  1. Past hour
  2. On a side not but related....sometimes the networks take it too far. About 7 or 8 years ago the Indy500 was on TV and I was watching. Like it often happens, 2 cars were fighting for the lead with only a few laps left, swapping the lead ever 1/2 to lap. Some geniuses decided to not even do 'split screen', but to put 2 pictures on the broadcast....one in the upper corner, one in the lower corner. So what you ended up seeing was some empty space and each picture was only 1/3 the size of the screen. What was the split screen for? Well, if you wanted to watch the last couple laps, the cars fighting for the lead, it was now in the upper left corner of the screen, maybe taking up 30% of the screen. The other view? Close up of the faces of the wives, with their hands covering their mout looking nervous. Auto racing is famous for that. I don't remember if its worse on the Indycar broadcasts, Nascar, or F1, but on occasion they will show you the winner cross the line, and there are other cars still finishing the race, still fighting for position. But nope, the Camera cuts to the wife/girfriend of the winning drive so we can all see how happy SHE is. Doesn't matter if your favorite driver was in the middle of a pack fighting for a top 10 finish that may move them up or down in the standings. Gotta show everyone how happy the wife is 3 seconds after the winner crosses the line. I get it pre race or post race. I don't like it but I get it. But when a big race is on the last lap or finishing, no one is being 'drawn into' the broadcast at that moment for much other than to see who wins and how they do it.
  3. No idea what this poll is about...so...while i like polls, I can't vote honestly.
  4. That’s correct, not in college and not in the pros. Until he learns to actually use his size to his advantage in the D zone and that includes clearing the front of the net, knocking people off the puck etc, he is a waste. He is being paid top $ to be effective at both ends of the ice and really only does half the job. To justify his compensation for just his O output, he needs to be a 70 pts player and his O skills aren’t good enough for that either.
  5. That doesn't make him better in his own zone. Just a partner to try and cover for his shortcomings.
  6. There was a time when I went to all the prospects games. Now I look at the roster and don't even recognize 1/3 of the names. Being indifferent to your team sucks.
  7. Yesterday
  8. Now you're arguing semantics. Power has never NEVER played heavy or physical.
  9. It's the same goal as the Olympics vignettes or the Indy 500 Delta Force theme intros. The human story can be as compelling as the sporting story.
  10. Or, Kaprizov is willing to take a less to play for a franchise/location of his choice. This will be especially true with McDavid. If it's about the money, wait until UFA and tell Chicago "I'm thinking of a number, but it starts with twenty." Chicago realizes they're a few years away, but... why not? And it's up to Edmonton to match. But if it's about winning or location, McDavid can easily find a willing team near $14 that will still keep a core intact. Say... Tampa. Florida (if they can find a goalie for the post-Bob contract).
  11. If he finally has a partner who is stay at home and reliable he will have a chance. He hasn’t had that in his career yet
  12. https://apnews.com/article/nato-poland-russia-ukraine-drones-article4-658921ca98eff77e39345041ba0900a3 Poland and the rest of Europe understand their history and won’t wait until Russia is at their borders. Phuck around and find out, Putin.

  13. If he pushes for shorter term, I still think he would get that done before the start of the season. So that lessens the risk of that serious injury. What really are the chances of that injury though? I feel like we haven’t seen many of those career threateners at all during recent years. Maybe something minor pops up that costs him a million or two, but that long term ability to make a ton of money will remain. I’m not so sure it’s a serious risk.
  14. Ya I assume its he wants to play somewhere else, which if he does man that would kill Minny. They would have to at least take the Rantanen example and trade him mid season to re-tool I think McDavid signs soon, and truthfully I think he would go long term Kaprizov is a risk cause he has been hurt recently and if that happens in his contract year that could cost him tens of millions of dollars
  15. It does seem like a reasonable risk to take when you’re talking about $16+ million a year. I wouldn’t be surprised if McDavid winds up doing that if he actually re-signs with Edmonton.
  16. I'll take a player who is relentless. He's not shown that ability and so muscle won't help him succeed. Now, if the muscle gives him the confidence to have success in adding a relentless quality to his game.. great.
  17. Assuming he doesn't have a career changing injury during said "shorter term deal". Other possibility...looking to play in major glamour markets.
  18. A shorter term deal and then even more money 3-4 years later?
  19. This is insane if true, I mean how much does he think he is gonna get???
  20. I’m with you on all that. I have some hope but when we are hinging team success on things like Benson breaking out, Kesselring offsetting Power’s timidity, so on I get worried.
  21. Unlike most other people.. I don't really need him to be physical at all to be happy with his play. If he scores 10 to 15 goals... Gets 30 to 40 assists... And most importantly uses his size and reach to get to loose pucks and get them out of the zone before the opponents can get to him... Then I don't need him to be physical. In a way... Him learning to use his reach to clog up passing Lanes and to reach loose pucks and tip them away from the defender more effectively than a smaller guy does.. That's a form of using his size in a way I would accept. All things being equal it will be great if he would be physical and hit more, but if he does the other things and uses his size positionally, he can be an effective two-way defenseman without it.
  22. I am most definitely cynical and apathetic. I don't know why everybody isn't? They did very little. They may even have gotten worse. They certainly didn't get better. Adams is still here. It's a ridiculous franchise that is breaking my heart. You post this after insulting me for saying Montreal has passed us and has a better GM and mocking the idea of them making the playoffs. Nice.
  23. Hear, hear. I was just confused over Liger's call for Power to be "mean." I've used the metaphor of a crease-clearing gorilla before. I've stuck with it because I just dig it. I think it's the combination of crease clearing (alliteration) and an inherently fun word gorilla. Anyhoo. Power's never gonna be mean. Maybe in flashes, here or there. But he's not gonna become a mean, nasty mofo. Set aside the example of an all-world player like Lidstrom. Can Power just be stout and tough in his own end like Billy Hajt was?
