I understand the difficulty of the position we are in. Long standing acrimony and failure etc.... but you start by getting a FO that is capable and decorated and you begin by drafting and retaining your stars... the Eichels and Reinhardts and Montours... A dream that will never happen.... just not true... Edmonton doesn't have palm trees but they attract players and they went thru am abyss themselves... the Bills went thru it for 20 years... but they gained a competent FO and built around their stars... people come here for less money than they would get to go elsewhere and they play outside. Green Bay would tell you the same thing... bottom line i get your lament and recognize the difficulty but this isn't about palm trees and taxes it's about culture and there is nothing wrong with Buffalo it's a great place to live for some.... LA NYC I would literally never want to live there not my style but to be sure its other peoples... different players would like different settings some love buffalo and stay ... Thomas Kelly Martin Ray Barnaby Hajt etc.. etc... others dont and leave... but to go anyplace to win and get paid well I dont think they care the city they do it in as long as they win... and if that is not their goal i dont want them

I think between Byram and Timmins you are looking at a minimum of $10M. If they trade Byram I think the salary returned will be close to what he would get awarded but time will tell.

They want to win, yes but I bet they all tell you deep down they know every year there are only a few teams that can win the Cup - money comes first with a shot at a Cup very close 2nd. You're right tho they definitely do not want to go to a dysfunctional franchise. It could be located in a tax free oasis if they are terrible they’ll look to go somewhere else. They also get taxed in the state they play in. They may be able to like elsewhere where but it doesn’t matter. Plus, they do have to live in the city area they play for at minimum 6 months a year. And that’s their home all year if they have families.

I will be surprised if he’s traded. I think the Sabres have chosen this path because they’ve seen the offers and they are legitimately not interested in them. If teams weren’t willing to up their offers before, this process isn’t likely to change their minds. I just hope Buffalo is legitimately keeping him because he’s their best chance to win, and they still intend to pull the trigger on another forward.

Just because Kevyn Adams was dumb enough to overpay power, doesn't mean he should overpay Byram. I think Byram is open to staying but the issue is he's not a 9 million defender. 7, sure, 8, no. 9, hell no.

I Google news on the Sabres and all these zero rumors pop up daily. Trading him for draft picks. Still talking about the offer sheet after the move to basically block it. So much junk. Just have to wait but who really knows what Byram is asking and what is being offered in a player or players. Throw in some other guys I won't miss like Muel and many more.

I respectfully but strenuously disagree with you. The Sabres have become a ghetto franchise scorned by many players because of its own systematic malfeasance in operating a franchise. Players are competitive and want to win. It's not the total reason why they want to go to a particular franchise but it is a factor. I would also say that the majority of players in all sports have homes that are not in the city that they play in. You can't hide this franchise's record. It's known to all.

That's a good plan in case you want to upgrade for a playoff push. Peterka's O will be missed but Kesselring will really help on the back end.

I just don’t think it’s Terry’s unwillingness to spend. I continue to believe the hatred these guys have of taxes across all 4 major sports is grossly underestimated. KA wasn’t wrong. You just can’t say it out loud. You need to prop up why you want to spend the next 7-8 years of your life in Buffalo. Starting with the fans. There will be no better city in America to win a major championship right now than Buffalo. Not one.

I think we're simpatico in that they've handled nearly every - I'll call them attempts, so poorly. I really think the theory behind most of the attempts, I agreed with. The execution, no no no. We're in a bind and IMO, spending has to become the first step towards turning this around. There's no chance, IMO, if that doesn't happen. Then huge amounts of luck are needed, IMO. We're not that bad of a team, again IMO. However this being easy breezy, build it and they will come, is not reality.

In fairness, you don't often hear Adams described that way. (Usually) context helps tremendously. In this instance, not so much.

Sometimes as a Sabre fan you feel boxed in. You go with what you got. No other choice. In a way, I don't want KA to get too exotic when making moves because he would be acting beyond his capacity. Sticking with the basics is the right course of action for him. No fancy French or Italian food on his plate. Simple meat and potatoes with a domestic beer.
