  1. As a frequent international traveler on two airlines, the zones are created to reward frequent travel, orderly boarding process be damned. Zone 1 being first/business class, Zone 2 being the top frequent flier rank, and so on. I know on American Airlines, the non-frequent fliers and credit card holders start at Boarding Group 5, and it goes back to 7 or 8. Living in a city that's an American hub, even though I board in Group 4, I almost always get screwed with overhead space, as probably 25-30% of the plane is Group 2-4. I like to sit near the front of the plane, but by the time I board, the majority of the front bins are taken because those people boarding before me that are seated in the middle/back of the plane have left their carry-on's in the front of the plane. This pisses me off to no end. I flew to Las Vegas last month, was seated in row 7, yet my carry-on was in row 12.
  2. Yeah, but the Checkers are loaded. He's playing on the 4th line with two other rookies.
  3. 2006 playoffs, I was living here in NC, just graduated from college and drove the 90 minutes or so to see the games in Raleigh. The giveaway for one of them was glass tumblers. I was in the stands, alone, in a old school Hawerchuk jersey, surrounded by Canes fans. Most of my section was pretty nice. We had good banter back and forth, but it was all good natured. On the way to my car after the game, a group of Canes fans started chucking the glasses at anyone they could find in Sabres gear. I dodged a few of them sent my way and ran as fast as I could to my car.
  4. I remember those playoff games vs. the Boston. My dad and I had season tickets in the Oranges, behind the goal. We were there in 87-88, I was 7. There was all kinds of craziness during the playoff games. I remember one year vs. the Habs, someone made an effigy of Russ Courtnall and was swinging it down from the oranges in a noose. A Whalers game where a drunken Whalers fan starting pissing on the Sabres fans seated in front of him. My dad used to question whether or not it was a good idea to bring a kid to games like that, but those are the best memories I have from my childhood.
  5. This has nothing to do with suits, but dress shoes. Where can you find a good selection of wide dress shoes? Up to now, I've just shopped online, but I have some new orthotics that won't fit in pretty much anything I'm trying. I've tried some chain stores near me (Charlotte, NC), but no luck. Anyone else with a similar problem?
  6. We've had our board for a year now, and have already switched management companies once. The board keeps trying to fine me for having a trailer parked outside overnight that isn't mine. I keep telling them that and then the next time the guy across the street leaves it out overnight, I get a letter. It's just a pain in the ass and a waste of my time to keep calling the management company to complain about stupid crap like this. I could go on with other issues, but I won't.
  7. HOAs are horrible. We considering moving just because of how much we can't stand ours.
  8. I wanted to get more exercise, so I joined an adult rec soccer league with some friends. With about 3 minutes left in our first game Tuesday night, I tore the plantar fascia ligament in my left foot. Four to six weeks on the sidelines, and the season is only four weeks long.
  9. Why is divorce so expensive? Because it's worth it.
  10. From a marketing standpoint, which ever club lands him will cash in. I think it'll be Liverpool, since they have an American ownership group and understand the appeal having the top US player would bring stateside. The interesting question though is if he wants that on his shoulders. Going to a club like Bayern or Madrid would give him a better shot at silverware every year (and the Champions League). As far as his development is concerned, there is no question the best place for him right now is Dortmund. He should feature even more this year than past, as now Schurrle and Yarmolenko are gone. Starting out wide is his job to lose and he'll be expected to be one of the guys carrying the load with Reus, Gotze, Kagawa... A great position for an almost-20 year old to be in. And, if he can live up to the hype, he'll be worth even more next year.
  11. Can't say I really support either club, but getting to see him play live was worth the price of admission ($70 x 3). Took two of my boys and they had a blast.
  12. Just saw Davies to Bayern for 13M Euros plus add-ons.
  13. Saw Pulisic in person Sunday when Dortmund played Liverpool here in Charlotte. He only played the 2nd half, but every time he touched the ball it was electric. He was matched against Moreno and Klavan for Liverpool, who aren't great, but they're better than most of the guys who were playing in this exhibition game and at least have legitimate PL experience. The sky's the limit for him.
  14. Kyle Turris' wife pretty much just confirmed it's true - https://twitter.com/julieturris/status/1006649117915824128
  15. I was really impressed with the forecheck... two guys, wreaking havoc on the opposing defence, with the third forward waiting near the blue line to intercept a bad pass. Even the defence played much higher and tighter, putting 3 players in the neutral zone. I haven't seen a game on tv or in person in a very long time where the speed of the game was that fast. It was non-stop, almost playoffesque. The Checkers aren't a bad team, either. They have some injury problems, but their defence is made up of veterans, and for the most part, they had trouble handling the pressure. I'm not sure what happened on Sunday, or what was the difference, as I couldn't go, but I came away really impressed with what I saw Saturday night.
