  1. Show off, I can't do any (or at least couldn't last time I tried (and I can't imagine that has changed)). For awhile I was getting close (40% of body weight with one arm), but ended up hurting my left tricep and fell off the workout wagon. I like to "blame" my long arms for making the leverage less advantageous; I'm 6'2" (74") but my wingspan is something like 81". Go go Monkey Arms.
  2. It's June and the home team hasn't played a game in 2 months?
  3. If the clunk varies with speed and is rhythmic, could be a CV joint or half-shaft gone bad.
  4. We all knew you were a dude; "were" being more accurate than usual based on the video.
  5. So today may be the day this goes over 10000! That's a lot of bitching! Complaint: meetings. Normally I don't mind meetings since I almost always sit at my desk, but now I have a bunch more work to do away from my desk in the lab *AND* a bunch of meetings to talk about that work so I'm suddenly at 4-5PM and haven't gotten my lab work done yet. At least I have work, I guess.
  6. The explosion of domestic surveilance started with PRISM in 2007 (and ECHELON before that in the 80s), you can't exactly hang that on Obama. The only question is whether the program was ramped up in the last 6 years or the *reports* of it have been ramped up. The FISA court was a product of Post-9/11 paranoia too. "Enemy" probably a bad term on my part, I was trying to think of something succinct to express "people who you disagree with and want to prevent the country moving towards their viewpoint". Well, one of two things jump to mind: these people didn't want to say anything bad 5 years ago to smear his name (we know how some groups like to clam up when investigators come knocking), but for whatever reason aren't worried about it now. The second is the Army did hear this testimony and dismissed it as hearsay, opinion, or otherwise unreliable. Cable news isn't as picky as what it puts on.
  7. You know that only the far right considers Obama a left-wing extremist, right? No true left-wing extremist (or even basic left-wing) signs the Monsanto bill or allows the internet to become segregated by who can pay enough to the ISPs. Obama is far more moderate than Fox News gives him credit for. But it makes sense, if you're way over on either side anyone even remotely close to middle looks like the "enemy".
  8. A friend of mine who's very well-trained in firearms (son of a cop, serious practice, classes, etc.) will tell you that the *only* time you pull a gun is if you intend to fire. Waving it around escalates the situation tremendously which if you're not planning on firing probably won't go well for you.
  9. The as far as the New Testament goes, that all seems pretty anti-sword. Or, if I want to be glib, people are allowed no more than two weapons (even I'd read it that those are for the class and not per person). The Old Testament stuff is far more history (and ancient "laws") than endorsement of owning weapons. Also, the disciples come across kind of like thugs in those, too. ;-)
  10. He says as he rubs one out.
  11. My dad started doing them when he retired. Agreed with the second part, although if it's going to be there, I prefer it is in a blob so I can excavate around it.
  12. :) (true, but Buffalo Cross-border Shoppers doesn't have a ring to it)
  13. Change "https" to "http". The doesn't (or can't) recognize SSL links.
  14. If the Raiders move to LA again, They Might Be Giants might write a song about it.
  15. I did too, but I was thinking about my wife. You better not be feeling the same disturbance!
  16. I hope that's an amateur mock-up. I'm not sure what pterodactyls (wow, spelled right the first try) have to do with Buffalo. That's fine for Rochester or some other city that doesn't have a built-in animal totem, but if there's going to be an animal it should be large, furry, and horned.
  17. I might have been enthusiastic, I should have said playoff game. If the playoff ratings last year were 2.3 million-ish, the statement works. http://www.deadline.com/2014/04/clippers-ratings-tnt-donald-sterling/ I guess it's between those two numbers.
  18. Somehow I think the NBA in SoCal is worth a bit more than the NFL in Buffalo. To paraphrase something in the ratings thread, there are probably more TVs watching a regular season Clippers game than there are TVs in Buffalo total.
  19. While Pandora doesn't have a polka channel, searching for "Beer Barrel Polka" will get a pretty good selection (and some crap that sounds like it was done on a 90s Casio, but what are you going to do). So now I have this running around: (I suppose being the most racy polka I've heard, it may be NSFW)
  20. Don't you mean Freedom Egg then?
  21. If Zweigel doesn't make Wegman's dogs, someone is doing a very, very, accurate copy.
  22. Or it could be that kids with the reflexes and athletic ability to excel at soccer end up playing the "American" sports where the money has been way better.
  23. That's pretty awesome. Maybe I'd go with the Tech-Coexist: http://geardiary.com/2010/11/29/coexist-a-shirt-for-every-os-at-woot/ And, oddly enough, I've done Penetration Testing (heh heh heh) as well, but for a commercial company. It's something I've been thinking of doing full-time.
  24. I have a friend that used to do the "catch behind your back" toss and variations all the time. Car keys, water bottles, beer cans, whatever was in his hands. He was pretty good at it. We were out one day at the Chili Fest in Ithaca. After tying one on at Benchwarmers (iirc), we moved to another bar. My friend proceeds to try this trick with a bottle of beer, and completely misses it. You should have seen the look on the bar staff's faces. CC companies take 1-3% of the transaction fee off the top. Some businesses don't like giving away money. I'll admit I'm annoyed by it, but I can respect their reasons for doing it.
