will be fired. His value is more in guiding KA not to do stupid things.

I think Ruff should be kicked upstairs. He may not be panning out as a HC right now, but he knows what it takes to win in the NHL. He has good vision and I trust his personnel moves. He’s probably the most experienced person in the organization right now.
  14. The problem with the Sabres is the season just isn’t long enough. Make it a month longer and we’d be in the playoffs.
  15. Ok. Probably an oversimplification. I don’t know the schedules of each player during the offseason. But, I do know that if you have an injury late in the season, you should be making every effort to rehab during the summer. I don’t know Quinn’s schedule either, but how this season has played out, it’s apparent he really enjoyed his summer break. Ruff’s comments would support this. And I don’t know if I blame Quinn for this either. It’s the team’s responsibility to have these players ready to start playing in the fall. It’s obvious these kids need babysitting and are not acting like professionals yet. Hindsight is 20/20, but I would’ve sat his ass until he was ready to go.
  16. There appears to be a major conditioning/training issue on this team. It seems like the majority of the team spends the summer months on the beach instead of training for the coming season. And why exactly did the Sabres discover something was wrong with Quinn upon landing in Prague? This should have been an issue identified last season and he should’ve been spending major time during the summer trying to overcome it. It’s not like they were busy in the playoffs. And if he wasn’t ready yet, he should’ve been sitting until he was. He should not have picked the regular season to rehab.
  17. I would stay clear of a 6’5” 18 year-old who already has back problems. The injury he has is not an acute injury. It wasn’t just bad luck or getting hit too hard in the wrong way. It’s a stress fracture due to ongoing wear-and-tear. So, aside from not playing hockey, what exactly can he do to avoid such injury?
  18. Next year, can we tell them they’ve been eliminated over Thanksgiving?
  19. It’s sad, but it’s what we need right now. We need defensemen to that can play, in the very least, average defense. Have we had average defense all year, we may have been battling for a playoff spot.
  20. What Jarmo talk?
  21. Does this mean we won The Trade?
  22. The question becomes, is McLeod good enough to hold down the 2C position with the right wings?
  23. It’s interesting, the first line and top D pairing playing a fairly big chunk of the game. It’s far from an even distribution. So, the remainder of the lines and D pairings must be well below average (ie barely NHL players) to bring the team down the standings to the bottom 5 worse teams. Are they truly this bad? Imagine if the rest of the team was just plain average. We’d be fighting for a playoff spot.
  24. I just don’t get the disconnect. Dhalin anchors the 5th best pairing in the NHL, then why do we suck so much. We are 12th in GF/G. Offensively, we are not that bad. Do we really need a Dahlin for every defensive pair? Because our goaltending by GA/G and save% is garbage. We rank #1 in penalty minutes. Is this it? “Soft” teams like VGK, DAL, and EDM are at the bottom.
