  1. The PLD trade was only done with the premise of a contract extension. There would’ve been no haul without that. So, it comes down to which teams have room (or it even makes sense) for a $8/9M extension for a goalie. There’s not many teams that fit that description. The Sabres don’t. There may be some garbage teams. More teams become open to a trade if you eliminate the costly extension, but that means getting significantly less in return for his rental. I don’t think they’re gonna get what they think they’re gonna get. Took the words out of my mouth.
  2. The Bryson addition by subtraction is huge. I’ll give a corollary argument. A not insignificant portion of last season was played with one of our top 4 injured and this coincided with a lot of lost games. These were the games Bryson was give top 4 minutes. Getting Clifton (and even Johnson) allow for this to never happen again. The result will be akin to getting a top 4 injury last year, but not having any drop off in play. That 8 game losing streak in November may never have happened. Last season the Sabres were 8-15-3 without Samuelsson.
  3. Well, considering Hanifan hasn’t been traded, it can equally be said the ask is unreasonable.
  4. Wait, Levi’s going back to college? OMG!
  5. This is what I’m saying. Don’t give the Jets much, but more importantly, don’t give Helle a contract either. Use him to ease Levi in for a year. Then bid him farewell for his tutelage.
  6. I thought of that, but at some point, it has to be tough pill to swallow for a player to be told that they can’t play until May, if at all. I guess they can have multiple players taking turns on the couch.
  7. And the hole is being dug deeper.
  8. Toronto is now $5M over the cap. Wonder how they’ll get out of this.
  9. Seriously, this guy doesn’t come across as a guy who has nearly double the amount of hits as the next Sabres defenseman. I like it.
  10. I’d be perfectly fine with sending the Jets some peanuts for Helle. I don’t need him to sign an extension. He just needs to win games (ie get us the playoffs) and guide Levi. Levi can take over once he leaves.
  11. If we are lucky he’ll get claimed.
  12. I believe it was already figured out there’s a simple solution to this; Bryson goes to Rochester
  13. For all of the reasons you mentioned, this is why he wouldn’t demand an $8M/year contract. But he was an integral part of our team late last year and would sign him for $5-6M/year. Who knows, next year may be the year he decides to pull it all together.
  14. We’re paying a bad team tax during FA, but we are keeping our own at significant discounts. I think the bad team tax will end after this coming season.
  15. I guess this is what KA meant when he said “the ball’s is his court” in reference to Jost. He low-balled him and wants him for less, which is KA’s MO for contracts. I agree with him.
  16. Plus Patches can sustain a “back injury” once Quinn comes back and we can Kucherov him for the playoffs.
  17. What’s Fischer’s game? Defensive forward/bastard to play against? Doesn’t look like he generates much offense.
  18. We love to be on the receiving ends of this nonsense for a change. Is his brother any good? Imagine having a McCarthy-squared line.
  19. Unless we get an offer we can’t refuse, we should just roll with Oloffson next season. He knows how to put the puck in the net. I don’t want to make another hole for a 2024 5th rounder or whatever.
  20. Heard it was on gym mats at One Bills Drive. Too soon?
  21. It’s a blow, but I don’t think it is in the way you present it. We can still improve by Cozens improving, JJP improving, and Mitts giving us a full 82 games. Krebs can improve as well. Remember, we were one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL last season and it wasn’t because Quinn put up 30-40 goals. He only potted 14. If we can tread water with what we have till January, while giving up less goals (the most important thing), I think we’ll be fine.
  22. I’m shaky on the AHL eligibility rules. Will Benson be able to play on the Amerks after this coming season?
  23. I think it depends on if the LHD Graves can play RHD. Outside of Dahlin, the myth that handedness doesn’t matter on the Sabres has been busted.
  24. Of course any late rounder doesn’t equate to Levi. It’s just the value we assign to draft pedigree is much different for goalies. That is, a goalie picked in the 5th probably has a better NHL chance than a forward picked in the 5th. You just don’t know what you’re gonna get most of the time. That said, the chances of any drafted player playing in the NHL is low. It’s mostly a numbers game.
  25. Thank God he wasn’t picked 212th in the 7th round. Then he’d really have no chance in playing in the NHL.
