  1. I’d say Detroit’s strategy is based on Yzerman’s experiences in Detroit as a player and Tampa as a GM. His goal, although artificial, is to lock the door to the NHL from his prospects and force them to earn a spot without a question. After all, Tampa and 90’s/early 2000’s Detroit were that way. The issue is that he’s using more or less stuffing to block prospects. If you have a high talent NHL roster, playing hard to get for prospects makes sense and can help push them harder. On the flip side, barring Compher and Copp magically turning into Zetterburg and Datsyuk; they are a middling team with too many ok players on big contracts. Detroit is more or less our exact opposite; we left openings for rookies to jump into and learn under fire. Detroit brought in vets galore and have more or less blocked most of their prospects from even having a shot due to the contracts they gave out. Essentially where Buffalo could have used 1 more vet piece to help keep maybe 1 more youngster in Rochester; Detroit has welded the door shut.
  2. Honestly that specific case probably wouldn’t be allowed as US dollars > Canadian dollars as well as Quebec isn’t exactly some mega metropolis.
  3. Incorrect you are young Jedi Detroit has more vets, but doesn’t make them better than us. Arguably they are still worse in general while also dealing with far less of a timeframe to reach a higher level due to their advanced ages. Young players have potential to get better, older players almost never improve and thus are what they are. None of their players exactly scare me. Debrincat, Larkin and Raymond are their core 3 forwards. Very good players but after that you have a hodgepodge of ok players and nothing dynamic on offense. The Sens are more or less snapping at our heels much like they did the whole past season. Dahlin > Chabot, Power > Sanderson thus automatically giving us an advantage on defense. Offensively they have similar skill levels to our guys but not quite the general depth of skill. The only place they may have us beat is in net, but Levi can still beat Korpisalo with a solid rookie campaign.
  4. In theory this might actually help season ticket holders. If Sabres regions get 1st come, 1st serve over Toronto/Montreal's fans it could potentially create a fake squeeze on tickets in the resale market. Bob from Buffalo buys 4 tickets for $150 each most years, this year he buys 10 tickets; why, because he knows he can easily sell them himself. Bob then sells 6 of the 10 tickets for $350 each. While it doesn't fix the stadium fan issue; it certainly works well for savvy fans with some disposable income at their disposal.
  5. They wouldn’t stop watching the Bills, it would be more in regards to buying tickets and the like.
  6. The Bills wouldn't become a loss but general sales would go down due to many Sabres fans would outright boycott going to BIlls games if the Sabres moved.
  7. I could see that, I doubt he'd fully sell the team because the backlash would effect his Bills bottom line as well. However by separating the two would allow him to sell a piece of the Sabres without involving the Bills.
  8. Is there context I'm not knowledgeable of?
  9. Delaware North's contract expires in two or three years. I know, through a source, that PSE is expecting Delaware North to really step up their game in Key Bank and the present Bills stadium in order to hold onto the Sabres contract. Essentially Delaware North doesn't want to lose both of its home town contracts which is now very possible.
  10. Probably not, I could see him making a magical play to start one though
  11. To be honest, he may be wanting to to UFA due to the salary cap movement and that will stick CAR between a rock and a hard place
  12. I would, nothing good comes from shorter terms.
  13. Daily with multiple repeats however.
  14. As I said in a different thread; you sign Kane if we run into injuries in January/February and/or Quinn needs more than those months to recover fully. Unless his surgery has magically repaired his skating entirely he’s only be a good 3rd line scoring threat at this point. He still wowed 2 years ago, last year he was dealing with a serious hip injury. So I wouldn’t consider him washed up; only over the hill at this stage of his career
  15. Matthews will make nearly as much as Cozens and Thompson do combined.
  16. 1. Power either gets a bridge or long term, I'm not playing with the fire created with a 4 year deal. 2. My target contract would be 6x7mil, anything less is great. 7mil is about the max we can go and 6 years is the max time due to him being 30 when the contract starts.
  17. Pesce because we'd be able to sign him theoretically. Hellebuyck would be great if he weren't asking for Vasilieski's contract when he's 31
  18. I do personally still have this unusual belief we still want to acquire Pesce and Adams moving Bush is partially in order to free up a roster space, cap space, and be able to pounce eventually. If anything he's in a staring contest with Carolina. Something has to give in Carolina after all, they have 8 UFAs (5UFAs next year, 3 the following year) and a Beaulieu on a PTO. Their UFAs at this year's end Teravainen, Martinook, Skjei, Pesce, Chatfield, Raanta (Jones and Deangelo) RFAs: Jarvis, Necas and Drury One would have to believe something has to give
  19. All he did was bow down to the leftist media outrage.
  20. MacLean ended up in hot water for 9/11 comments and Cherry stood up for him to the press in 2012.
  21. To be frank his shtick did get annoying, but I certainly feel he got betrayed by the very man he stood up for multiple times. It’s a rather sad story to be honest; Cherry was banished for being overly demonstrative on questionable topics while his former cohost goes politically correct and keeps his role by throwing him under the bus
  22. He was always a more private guy but age and his two linemates passing likely lessened his reasons to visit Buffalo physically. Not to mention we have no idea if his wife was ill or anything
  23. They had the same sense of humor and bounced off each other incredibly well. Harry Neale was a great Color guy but never fit great with Rick due their styles clashing to an extent. Rob Ray is well, Rob Ray; he's a good bench guy but mediocre at best Color guy. He had chemistry with RJ though akin to a grampa ripping his kids while they fail to fight back knowing they can't win.
  24. Well until we are a playoff team, we have to play nice to create a good league opinion of us. It is however a bit of a catch-22 since we lose solid depth that could help us become a playoff team. Its just one of those balancing acts a GM has to do. Plus I don't understand why we are handwringing over a 7D; its not like we dumped Skinner on the side of the road.
