Power is still young for a defenseman. Ekblad, also a #1 pick, put up just 21 points and was a -23 in his third full season.

The Bills were like that 2/3rds of the existence . LOL. I'm an old guy who was born into a Bills season ticket family. 1 win in 1968 and 1971. I sat through many seasons where winning a home game came as a shock.

Are the Sabres profitable? I really don't know. If they can be this bad for this long and still be profitable, what does that say about the management of the team? Do they have a huge incentive to win and make the playoffs? I understand that Terry Pegula has a lot on his plate with his wife's health, his daughters and their lives, the Bills, his other businesses, etc. I don't think he is a bad man. I just think he should hire the right people to run the Sabres so that he can focus elsewhere. And if he doesn't (he hasn't yet obviously), he needs to keep trying until he gets the right person(s).

Completely disagree. you give 25 NHL mgmt teams / owners Dahlin, Eichel, Reinhart and Thompson (not to mention Ullmark) and they turn that into a legit contender for playoffs every year. At least 10, turn them into cup contenders.

https://www.nhltraderumors.me/2025/06/nhl-trade-rumors-canucks-have-price-tag.html Quinn for Demko then send UPL somewhere else? I desperately want them to bring in a different starting goalie.

You are having a good time mocking me. It’s apparent to all that I’m out of step and out of tune. True story: In grammar school at graduation my malicious music teacher told me not to sing at the ceremony but to just mouth the words and fake singing. 😀
-
Maybe, I was just looking at the transactions pages from the NHL.

Hit the nail on the head... but you knew that as soon as 7-6-13 gave you the old eye roll LOL ... validation for sure lol 😆

There is no band Internal Disgruntlement. I was joking. I mean, maybe there is, but they certainly don’t have 3 albums. I mean, maybe they do, but the third one certainly isn’t a masterpiece. I mean, maybe it is, but I’ve never heard it.

Ecklund has Byrum being traded to Philadelphia. Not sure what they have that we might want. Of course it’s Ecklund so it’s not likely to happen.
-
I thought Brännström signed in Switzerland?
-
I certainly wouldn’t

The fun of being a Sabres fan: -NHL player transactions (trades, signings, extensions, etc): In the past week, 26 of them. 0 from the Sabres. -Since June 1 (last 3 weeks). NHL total transactions, 57 of them (mostly re-signings, a few trades). 0 from the Sabres. -Since the beginning of May, there is ONE Sabres player transaction, Signing D Erik Brannstrom to a three-year contract. The rest of the NHL well over 100. I mean, I'm not a person to say make a move the the sake of it, but there really isn't much to talk about here lately. You would think the team that has the longest playoff drought would be one of them that would be wanting to make the most moves to change things.

His partner is on a different team. Send him there. Because he’s gettin traded
-
Ya Rangers the deal all day is Schneider and Cuylle and I’d even add if they wanted to get that
-
K Miller isn’t good; I’ll yell it from the tallest building if I must. Chad D compared him to Muel saying he’s just going to be a higher paid Muel. Plus based on Rangers fans history; they aren’t exactly fond of his performance. Plus they actually are willing to trade him which obviously is a reason not to acquire him. After all anything of any value is off limits to Ranger Fans As mentioned, Cirelli’s NTC kicks in July 1st I have no interest in trading a Top 6 winger with potential for a goalie coming off a serious injury with 1 year left on his deal.
-
This was not a rumor. It was two guys in a podcast talking about what the Sabres should do with him.

and as such the building is far from full isn't it? Merchandise sales? I imagine Sabres are near league bottom. Playoff revenue? They got none. The league can market just about anything but if your players are just there for the money you have a problem. There's that whole culture thing that I talk about too much and others bring up now and again but if your team culture isn't all about winning and hating to lose then you end up with a bunch of lazy mercenaries who have a good time and go home early in the summer. The term used here has been country club attitude. That becomes the culture and makes the team okay with losing. It's not what you want, and it's hard to change once it's taken hold.

