  1. The Brown trade was supposed to be Stafford and 2nd/3rd round and Adam, not or Leo could still fetch a 2nd if we were damn lucky (Gaustad style) Brown is the C, if they trade him it would make the other players feel no one is excusable.
  2. You are GM, what do you do? Remember though, you can't just trade away all the stars for the obvious reason "fans". You have the rest of this season and next to rebuild and retool. By 2014-2015, we want a cup or at least a great playoff appearance. 1. Work out a deal with the LAK to send Stafford and 2nd/3rd round pick or Adam there for Dustin Brown. (Both teams are struggling, and need something to wake up their teams. Plus both were talked about last year.) 2. 3rd/4th round pick for Tallinder (He may be somewhat injury-prone now but he's still a solid D-Man and may help get Myers out of whatever sort of problem he has.) 3. Leopold for a 2nd or 3rd rounder, being sure to stress last year's play. (A few teams are very D-deficient still like Detroit) 4. Probe the market for Gerbe, Enroth, Sekera, and Ennis's values. Offseason 5. Finish season, if Ruff still can't turn the team around with all the new moves, fire him. 6. Hire Patrick Roy or Randy Cunneyworth. Maybe get them both 1 as HC and the other as AC. Let the HC decide what to do with the rest of the coaching staff. 7. Unload Gerbe for a 3rd/4th round pick. 8. Jump in on the Ryan Getzlaf FA fiasco and work hard to get 1 of them. 9. Trade Ennis for a vet C with some gas in the tank still and a couple picks. 10. If Leino doesn't play at all, hold him until next year. 11. Resign Regehr for lower contract unless he wishes to retire. Resign Sulzer to about the same deal as this year abiet maybe slightly more money. Intended Lines 13-14 (With Getzlaf) FORWARDS Thomas Vanek ($7.143m) / Cody Hodgson ($2.750m) / Jason Pominville ($5.300m) Marcus Foligno ($0.900m) / Ryan Getzlaf ($5.325m) / Dustin Brown ($3.175m) Steve Ott ($2.950m) / Mikhail Grigorenko ($1.775m) / Ville Leino ($4.500m) Patrick Kaleta ($1.250m) / Cody McCormick ($1.200m) / Corey Tropp ($0.701m) Jochen Hecht ($1.250m) / DEFENSEMEN Tyler Myers ($5.500m) / Henrik Tallinder ($3.038m—10.0%) Christian Ehrhoff ($4.000m) / Alexander Sulzer ($1.125m) Mike Weber ($1.200m) / Robyn Regehr ($3.020m) T.J. Brennan ($0.805m) / GOALTENDERS Ryan Miller ($6.250m) David Leggio ($0.650m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,955,857; BONUSES: $850,000 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,194,143
  3. I'd send a 4th Rounder to NJ for Tallinder; he has been nothing special for them and it woud allow them to unload some salary.
  4. My exact thoughts, the Ottawa player covered up the puck. Isn't that supposed to be a delay of game?
  5. Terrible play by Enroth Myers started bad, but after that one good shift with about 5min left, he looked calm and composed. With both Regehr and Erhroff out tonight, Myers must play like a #1 since we don't have 1 Foligno seems to be the only player on his line who talks on the bench. While Ennis and Stafford do their thing, Foligno pats them both on the knee and said somethings to them. Plus he stuck up for Vanek.
  6. Terrible game for us but there was a small silver-lining; Mike Weber, Christian Erhroff, and Alex Sulzer all showed great poise in a game we were blown out in. Sekera injured? Vanek continues his hot streak, the first line looked a bit stale at times but still showed bursts of skill. If I were Darcy/Ruff atm, I would do the following: Trade Leopold for a 2nd or 3rd, just get him off the team; he's brutal to watch. Bring up McNabb from the Amerks. Sit Myers for a game. Trade a 3rd rounder and Pardy to NJ for Tallinder; maybe he'll be able to get Myers out of his funk.
  7. I wouldn't say that Hodgson is the reason for the success on the 1st line but I wouldn't say Ellis would give the same result. Hodgson is still young yet still can skate with our big two without looking out of place, and can pass and shoot very well. He needs D work, but he does appear to be a help to those two due to his style of play on offense, he's a passer.
  8. That game was amazing! Vanek was a god with 3g 2a 5p Pominville & Hodgson did very well as well with 1g 2a 3p a piece Sulzer started bad, but seemed to really get under control after his goal. Weber looked as how we all hoped he would be, a shot blocker who hits people Erhroff looked great and truly is at least in the top 5 PP D-Men. Ennis play has improved the last couple games, good sign Foligno looks nothing like he did last year, he looks even more like a vet trying to help lead the team by any means No A's or C this year, but he keeps this up he deserves an A within the next 2 seasons. Miller looked amazing and only really let one somewhat save-able goal in Myers....... showed occasional sparks but seemed to short out after the 1st period Leopold seems unable to play at any average level, he's either doing great or terrible (more so on the negative side) Scott gave a man a concussion; what else is there to say?
