GDT Sabres at Penguins 11/26/25 7pm MSG WGR550

True, but perhaps they have big egos and think more highly of their chances. It's all just speculative and maybe it's other things entirely. I mean I find myself thinking Power just isn't that interested in being a hockey player but maybe he wants to play himself off the team too. idk. The only thing I know for certain, because you see it in games, is too many of these guys take shifts or whole nights off and all too often they are too soft on plays. The inconsistencies result in losses. I mean we can even add Dahlin. Sure, great D man. Very talented. Build a franchise around him. BUT also recognize he's 4th in the league (recent stats I saw on twitter) in defensive zone giveaways. The team all too often is sloppy, undisciplined, inconsistent, and sometimes lacking in effort. Details matter, and details are killing them every year. -
Rochester played like dog poop on Wednesday and Coach Leone let them hear about it postgame. “It was honestly probably the worst game we’ve played since I’ve been the coach here,” Leone said. “We’re a team that gives up 26 shots a game. We gave up I don’t even know; it felt like 50 (officially 40).” “There’s a standard around here on how we need to play,” Leone said. “Honestly it felt like we were a PeeWee hockey team; we couldn’t pass the puck, we just had too many turnovers on (zone) exits.” https://pickinsplinters.com/2025/11/26/a-night-to-forget-for-the-amerks-it-felt-like-we-were-a-peewee-team/ Amerks back at it at home Friday hosting the Crunch, who are now in first place in the North Division. Roch two points out and tied for third.

Pickens is a UFA at season’s end and it crossed my mind that he could be a good target. Outside receiver with elite Yards per Reception. With that said, hindsight is 20:20 on your trade snark. Pickens wore out his welcome in Pitt over two years as he was criticized multiple times for lacking effort on the field. The last time was toward the end of the second season due to not run blocking and his response was he was attempting to avoid injury. I could just as easily see him crashing back down to earth with effort and process when he’s no longer in a contract year…

ESPN Thanksgiving Panic Index—Sabres

Not defending ESPN, but slightly defending the author Greg Wyshynski. He has been a great writer (formerly Yahoo & The Athletic). I enjoyed this one. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/47100079/nhl-2025-26-thanksgiving-playoffs-standings-panic-rankings-index -
When you remove ENG it’s 70 in 2025 vs 66 in 2024. Net 6 less than looking at team GA but still more. And FWIW if you look at XGA, it’s 70/64. And we know the PK is much improved, so more 5v5 goals in those numbers. Obviously it’s a 5 man effort in those numbers but still surprising. https://www.naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20242025&thruseason=20242025&stype=2&sit=all&score=all&stdoi=g&rate=n&team=BUF&pos=S&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=gpdate&fd=2024-10-01&td=2024-11-29&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL

Happy to see Samuelsson, mainly over anything staying healthy. In his rookie season the Sabres were a better more stable team on the ice. So keep it up Muel.
-
Camp was in August and I believe there were 50 some players invited

Who cares about ESPN? I'd put as much faith in its hockey reporting as I would in the reporting of Rodong Sinmun.

This was the Sabres. 😂 Existential Dread Buffalo Sabres When things went poorly for the Sabres in their first 22 games, like when they dropped eight of nine games, the reaction was "here we go again." When things go well for the Sabres, like when they won four of five games heading into Thanksgiving, the reaction was the most guarded optimism imaginable with an impending sense of doom -- which is understandable when every season since the last playoff appearance in 2011 has either been a tease or a tank. Through 22 games, Money Puck gave the Sabres a 7.5% chance of making the playoffs. But Stathletes put their odds at a robust 33.4%. There's no better example of the divergent paths ahead for this Buffalo team. If Tage Thompson continues to dominate, if Mattias Samuelsson and Rasmus Dahlin remain a bedrock duo, if they can squeeze out enough goaltending success ... maybe the drought ends? Or maybe this ends up being the 15th consecutive "wait 'til next year."
-
So they even have an actual camp? I just assumed it was nothing more than a couple attention grabbing press releases.
-
Dallas got Pickens for a 3rd and a 5th imagine if Beane didn't live in a world where wide receivers don't matter? im almost to the point of hoping they miss the playoffs, just for a chance to see the end of the Beane / McDermott era

Another reminder that young defensemen sometimes take longer to develop than most people want to be patient with.

Yeah but how much of that was due to his marfan? /s

Remember when Tyler Myers became a dominant physical? Neither does anyone else.

One additional point, if the play was SO close to being legitimately onsides that ALL of that went wrong in the evaluation of it; then the offensive team did NOT gain the type of advantage from having had the puckcarrier over the line early that the offside rule was put in place to eliminate. Again, personally am ok with carrying the puck into the zone after you have already entered the zone presuming the puck carrier is in control of the puck.
-
Again, you are looking to take away a rarely seen play because of the POSSIBILITY of questions POTENTIALLY arising from a significantly even rarer play. That doesn't make sense IMHO. Clearly YMVs. As to your 1st group of Qs. No, the play is not onsides because the puck was NOT carried into the zone by a player in possession of it before at least 1 offensive player was inside the zone. It's pretty clear / cut and dried. And then to your 2nd group of Qs. No, it is not ruled a good goal should the linesman have missed the offside and there is a challenge of the goal. In order to get to the point of the Sabres (per your example) getting screwed by that goal being deemed to have been legit, you need the linesman to miss the offside and you need those reviewing the play to miss the offside as well. Considering how rare that play is when it's cleanly played in a game, am ok with the risk that not only the puckcarrier will lose the puck before it fully crosses the blue line, the linesman is so mesmerized by the move that he doesn't realize the puckcarrier lost the puck, a goal is scored before the defending team has gotten the puck out of the zone or there was a stoppage in play, the coach and his team don't recognize that the puck was lost before it crossed into their zone OR they do recognize it but somehow none of the 4 officials nor anyone in TO reviewing the play manage to notice that it was offside. That is a LOT of things to go wrong in the evaluation of a single very unique play, any single ONE of which going RIGHT will result in no goal being scored. Am ok with those odds. My 2 cents.

This would be an interesting strategy for two bubble guys.

Can I get an, "A men!!" The needs have been pretty easy to see for all, except for the ones who can actually do something about it

Here I sit watching Jameson Williams rack up points knowing I dropped him weeks ago... Went against my gut

I don't know. Say you have a player skating backwards across the blue line with the puck. The player is in the zone but the puck is not. But before the puck crosses the player loses contact with the puck and the puck's momentum takes it over the blue line? Is that still onside? What if a goal was scored and a review was called for? Is it ruled a good goal? (We all know if the goal was scored on us, of course it would count.)
