What is with you and your anti-Risto crusade. You're like PA with the Pegulas. He has all of them which is rather rare, and has stepped up into a #1 role when most young D are sheltered. As qwk and trueblue said, he has ice in his veins and with a bit more aggression he'd be a top 10 Dman in the league in a couple years. He's already Top 10 in A/TOI and played the full 82 game schedule while doing so. Stats are worthless from the past two years, he was given Duncan Keith's role with a team of AHLers. He was supposed to literally be and do everything.

Would #8 + Baptiste and a 3rd & 5th be enough to move up to #6? To be honest Calgary is the only team I could see being willing to deal with us since they will likely take a forward. Edmonton and Vancouver are wildcards in that Edmonton might trade it for a guy and Vancouver can use either a forward or Dman

No, but yes. Yes he's overmatched since he's a 21 year old Dman having to prop up a 2nd pairing guy and log 25min plus a night (10th in the league) (While playing 82 games as well) Our biggest problem is we lack either more consistent 2nd pair or a better partner for Risto

Maybe the plan was to lose 3 of 4 to give the Blues a false sense of confidence so they can crush it all in a Game 7 comeback. ;)

He signs him, end of story. He's our best Dman by far, not to mention what do I gain with 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd. You get a Dman 3/4 years from now & maybe another 5/6 years from now. And in the mean time we become Edmonton due to a serious lack of defense. Even if you shop the acquired picks, you have no guarantee you'll get a player of equal or better skill. Not to mention you'll lose most of your leverage since you'd suddenly be rather desperate for a Top 2 guy. You bite the bullet and you lock him up long term, you don't have a choice. Then when the day comes said other team has a top end RFA you return the favor. Not all 6 of your Dmen must be super quick, Risto isn't fast per-say but he isn't Franson. Risto is a net front presence, has an edge to him, and many other intangibles. You pair him with that PP QB because they would mesh well by covering up each others weaknesses.

Not many, maybe Raffi Torres/Matt Cooke level punks who go out of there way to injure other players. But even with them I'd not really wish seizure level concussion problems on anyone barring terrorists and dictators. So concussions with "minor" long term effects would be ok in my book since Torres did concuss other players on purpose. But that really is as far as it goes.
