Taken to the cleaners for UPL? I think most on here would be satisfied with “future considerations” to get that contract off the books. Terry would be even happier.

Except he can’t get an 8 year contract. He can get a 6 year. All being equal, that would be $20M less than he could get from the Sabres.

People seem to automatically conclude Kevyn does horrible trades. The Mitts trade was fairly good, so was the McLeod and JJP (although both of these will have to play out over the next 5 years). The Eichel trade was the best we could get - but if we have to argue this one, the real argument should be what led up to it. The Sammy trade is interesting. I always thought he was about to break out, especially given how well he played his final season here. But, he wanted to leave and given this, I’m sure Adams got what he could. I bet there are 31 other teams who wish they bid higher. Point your fingers at them. The Norris trade? I don’t know how this will eventually turn out. We got damaged goods. Cozens seems to be doing OK in Ottawa (14 pts in 19 gp) but still is -10. At least they have a real player, I suppose. Either way, both have bad contracts.

The opposite can be said too. Greenway doesn’t add anything that Malenstyn can’t do, but for cheaper. And he can play more than half the season.

We can be cautiously optimistic though. The small sample size, regression, NHL now has a “book” on him, etc, can be said for every single goalie that has begun playing in the NHL. Sure, all these can happen, but none of them are specific to Ellis.

With Dahlin back and seemingly recharged, I’m actually looking forward to this one now. Not filled with existential dread.

I find it nuts (but probably not) that Arizona was a garbage team for awhile, they get a new owner/location and suddenly they are one of the better teams in the league. Is this just a cloud of a bad owner being lifted? Were they going to breakout anyway?

I would go in search for some teams doing it the right way who may want to accelerate their rebuild and trade some of their pots of gold (young players) for a proven vet. A team like ANA or SJ may do something like this. Otherwise, I agree, a proven playoff team probably won’t send you someone off their roster of equal value. I know this is spinning the wheels, but I don’t want him walking for nothing, nor do I want him to dictate where he goes.

But, shouldn’t this be expected? He’s 17 and most 17 year-olds are still in high school.

I think it’s depends on where that clot is and how long the player expects to be on anticoagulation. If this is to his pulmonary tree or threatening his brain, he’ll be on anticoagulants for an awful long time. Someone playing a contact sport at the professional level shouldn’t be on anticoagulants.

My therapist comment was only half in jest. This guy is going through a ton. I don’t think his lack of engagement this year is due to a lack of skill. He needs more help navigating his emotions. I hope he is getting the help he needs.

I think the level of incompetence is so high, that even an above average GM could help. I don’t think this team needs to be ripped down to the foundation. I think we are a few trades away from being competitive. I just don’t think KA will do it. Changes: 1) hire a good head coach = 5 more wins 2) Trade Power, dump Quinn and Greenway = 5 wins 3) add good (not even elite) players to replace them = 5 wins 4) move on from UPL = 5 wins

We are basically icing an AHL team at this point. What percent of the roster are we at for players who started the year in the AHL?

I fully support this as well. I also think what we are seeing/hearing may just be the tip of the iceberg.

Not trying to be an ass, but this is an unreasonable question. We obviously do. Lyons is playing great. Levi is playing excellent in Rochester and there is a logjam of talent behind him. A reasonable question would be, would Ellis be any worse than UPL? People want to think he’s a flash in the pan and no better than Houser lighting it up a few games, but he had better numbers than Levi last year in the AHL. We have many better options than UPL, who is a sub 0.900 goalie. We’ve seen enough.
