  1. What I’m trying to get to was nowadays he would be grabbed and most goalies who do well in the AHL are forced into the NHL once that waiver clearance ends. In UPL’s case he was very unlucky as most of his NHL time was due to abnormal numbers of goalie injuries forcing the Sabres to use him. More than likely, this past year should have been his inaugural season, not his 3rd. But rampant injuries forced him into the NHL and his own injuries have made 2/3 very short stints. (We used 6 goalies his first two years) In that regard, Levi gets to stay in Rochester because he hasn’t been needed to play out last year’s playoff run which gave evidence he might be ready already.
  2. The issue with UPL and the AHL was is that any prospect worth going after would be swooped up on waivers when they’d become subject to waivers. Hill wasn’t good until he sprung onto the scene with Arizona.
  3. Well the Juneau trade was weird for sure Juneau and a 3rd for a defensive prospect (who busted) and a 4th. How often does a rental get traded with the higher draft pick?
  4. Love the name, but he doesn't seem any different than UPL with good AHL stats in Providence
  5. I'd like him to get a goalie but I still personally agree that trading premier pieces for a rental in Hellebuyck would be idiotic and/or paying him 8x9mil would be idiotic. Could we get Markstrom cheap and to bounce back, that would be worth a look but Vladar doesn't move the needle.
  6. If he honestly said that, he might be one of the most unusual drunks around; a combative yet strangely "fancy" drunk. (Who the hell says bloodline nowadays in that way lol) Utterly despicable however as funny as it might be indirectly. I'd certainly guess he can kiss his career in North America good bye.
  7. In the end the likely result of no moves will be due to a lack of availability of solid goalies and/or the price of acquisition being over what any sane GM would give. Its also likely stopped up at this time league wide due to all the RFA goalies outstanding and a lack of cap space to go around. Teams that need to acquire goalies and have cap either aren’t competing or already have guys. We are arguably the closest team to one that can handle a larger cap hit while having need of a goalie. Boston is screwed if Swayman reaches arbitration. He’ll like get 4-5mil due to his team and personal success.
  8. Had fun got all but Detroit and Calgary
  9. I’m surprised you have such interest in a player who is far from what I’d guess to be a @PerreaultForever would be.
  10. You want a rental Helle? I’ll offer UPL and a 2nd that becomes a 1st if we make the playoffs. Then let him walk because I have zero interest in paying him 8x9mil
  11. We aren’t a physical team but we aren’t a team of wallflowers anymore.
  12. Certainly, team identity most certainly plays a role in this. The culture you refer to there sounds like Torts lol. His issue has always been an inability to handle young players. In some ways you need a player culture that values defense while simultaneously having a coach who is more offensively open.
  13. Well yes, I already understand that lol. I honestly think he can do it.
  14. Clifton honestly doesn’t even need to be a true 4D, he just needs to mesh with Power well. If they hit it off, it won’t matter Clifton’s skill level since Power will make up any minor shortfalls. Eric Johnson isn’t capable of playing Top 4 minutes anymore aside a brief stint of due to injuries. He did however have to play Top 4 in the Playoffs two years ago in their Cup Run due to Girard’s injury. So in a pinch, he still has the mental acuity to play Top 4 briefly. My guess is he’s a 4-5 guy, usually 3rd pairing but plays 3-4 mins due to PK responsibilities
  15. My question is, how long until Power learns how to shoot? When he does his stats will nearly double since there were many times last year he was in great positions but failed to get a great shot off. Just look how much better Dahlin looks with a solid point shot capability. It forces opponents to be mindful of it and thus opens up more opportunities. Power would gain a great boon to have a solid shot of his own since he already has the ability to headfake players out of their skates.
  16. Granato is right in theory, and you aren’t exactly wrong either though. Offense is easier to pick up but harder to master since NHL level hockey is far more difficult than any other level on skill level alone. Defense is typically a thankless job which without the confidence gained through offense can sink most younger players. For most young players, it is very true that many have an offensive disposition. Arguably the best way to get those players to do in the NHL what they did to get drafted is help them score. A confident player will be more open to expanding their game. Teaching defense isn’t easy, but becomes far more doable with a player who feels confident and comfortable in their skin. There are some exceptions who pride themselves on defensive play but it takes a specific type of person to have that naturally. It’s far easier to feel defeated playing defensively than offensively for most players. If a player does everything right on offense but doesn’t score, they’ll get angry but also more driven to strike again. It’s a net neutral overall. Defensively if you play perfect yet they still score can quickly create any number of psychological issues if not handled correctly because the likelihood of a net negative occurring. Some will think their perfection wasn’t perfect enough and start over compensating. Some will start feeling vitriol to their teammates. And some will feel defeated and sort of withdraw into themselves thus only furthering the damage. Effectively it is far easier to raise a player’s confidence through learning offense than it is through defense since mistakes don’t necessarily end up in your net.
  17. Trading your next 2 1sts is rarely if ever a good move. The sheer number of ways it can bite you outweighs the good. Could I come around to Östlund/Rosen and a conditional 2nd which becomes a 1st if we make the playoffs for a WJC cleared Hart, yes. As for having not enough room for all the prospects, I understand the sentiment and it does concern me some degree; however the last thing I want to do is preemptively move out prospects to lessen that possibility. Prospect depth must be replenished at least every other year or else you may find yourself like Botts found himself after Murray. Little to no high end talent coming through the system and too many holes to fill. UFAs rarely are the answer for anything more than depth and Cup experience.
  18. Korpisalo isn’t worth what he got. He isn’t that good and long term contracts with goalies are rarely good. Essentially I don’t see him as much of an upgrade on UPL/Comrie. You seem far too willing to just throw assets around to be frank. Hart isn’t worth anywhere near 2 1sts. Briere can ask for it but I wouldn’t meet it for sure. Again he’s likely a 1 year guy with high variability in his play.
  19. I’d be furious if they traded Kulich/Savoie/Benson. I’d be happy but confused as what to do with all these D with Pesce. I’d be very angry if we gave Helle 8x9mil because he is certainly not worth that for his 31 to 39 years. As well as it practically seals off Levi or leave us with a giant cap dump to deal with.
  20. To be honest I don't think Adams is some sort of miser with assets and would like to make a move or two to put his team in a better situation. The issue is that teams aren't playing nice and as such we're trapped in an endless holding pattern. Think the Chychrun situation on a wider degree. We know of at least two solid trade strategies that were struck down by external pressure, Chychrun's uneven demands & Murray's NTC as well as a likely rumored acquisition attempt of Gibson who like Murray blocked the offer. That most certainly shows a degree of aggression to improve the team. Greenway was supposedly acquired at a slightly higher price than initially offered by the team. This gives me a sense that many teams aren't discussing in good faith over value. If Hellebuyck is worth a 1st and they decline our offer of a 1st while insisting on Kulich/Savoie or even Benson now you end up in a holding pattern not due to a lack of effort but an insistence on prospects which Adams has no desire to move. Essentially imagine buying something for $65 and you go to the register with 3 $20's and a $5 and although its completely correct value. The cashier wants a $50 and a $20. So they are both demanding a different asset and an additional $5 for "friendliness" That is what I theorize is going on.
  21. For Pesce level acquisition sure, but not with the present roster. Plus Dahlin is practically the same analytically and looks better on the right side
  22. I just want a couple games so we can have a Johnson&Johnson D-pair
  23. I wouldn't since it puts a player out of his element on the Top pair and wastes Muel's talents
  24. He would be suspended and not paid in that case. Additionally there would be a chance he’d get blackballed by the league
  25. I’d offer Jokiharju, Olofsson and UPL for Gibson and Henrique
