Back in the day didn’t the Sabres have a “skating coach” to help players lacking in that regard?

The Hopium Den: 10 reasons why the Sabres could be better this year

The PDOcast (excellent hockey nerd pod) raving over Benson this morning in their annual preseason “Our Guys” edition, which is basically their take on players poised to show the hockey world how good they are. Fantastic quote on Benson’s size and points production as a teenager leading to terribly superficial and poorly informed hockey takes about his ability. ”It’s like catnip for the guys with the worst takes on hockey you know.” They call Bensons game an “endless loop of winning battles…and making good things happen out of thin air.” I’ve rarely heard such a gushing take on a Sabre player anywhere, let alone from national analysts. Filipovic says his skill set is “made in a lab” to complement a guy like Thompson, with his ability to defend, and get the puck to high-danger areas. Drance called him the most obvious breakout candidate in the NHL. -
Why can't Paul Hamilton say the name Helenius?

Generally, no. However, as a society we've built into our nature to focus on the negatives. Why do people like gladiator events? It's not for the charming kick-lines. We love violence. We crave it. As long as that's true tapping into the violent nature of people will not be hard to do. We also love power. And the promise of power or the use of power to dominate others remains a significant issue. There are rare cultures in history who didn't seek violence and desired to live in balance. -

When do we find out draft order?

I think the problem is that this team would be sunk if they lost ANY of those 3 players (or Dahlin) for a long stretch of time. - Today

Good thing those three guys aren't really injury prone. -
So I am not actually going to disagree here because of something that you alluded too... the only reason I see not to extend him is if those sweeping changes involve new GM, POHO and a tear down of the team... like literally a complete tear down... Dahlin Thompson Power etc... like you accept you are going to trade those guys for assets and start all over again... the philosophy "you lost consistently with them, you certainly can lose without them:...." Not being a proponent of the complete tear down (definitely am a proponent of blow up the FO) I do not want to see this happen... we have already lost one generational player via trade and one Bona fide Superstar in Reinhardt cause we didnt extend him... so to me if you believe this core has any value you have go to extend him... if not and you wanna see em all outta here then... I get where you are at....
-
I don’t believe a word of anything KA says publicly, so I don’t give that any value at all when deciding if Bryson lacks fire.
-
Levi didn't give up a goal in preseason, so he was the best goalie.... We should probably just be happy we don't have four on the roster.

a return to the 3-goalie platoon is a new level of forehead smacking WTF for this regime. w.t.f.

Metsa is also only 11 months younger than Bryson. He stuck around college longer than Bryson and was a 5th year COVID senior when he won that championship. The idea floating around in here that they might be very similar players, I think there’s some merit to that. One just happens to have 254 more NHL games under his belt than the other.

Taken same year as Power, who got 7x$8.3M Hughes has 93 points in 155 career games, -34 with 44 hits and a 54% shot share Power has 111 points in 242 career games, +8 with 99 hits and a 52% shot share
-
True to a certain extent. But KA implies he willingly accepts the position. He didn't have to sign here again knowing what his role would be... it's like he's comfortable sitting. That, to me at least, suggests a lack of fire

Teams are mistaken checking and battle for hits stuff and punches. -
Being a good soldier is an essential part of being a good leader.

Good to know! I just assumed he wasn't leadership material based on KA's insistence that he is fine with sitting for stretches.

The Bruins are very much leaning into this. They know they don't have enough skill, so they're trying to forge a path with brawn and defence. -

I like the forward lines Benson comes back in and Krebs moves back to Danforths spot then when Greenway comes back he takes one of the 4th line wing spots and the other is between Beck and Geertsen and honestly I’m fine with Beck sitting for Geertsen most games, Beck is a good hitter and forechecker but he doesn’t fight at all, and we will need the fighting honestly watching the pre season so far there has been so many fights! And teams are loading up on big tough players, the Florida effect if you will -
Let me put it another way. How many 5’9” defenseman do we want? Metsa may be a better player and better leader (idk) but at the end of the day NHL defenseman are rarely that size without an elite offensive talent. Like they wouldn’t even sniff the AHL because they’d score 2+ PPG. It’s why the Bryson signing was so maddening. Having more than one mighty mite in the org essentially dooms one of them into permanent AHL status. Just a moronic signing the second the ink dried.
