  2. Education. He started a library science masters but couldn't handle the database course so he switched to education and worked a few years as a music teacher. He was okay with the kids but wasn't crazy about dealing with the administration so he decided to get out of education. His wife has degrees in IT and finance (also a crazy combination) and she helped him take some free online classes that got him going toward data analytics. He pretty quickly got past the level she could understand, but he was able to do it okay. He got a text this morning that said, "Evaluation - Completed: Congratulations! You have completed NKM2 Task 3: Presentation of Findings." That was his last course. They said he'd receive his diploma within a week and a half. The whole degree was online through Western Governors University. (I looked into them a bit and they are accredited and legit.)
  3. As @Archie Lee pointed out, I think there are 3 holdovers worth keeping; Dahlin, Power (or Byram, but not both) & JBD. 1a) I like Gavrikov, but think he'll re-sign where he is. 1b) Trade for K'Andre Miller. A big physical LHD with decent offense. I'd think he'd thrive playing with Dahlin. Capwages estimates 6 for 6. I'd so that in a minute. I think his game has another level and playing with Dahlin will get him there. Allows Dahlin to play the right side where Dahlin is more comfortable. 2a) I'd go after Orlov. He's a UFA & L/R D. A solid two D and still playing 20 minutes a night. At 34, his career is on the downside, but he's still at 25 pt guys and still takes the body. I think he'd be a great fit with Power and a mentor for our two young Russian D. Also has a Cup and 104 games of playoff experience. Capwages estimate is 3 for 5.8. A little steep, but this end up being our best option if he's interested. 3a) Sign Perbix from TB - RHD physical D with some scoring. A think he's an upgrade on JBD. 3b) Trade for Carson Soucy from the Rags. 1 year left at 3.25 (but has an NTC). 4a) Veteran Depth Jan Rutta. I think this group needs a proven mentor who can still play. Rutta is that kind of player.
  4. I'd love to understand the reasoning of the logic you're running with here. Is it rock/paper/scissors or something, Florida beats Carolina beats Buffalo beats Florida?
  5. That's a crazy combination of degrees. What's the first masters?
  6. If by some miracle the Sabres make the playoffs next season, I can't see this roster as currently configured as having the ability to play a physical style or match the physical style of a playoff opponent. This team is not built for playoff hockey (or even regular season success).
  7. Or your desire.
  8. Then as per usual our team is royally screwed Trading Tuch is trading practically the only player with any love for this city that isn't purely based on transactional history. Resigning at 9mil is overpay at the Nth degree for a 30 year old God forbid I ever see my team be good and have players I like

  10. My son was just notified that he's successfully completed the last course for his master's degree in data analytics. This is a guy who started out severely speech delayed, was in special ed in elementary school but by high school was taking AP classes. He has a BA in music and this is his second master's degree. I'm pretty impressed by the things he accomplishes.
  11. Dahlin was a Norris calibre defenceman playing with Bowen Byram.
  12. Can you change the title to represent what you are bringing up?
  13. Hoping Sammy isn't too injured.
  14. Timo Maier signed two years ago for 8X$8.8M coming off a 66-point season. I don't think your offer is going to get it done.
  15. I would have believed much more in this curse if Terry Pegula had bought the team in 1976. Honestly, I am not sure that there is any curse worse than one Terrance Pegula. In fact, if they reshot Angels in the Outfield but made it about the Pegula lead Sabres, we would STILL miss the playoffs and the angels would demand a trade.
  16. Karmanos will not be islanders gm
  17. Graves makes Muel look good so God no
  18. I'm offering Tuch 5x7.689mil to start
  19. “upon closer inspection, jumping out of the window of a moving vehicle could be dangerous.”
  20. The party of law enforcement my a$$. These pukes are beyond hypocritical. https://apple.news/AjlKIik13Q_WVDhWmoleGKg
  21. The three veteran defenders that I would add, are Andersson, Ceci, and Ferraro. It’s not necessarily about being more talented as it is about being better balanced. Dahlin / Andersson Power / Ceci Ferraro / B Docker it actually would come in a little lower in salary than this past year’s group (including Jokiharju). Of course, if these D-men are available then they will be coveted by multiple teams. Also, I’m not convinced that any realistic moves will make a difference. I suspect we will continue to struggle defensively with whoever we add to the backend, so long as Ruff is HC and no new assistant is brought in to manage our d-structure.
  22. Which means... the Sabres are better than Florida! All we have to do is make the playoffs and ECF and face the Panthers and we're good to go.
  23. I’d like to see Ekblad but I think he either stays with the panthers or wants more than would be sensible. Nick Hague - Instead of Samuelson. Cam York any good? I thought he was in his 30s but turns out he’s 24. Would be interested in considering Ryan Graves from the penguins if we could get rid of Samuelson.
  24. Thus far he's stayed very healthy and he's a top-pairing guy. He won't sign here, but that's beside the point. It's summer. It's the season of miracles. If available, I take this chance. He immediately makes Dahlin a Norris-capable d-man. Buy out Muel (or put him on the 3rd pair where he belongs). It doesn't solve the lack of a partner for Power, but it gives the team an immediate top all-situations d-zone man. He'd also provide a mentor for Novikov who will make his debut next season and eventually play the same role.
  25. Tuch is such a perfect, Cinderella slipper microcosm of this failed build excellent player, great contract: no desire to win during this time Age 30 and older player, ~ double the cost: it’s go time, boys
  26. The last team the Hurricanes beat in an ECF Game was the Sabres