Rangers make so much sense, there is just so many pieces there that would be good tampa does too cause Cirelli no move isn’t untill July 1

https://clutchpoints.com/nhl/buffalo-sabres/sabres-rumors-insider-links-5-teams-jj-peterka Chicago, NYI, NYR, TB and Van I doubt we trade him (and I don't think we should), but lets see who actually has something to offer. 1) TB - Hagel (27 in Aug) has no trade protection and 7 years left at 6.5. I doubt TB is making him available. Cirelli has an NTC. Cernak is already 28 and has a NTC. I don't see any fit here 2) NYI - Romanov and Dobson are certainly of interest and are RFAs. I don't see any forwards of interest who don't have trade protection. Not real interested in Barzal (28) at 9.5 for 7 more years coming off 20 pts in 30 games. 3) NYR - I have no interest in Lafreniere. Miller is to old. I have interest in K'Andre Miller, Soucy and Borgen on defense, but not for JJP. Cuylie is of interest, but is an RFA and isn't as good a player as JJP. Miller and Cuylie for JJP? Maybe? 4) Van - I have no interest in Pettersson and his bad knees. We already have Norris. I have some interest in Hronek, but he has a NMC. Garland is a solid 2nd 3rd line winger but is 29. Demko for JJP is some deal might hold some interest. 5) Chicago - They just moved Burakovsky. Nazar is interesting but we already have Benson. I'd love to get Vlasic, but they aren't moving him. The NYI or NYR look like the best trade partners unless we get Demko from Vancouver.

For the cap, no. Because while stuff like this is pretty easily determined, you can get gray REALLY quickly and once you start trying to say well THIS counts against the cap but THAT doesn't, you get counter examples that look similar to A but were treated like B and it likely ends up ugly. Way easier to just say, we'll figure it out at the end of the season provided you don't have more potentially earnable performance bonus money in total than is allowable and we'll figure that out when you submit the contract to the league for approval. For escrow, yes. So that 20 game bonus will be likely be factored into the escrow calculations pretty early in the season whereas the SC bonus won't factor in at all as all regular salary will have been earned or expected to be earned by the time the last escrow estimate is made. And ALL of that will get factored into the final disbursement back to the players (or from them if the calculations were REALLY off) next summer.

What, If Anything, Gives You Hope For Next Season?
LabattBlue replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
A new #1 goalie would at least put us on the road to “hope”. It would be another blunder in a series of 14 year blunders to enter training camp with UPL/Levi/and a washed aging vet(Anderson, Riemer, etc…). -

This is his standard/closest I can find: “I actually like the right side a lot,” Dahlin said, eliciting images of Red Wings great Nicklas Lidstrom. “I can play both, so it doesn’t matter.” (i could swear a few years ago I read something about him liking the right on O specifically and the left while on D, but can’t find it for life of me) So it’s not an obstacle - he can play either side. I’ll see if I can find the deep dive here it is, slightly better on left: Great article “Lastly, in Dahlin’s case, he experienced a relative xGF uptick playing on his natural side. That said, he was so proficient on his off-hand that he was the logical choice to handle the lion’s share of off-hand duties in 2022-23. Again, a testament to the coaching staff (and likely the analytics staff) for handling things the way they did in that regard.” could have changed slightly since then. I think the main takeaway is Dahlin can play either side so it shouldn’t limit any incoming transaction

My problem with the Ruff selection as HC isn't directed toward Ruff being selected as it is to the nonexistent/fraudulent process used to hire him. It was another Pegula whimsical hire. Is he a good HC at this stage of his respectable career? I don't know. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt right now. He inherited a team that wasn't smartly assembled and was required to take on the coaches already on staff. It was a third-rate hiring process by a third-rate Pegula organization. I look at the members of the blueline unit that you listed. If you are able to parlay Byram plus assets to add another good second pairing caliber blueliner, you have a respectable group that will be even better if the forwards learn to play a more responsible two-way game. In my assessment, I'm expecting Power and Samuelsson to be better. Also, the Docker acquisition is a credible lower pairing add on to that unit. Few people would rate it as a high-end group but it can be a better than respectable unit. Some smart tweaking can better round out that unit.
