Wouldn’t do that; that would be absurd overpay.

Physical play including fighting are missing from the game...

I disagree about Vanek, that guy took a beating through his career and rarely relented. -
If he does very well, I’d almost expect Anderson to start having vet cramps and need to be on IR for stretches.

What is this team is missing to compete consistently?

Ironically many defensive Dman I’ve looked at are all RHDs. Even ones we wouldn’t be able to trade for. I wonder why -

How's this? DeMelo and WPG's 3rd for Olofsson, Fitzgerald, and a later pick? The issue is I can't even think of any intriguing physically active players available. -
I'm done with Bryson at this point, replace him. Jokiharju I badly want to work out because of his play in his first year here but it just seems like he's spinning his proverbial defensive wheels. When we take anyone even akin to that style they either end up complete busts or never get past the AHL

I just don’t understand how we can cycle through hundreds of players, coaches, and the like and yet the team always falls right back into the exact same groove. And don’t tell me ownership is to blame because I highly doubt Pegula is somehow magically popping every balloon anytime we seem to start going somewhere.

Physical play including fighting are missing from the game...

Someone on CapFriendly did it last season for us and found we averaged about 4 or so hits more per road game than at home which overall would of put us at the bottom but not by some absurd level. This was after a Sabres vs Philly game in which Marty and Duffer called out the lack of hits in a rather physical game still only finishing with 13 for Philly and like 6 for Buffalo -

Our arena is also known for making lower than usual hit counts for both teams which certainly doesn’t help us with overall. -

Sometimes I honestly wonder if the NHL doctors team's styles from behind the scenes for TV and drama reasons. Boston and Philly must be bruisers and will be given leeway to create more of it. Edmonton is to be a free wheeling team. I say that because Buffalo hasn't had any degree of team wide physicality since at least 2008 and every known physical player we bring on seems to just stop. When is the last time Bush destroyed someone? -
Boring but makes sense not to add yet another youngster trying to figure out the NHL when we have no clue how long he’d even get to try.

But that in lies the issue. Whereas when we were playing Pilut, Clague, and Fitzgerald as part of our Top 6, a guy like Schenn would of been a great depth piece. The issue is where does he go while everyone is healthy? He, like Mike Reilly doesn’t want to go to the AHL. And when we’d be fully healthy he’d be our 7/8 automatically due to his age and lack of long term usefulness. It becomes even worse if he outplayed Bryson as it places Granato in an unwinnable position. Do you play Bryson whom you want to see if he can grow into something or a slightly better vet which has little value outside of the immediate time. If Granato preaches best play = playing time then he’d be left either being a liar or stunting growth. I don’t think our depth is money driven but rather who would be willing to play in Rochester primarily unless needed and would raise a tantrum over it. That is literally why Pysyk signed with Detroit; he was penciled in to play 6/7. With us adding Bush, we would of only been able to offer him 8/Rochester in order to protect Fitzgerald from being claimed by New Jersey. -

What ticks me off is how both Buffalo PKs were called on chincy calls and Thompson can be ridden like a pony and not draw a call. -
Trading our prospect pool for “quick fixes” is how Murray screwed our 1st rendition of the rebuild. Where are these supposed high cap, low year solid Dman that Adams is supposed to be targeting? Myers isn’t worth pursuit Most of the players are on teams that need or want them already and would gut our assets to acquire for some short term fix or paid absurd contracts that would get in the way of our homegrown talent. (DAHLIN, Cozens, etc.) Again, where do you hope to find a solid goalie? Good or great goalies are effectively locked away by their team. All that remains are an assortment of has beens, maybes, and hideously bad. He tried for a fixer in Murray but was denied and chose to grab the highest analytic potential goalie as a UFA. Throwing wads of cash at Campbell or Husso to convince them to come here is effectively shooting into a crowd with a blindfold on and hoping you hit the apple on a guy’s head.

Bear isn't good, he's very akin to Fitzgerald with a cool name. Reilly, well honestly I'd of claimed him Myers isn't all that good defensively; while better than our present D, he wouldn't fit with Dahlin, Bush and Jokiharju taking the 3 RHD spots Chychrun is not worth trading multiple 1sts for in our case. I highly doubt they want Rosen, Mitts and Ryan Johnson..... That would be an interesting pickup I'm rather annoyed by this idea to be honest. So far, most if not every goalie signed this season or acquired has been far from solid. Husso has been the best thus far but has also been lit up like a Christmas tree a few time as well. Money does not equate to success. Defensive depth is much the same; its depth and players who fill those roles know what they are. You can't dump money on slightly better Dmen depth then effectively bury them for emergencies. There were slim pickings this offseason to begin with. Signing a "good" vet to take a spot in the 6 doesn't make sense if they are merely a placeholder and are preventing experience for those we actually want to keep around. The trade market is much better either seeing as many teams have suspect goaltending thus far this season.

Well unsurprisingly our team was shaken by the loss of multiple Dmen and has suffered due to it.

Saying that means little, we can’t magically make a goalie come here and play well.