  9. Stanley Cup Roster Lines Vanek-Hodgson-Pominville Foligno-Grigs-Armia Ott-Vet C-Stafford/Leino (Fight for the 1 spot) (Vet C would need to be above average, someone who fits in at any of the top 3 lines if need be; like when Roy was our #3) Kaleta-Girgensons-Tropp/Catenacci (either could get 3rd line aswell) Myers-McNabb Ehrhoff-Weber Brennan/Sekera-Lock Down D man (prospects or trade) Miller Makarov I would trade Leopold, Ennis, Enroth to get a quality Defensive D-man and/or a C to fit in either on line 1 or 3. Regehr would retire after next year, after signing a 1 yr contract with Buffalo. Ruff is "retired" at the end of this year due to another playoffs missed and Patrick Roy is brought on to either coach the Amerks or Sabres. James Patrick is kept in an advisory job. Buffalo hires a new doctor team, they seem to miss alot of injuries.....
  10. Just got home from the game: GRIGS!!!!!! FOLIGNO TACKLE HUG of HAPPINESS!!!!! Miller seemed to make big saves yet let in easy shots, very odd. Vanek with another point Weber looked fine, if anything he seemed rusty but grittier than before. Refs were brutal, Weber penalized for protecting his own yet Brown and some other Leaf get away with dirty plays. Foligno getting high sticked in OT is the other. (Kaleta is in the hospital with a neck injury) The stadium was loud, felt playoff-like, endless fighting of the fans between Go Leafs Go and Let's Go Buffalo! and yelling. 1 Leaf Fan got kicked out for something. The end was brutal, we need to trade Leopold while he still has value.
  11. I agree with Scott being useless but Ott seems far more useful seeing as he can actually play a position.
  12. I'm honestly terribly torn between keeping Grigo here and sending him back for two reasons. 1. Grigo is 18 2. And his roster spot is needed for a vet Center like a Jason Arnott to help mentor our other 2 young centers. Plus he can technically fill in at both Line 1 and 2 do to experience. Hell, push comes to shove we can sign Petr Sykora and reunite 2/3rds of the 2000 Devils 1st line. This being said, I am disappointed by the fact Leino hasn't got to play with Ott and Grigs.
  13. What do you all think about his fate? I imagine him being traded along with a D-man for some vet winger 15-20 goal scorer or some sort of moderately high prospect (Teams desperate for a D-Man)
  14. It's sad but true that Myers' value has dropped in the eyes of Sabres fans. If there is a nice D-man class at the draft I would at least entertain offers for Myers
  15. Seeing as unless he wows us in the next two games, I would honestly send him back to the Quebec league for the rest of the year. In his place I'd go out and sign Jason Arnott to a 1 year deal like we did with Hecht. He's score 17 goals in both of his last 2 seasons but more importantly, he's a veteran center who has won a Stanley Cup.
  16. Poor Miller lost his shutout because Buffalo seemed to shut down at the end, maybe they were getting fatigued? Regardless though, we won and get 2 more points.
  17. Myers bulldozed Lilles out of the crease and then in comes Ehrhoff with the final blow to send those three plus another Leaf out of the crease. Ott's penalty was very weak, all he did was move the puck; he didn't drop down onto it..... Hodgson scoring goals where Vanek is supposed to be and Vanek is scoring how Hodgson is supposed to via dekes and slapshots. The Leafs failed to score after at least a 3:30 min PP with 5-3 over 2min That's both sad for them and good for us.
  18. Vanek started somewhat slow but by the end was in peak form. Hodgson was everywhere, shooting, passing, deking, scoring. Hell, I even saw him hit a couple guys. Foligno and Ott seem to bring more life to the Sabres team for sure, both skate hard regardless of what's going on, both hit players as much as possible, and both were on their A games today. Ott's goal though was awesome to see. Refs helped us at the end. Miller seemed to be like Vanek, slow start, looked better as the game went on. Announcers on TV sucked. Stafford fighting and driving hard to the net, I like where this is going.
  19. Stafford stepping up for his linemate, Foligno also hit Hartnell after the original play. I love it, I like the more passionate Sabres 2nd/3rd lines. Our D-men seem half asleep more than 3/4th of the time. Bogus call on Ott. So Vanek hasn't gone down low eh..........
  20. Millbury also made an error in his overview of yesterday, Florida blew out Washington...... *facepalm*
  21. Is the training camp today closed or open to the public?
  22. My condolences to you and your family. I guess now though he gets to watch every game from whereever he likes and can meet famous Sabres that have passed before him.
