There appears to be a major conditioning/training issue on this team. It seems like the majority of the team spends the summer months on the beach instead of training for the coming season. And why exactly did the Sabres discover something was wrong with Quinn upon landing in Prague? This should have been an issue identified last season and he should’ve been spending major time during the summer trying to overcome it. It’s not like they were busy in the playoffs. And if he wasn’t ready yet, he should’ve been sitting until he was. He should not have picked the regular season to rehab.

I would stay clear of a 6’5” 18 year-old who already has back problems. The injury he has is not an acute injury. It wasn’t just bad luck or getting hit too hard in the wrong way. It’s a stress fracture due to ongoing wear-and-tear. So, aside from not playing hockey, what exactly can he do to avoid such injury?

Next year, can we tell them they’ve been eliminated over Thanksgiving?

It’s sad, but it’s what we need right now. We need defensemen to that can play, in the very least, average defense. Have we had average defense all year, we may have been battling for a playoff spot.

It’s interesting, the first line and top D pairing playing a fairly big chunk of the game. It’s far from an even distribution. So, the remainder of the lines and D pairings must be well below average (ie barely NHL players) to bring the team down the standings to the bottom 5 worse teams. Are they truly this bad? Imagine if the rest of the team was just plain average. We’d be fighting for a playoff spot.

I just don’t get the disconnect. Dhalin anchors the 5th best pairing in the NHL, then why do we suck so much. We are 12th in GF/G. Offensively, we are not that bad. Do we really need a Dahlin for every defensive pair? Because our goaltending by GA/G and save% is garbage. We rank #1 in penalty minutes. Is this it? “Soft” teams like VGK, DAL, and EDM are at the bottom.

Honest question, given Adams vision of “not blocking”, do you really think they’ve tried? Edit: this may be recency bias with Adams as GM, but I still think we overvalue our players and JJP is not worth over $7M. Those picks gained (or our) could then be used to offer sheet a different player. Or traded for a player. No free agency needed.

If this is the offer sheet, I would let him go and sign a Zucker level vet to replace his production. I love JJP, but we have other players in the pipeline that could replace him and besides, we need to get more experienced players. Plus, JJP vs no JJP, we still suck.

Why should he try? If this is what he was thinking after signing a $49M contract 8 months prior, then it definitely was in the team’s best interest to ship him out. No one wass asking him to be a high-paid punching bag, but no one is asking that of Dahlin either.

It seems when we have older players on the Sabres, we fear they may be a liability. When similarly aged players are on SC contenders, they are considered an asset. The right players, regardless of age benefit teams.

Who would we want from them?

I’m fine with this. Would rather these players stick around longer. If we have a new FO in place, they just might stay longer. Otherwise, I’m really not interested in adding a couple more 2nd or 3rd rounders. I think our reality has become so warped that draft picks have become a valued currency instead of winning.

I would not move any players right now. However, I would fire Adams and Lindy right now. Make Karmanos the interim GM and Appert the interim HC. There’s no reason to sit on our hands. The final hire of the new GM (which may be Karmanos) should be completed by the end of the season and he should assess our pending FAs and hire a new coach. Appert should fired at this time.
