  1. It would make sense to start at 5 or so, but I don't know how you fill up the rest of the time. Starting at 5, if the #4 team is announced that means someone made a big jump forward and people get excited because they don't know who and won't until it's announced. Of course, if they put more spots in play in the future it'll be more exciting with this format.
  2. And another, Cary, named after the star of Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
  3. Not new thread worthy. :)
  4. As seen in countless Facebook memes: If Hobby Lobby were citing Sharia Law as the basis for this case, most of people defending the decision would be flipping the ###### out.
  5. This is exactly what he should have been for *this* team of young players. I wasn't nearly as down on him as others either, he made the best of what he had. I don't mind Cody Mc, but no one is going to think twice about doing something that requires answering the bell to him.
  6. Heh, DK's "Holiday in Cambodia" as the lead-in music.
  7. It's just a little Canada day fun, eh? (I heard he was released this morning, so it sounds like a "go home Claude, you're drunk" arrest)
  8. Nope, cap hit is cap hit. total money/years. What you might be thinking is cap recapture, which involves contracts that end after the player is 35 and are front loaded (more money early). In that case, if the player retires before the end of the contract, the team that gained the benefit (paid more than the cap hit) in penalized.
  9. Bataglia signed him.
  10. Sweet Jeebus, these all seem like good moves with reasonable (if a little over) payments. I don't know how to fit this into the "Everyone hates Buffalo" framework. Oh wait, yes I can: the league is slipping these guys money to make sure Buffalo finishes at #4 and misses out on McDavid/Eichel. Order restored in my head.
  11. Nah, he's washed up. Tavares.
  12. Rival is a stretch for the Sabres and anyone for the next few years. Maybe they figure by time the Sabres are good enough to be a problem, he'll be gone.
  13. And when people start tweeting that it's a bad idea. "I'm just presenting another idea."
  14. I've been trying to remember that guy's handle since all the board-talk started up.
  15. Hah, my wife was rolling after reading it yesterday.
  16. I'm betting there were a large number of teams that would have loved to assume Ehrhoff's current contract. $4M/yr for a good D? Sign me up. None of those teams offered up enough that would make the risk to the Sabres ($10M in recapture) worthwhile.
  17. Or without "arse". :-p (just kidding PA, we Keystoners need to stick together)
  18. Fixed. I've heard that the government will pick up the tab on those things, but that's hearsay and I won't stand behind it. The problem isn't the particulars, but the grand scheme where it's apparently OK for some employers to decide there are certain things they don't feel like covering.
  19. Well, when he had a real chance of going to Florida it's probably relief. Thought process on seeing Omark's name: Oh, yeah, that guy. What year did he play with the team again? Crap, this year? Either he made no impression or I'm getting old.
  20. So maybe I'm out of the loop: who is Major Patrick Miller? Does he have some sort of connection with the Sabres?
  21. Can someone refresh my high School Civics: let's say the public was really, really against this decision. I don't think Congress can make a law to change it, right? It'd have to be another SCOTUS decision or perhaps a Constitutional Amendment, right?
  22. I feel like this is an important topic, so I'll chime in on various things brought up. I'll often post things that get no response. I figure either the point wasn't very good or my logic was so unassailable that there was no point in discussing it further. Please let me think it's the former. I suppose if you're a new person that might seem cold. Grammar police: if I see a poorly worded (or spelt) post, I know that I discount the opinion somewhat. I probably miss out on some good things, but really this is fun-time and I'm not going to force myself to do unpleasant reading. I do make an exception for our few international posters, of course. There/their/they're (and with the Buffalo accent, I'm surprised we don't get more "dare"), however, drives me up a wall. To be honest, I think that's the way of the world so being able to coherently express yourself in writing is more important than having your feelings hurt on the internet. I rarely correct anyone on here, but I hope anyone that sees issues in my posts speaks up and corrects me. I need to learn as much as anyone. Threads: I like fewer threads because I'm going to read everything and it reduces the number of duplicates. The worst was when every. single. thread. inevitably ended up discussing how much Darcy/Lindy sucked and you had to read nearly the same post from probably the same poster in 4 different places, and then *HAD* to respond to clear up their misconceptions. ;) Fewer threads seem to reduce that tendency. I like the culture of this place, it's intelligent and usually reasonable as long as you don't post something ridiculous.