  16. I went to Saturday night's game here in Charlotte. Took my 9 year old son to his first game, and it was my first, live and in-person, in over two years, because, well, life. Anyhoo... it was a great game. A few thoughts: - Crisco-Griffith-Smith were by far the best line on the ice. Crazy speed, pretty passing. Really fun to watch. - Wilcox was strong in goal. Sorry not to have seen Linus, but Wilcox made some big stops. - The Amerks forecheck was intense, pretty much all night. The pressured the Checkers D and created many turnovers. I haven't seen a team play with that strong of a forecheck and that much pressure on the puck carrier in a long time. Do they always play that way? - On the flip side, when players stop moving their feet in the neutral zone, odd man rushes and chances are given up the other way. The two most guilty at this? Bailey and Nylander. - Nylander-Bailey-Malone played well in the first period, then were awful the rest of the game (outside of Malone). I kinda felt bad for Malone on a few shifts, as he has 1/2 the skill of his linemates, but worked his tail off. The other two seemed to coast after the first period. I was even more surprised that Nylander tried to play a physical game, whereas Bailey played with occasional speed, but stayed on the perimeter. - The only time Charlotte had sustained pressure was against the Bailey-Nylander-Malone trio - The 4th line (Cornel-Ross-?) was the 2nd best line of the night; many chances, lots of pressure - Thought Fasching played well, despite not getting any points... very physical in the corners - On defence you can tell there's lots of veterans. Guhle is quick, but made a number of high risk-high reward passes. Liked his game overall.
  17. Haven't changed my name since I joined in 2005. No better time to do so than now.
  18. Yup, I'm around. Not as much as I used to be, but I'm around. Dealing with non-existent biological fathers is my hobby
  19. Was able to bring my 12 year old step daughter home from the pediatric psych ward today. She'd been there since Monday. We're looking forward to getting her some needed help in dealing with some issues she keeps carrying around with her regarding her biological father who took off when she was 3. I've been with her for 6 years now, so I'm "dad," but I understand her feelings when she sees me interact with her 3 year old sister. I'd love to adopt her and make it official, but we don't have the extra $5,000 laying around that we keep getting quoted from various attorneys. She'll also begin an online middle school that is now offered in our county, which will eliminate all of the problems with bullying she's experienced since starting 6th grade. I'm glad to have these options available now, which weren't possible just a few years ago.
  20. There's two different ways to do business with Nationwide - via the agents or Nationwide Direct. Nationwide royally pissed me off after my wreck in January, and I swore I'd change, but I can't find anyone that comes remotely close to what we pay for 3 cars + a 16 year old driver ($305/mo.) via Nationwide Direct. When I started with Nationwide Direct 3 years ago, they were by far the cheapest and still are. Closest I can come to is around $500/mo. I don't have an agent I can go to if something goes wrong, instead I deal with a call center, but in 8 years with my previous company (Erie), I never dealt with the agent once, so no big loss IMO. If that's not an option since you're already an account holder, I definitely recommend an independent agent. I worked with one for a few years in college and was amazed at some of the lower rates available vs. the big companies.
  21. I haven’t watched this team play in almost two years. Between being busy with 5 kids, and crappy on ice product, I just don’t care. I follow along, read the box scores online, recaps from TBN, and I’m so sick of seeing “we just weren’t prepared” or “I’ve got to be better.” Eff this team and organization. When they start playing like they give a then maybe I’ll tune back in. Til then, eff them.
  22. One of the sales managers I work with is a complete hot headed loon. He should have been fired at least twice already, but my boss keeps stringing him along. I could spend hours detailing how unprofessional and childish he is, but it's not worth my time to type it out. He's pissed now because he's not included in "senior level" meetings about operations, web redesign, etc. There are 9 people in our company. He's a sales guy, who fashions himself as a boss and doesn't want to sell. So the owner of the company (who I report to), told him that yesterday... "I don't want your ideas on the new website, I want you to sell." After insulting him about how he only cares about money, he still wasn't fired. Now he has "some closed minds deserve a closed fist" written on the whiteboard in his office. Just fire his ass already so I can hire someone new to take over! I'm so sick of his crap.
  23. Agree 110%. Arsene should have left after winning the FA Cup, but instead? More of the same. No way in hell Alexis or Ozil will stay (although I'm pretty "meh" about Ozil). Build a statue to the guy, for what he did in the past, but he's been out of touch for years now. How do you keep your top two summer signings on the bench vs. Liverpool? Let's play Ox when he's openly angling for a move. Ship him out and get it over with. So frustrating.
  24. 1 - Enroth 2 - Horton 3 - Grant Ledyard 4 - Warrener 5 - Ramsey
  25. Atlanta United, the MLS club, plays there as well.
