  1. Idk about a 4th but we can probably both agree on: anything more than a 2025 7th. A 7th rd pick next year would make sense. Im not gonna hate on KA for the return, just surprised it wasnt a little more
  2. the team last night showed what the future looks like if we don't bring in any outside help for our D. The future didn't look so bright last night, with the only thing being sacrificed: our Sabres.
  3. I think anythings a possibility until you can rule it out. Given the question marks we have at goal, with Levi being no sure thing himself, if Portillo believes in himself there's no reason to think he cant see an opportunity here. But in the Buffalo News he was quoted saying: he was recommended to go this route, as a business decision. So perhaps Levi is part of it? I'd imagine with a decision like this, its a combination of factors, pros & cons & the cons here were too much, for whatever reason
  4. I'd guess its because we haven't sniffed the playoffs in 11 years. We finally have a team in an actual position to end that streak. We have lots of assets in players & picks & while you don't want to alter the long term plan, a little boost seems worth the risk to give yourself a legit shot to make the post season, something we havent done since 2012. At some point the calculus has to change
  5. i can see & even agree that Chychrun wasn't an ideal fit given everything already said on it. But how does one explain away passing on Schenn? A lot of the concerns or reasons against trading for Chych u didnt have with Schenn & i'd say we had the surplus of resources needed to get him or someone like him. If Stillman is the tip of the spear this trade deadline, it will have been a missed opportunity & disappointing for sure. Fan base wont go anywhere tho, we've made it this far haha
  6. i could see it being possible until you see the return Arizona received. Surely we couldve beaten it without sending Savoie, so i cant see Arizona turning down a better offer because they're upset we wont give them Savoie. That doesnt really make much sense. Simpler explanation is KA didnt think he was worth this, for whatever reasons he has.
  7. would be a good idea. In the meantime thankfully i can look at my cell phone to look at the scores there lol
  8. Idk how much of a BILLS fan you are, but this idea of placing priority on character over talent is a theme being discussed with Brandon Beane right now too. I remember some months back hearing how KA was confiding in Beane to discuss how he approaches roster building & what not. Bit of a similarity between the 2, for better or worse
  9. i actually read the whole thing & generally i agree but i dont too. The game is always changing but the fundamentals stay the same. Thats why coaches who have coached the game for decades are still able to find success today. So try to be an evolution of coaching? If thats the goal it would seem misplaced or even dangerous. Do we have the brainpower in our organization to be even capable of that? And if thats the focus, it'd mean your focus is on some philosophy you have as opposed to being predicated on what you see from the players & staff on the ice. The only thing i care about is having a hard working team that gives an honest effort, does what theyre supposed to do & represents our city & teammates in a desirable way. Winning would be nice too & making the playoffs. Everything else like being on the forefront of this or being an evolution of coaching, i have no idea what any of that looks like. One could argue Krueger was that experiment or even Granato now given his developmental pedigree. But i know what good sound hockey looks like. Not giving away the pucks in your zone, not letting players free & undefended in your zone. Having a good faceoff guy, good goaltending etc. We still do a lot of the basic, fundamental foundational things poorly. I do know that if u coach up the simple things you can tackle the bigger things & winning makes everything better. That would be an evolution of coaching around here. I guess my TLDR is lets just start with doing the basics competently before we think of trying to be an evolution of anything lol

  11. I read that in 2017 he spent some $1.2 million on exotic snakes. I knew right there how serious a problem he had lol hope he gets his life in order, but don't blame the Sabres for it. Even if he ever had a legitimate gripe there were probably better ways to handle it & there were bigger issues going on where some personal responsibility is what you need... something he evidently lacked.
  12. Kane sorta made sense in past seasons, where our offense was an issue & a weapon like Kane (plus him being from Buffalo) made him look like a great addition. But times have changed now, our team is different & our offense is now a strength of the team & a player like Kane, isnt as attractive as before. Truth is we don't need him & as everyone stated, he'd most likely be a net negative for what we'd have to give up. If we're gonna pay a high cost, pay to upgrade an area of weakness, ie: defense/goalie
  13. Was a nice post Taro, i'll just reply to the last part. Can you imagine if Andy loses any time? I'm getting flashbacks to last year of scrambling to find a goalie to dress. The fact that its even a possibility... again, has to be considered a failure on Adams' part to address the position in an appropriate/significant way. Last year one couldve said it was bad luck or a culmination of bad events. There's no such excuse this year. I understand the reasons we give for why the decision was made to go with Comrie & Co this year, there's just too much 'hope' involved with both, where if i were GM i'd want something more dependable & proven. We hope Comrie's previous small sample size carries into a full season or that he can handle that. And we hope Anderson's body doesnt fall apart out there, but its at least probable it will. Im not putting our woes on the goaltending tho as the main issues ive seen stem from just lousy play in front of whoever is in net. Letting forwards skate free, too many oddman rushes against, players out of position, bad passing or giveaways etc. Our margin for error is so low as we have to play near our best everynight it seems to be in a position for a win. We depend on clutch saves to keep us in games when the play breaks down & thats where having an above average goalie helps. Something we haven't had since Miller & before that Hasek. There is 1 common thread between our 2 previous playoff teams, if only we could figure it out lol.
  14. We know all too well about fast & good looking starts to the season around here. With our history in mind i'd say it'll take a larger sample size of games to accurately assess who this team is & where they can go. We've been fooled before so ask next month haha. But its been some great hockey to watch & I'm liking what i see in the compete department. Players are standing up for each other as well which is nice to see. And our speed has been a problem for opposing teams. Time will tell who this team really is, for now they are growing 😛
  15. Yep. Money printers have gone brrrr pumping up the markets for years. Now the vacuum cleaners go brrrr, with the Fed sucking up $9 Trillion out of the economy with their QT. We haven't really had the time to see the impacts of these rate cuts, yet alone the removal of so much money from the economy or so many shocks to the system with our stronger dollar & other currencies collapsing & yet the recession is already here. Cant wait to see what happens when we start realizing these other impacts that i barely even covered. I really hope i have money to go see the Sabres in future years but it feels we're just as close to guns & butter time. And the more you know/learn the scarier it gets lol. BILLS, SABRES, just one of you bring it on home once before civilization collapses, PLEASE! 😛
  16. Owner's buying an abacus? Talk about being out of touch 😛
  17. couldn't have said it any better & for our sakes I hope he is
  18. Well at least we don't have 2 players on that list. For awhile i would've added Okposo & i still think that contract was bad, but at this point its not an issue given where the team is at & what Kyle adds to this team. Hopefully Skinner just keeps his production up, living up to the deal until we can get out from it. But i wouldn't say its the absolute worst deal we've ever made. Plenty of other options for that one... maybe that could be a thread? But tbh I'd rather look forward & at all our potential than revisiting the trash of the past lol. Pretty excited to watch this team continue to improve. We just need the rest of the world to hang in there & not blow itself up these next few years, so our prospects have enough time to season & we can make the playoffs again. Just hang in there world a little big longer! Go Sabres! 😛
  19. Is/was Arttu better than Bjork? I'd like to know why he's still on the roster
  20. The way i look at it is he's in our system now. If Comrie had been developed all along by us in the manner he was in Winnipeg, then with his 19 game sample size last year we'd be looking at him to take this next natural step. It just so happens that before today it was with Winnipeg & today its with us. Since we needed a goalie desperately, however we got to this point he is our guy now. And im relieved we did something & with a player who at the very least is on an upward development track & not a declining one.
  21. we're aiming for the stars no doubt, up there in Hockey Heaven
  22. Holtby's injured & according to Frank Seravalli his career may be over. Varlamov is on the Islanders signed for another year. There was some thought that Lamoriello would move him because it'd take $5 mil off their cap sheet, but looks like he's staying. Jake Oettinger is negotiating a new deal with the Stars. I'm beyond desperate for at least an average NHL goalie here. I'd pay a premium with term if it meant having a good one come here. Prospect pipeline timeline be damned.
  23. dangit, thought we were all setup to draft McGroarty & Winnipeg snagged him ahead of us. I know nobody had him ranked this high, but liked him as a player.
