Too soon to say. He’s 24. Has a few years before his prime. Produced 28 points last year on mostly 4th line. His defense is no liability. +/- neutral player. If he fails to generate more offense still a valuable piece given his compete and intangibles, imo Watch him interact with teammates on the bench. Kid is enthusiastic and upbeat. 80 game player last two years. Easy to see why Ruff likes him.

Not funny at all, a lot of us have thought about this very thing. Its not about what they have done up to this point, it is about what they are doing right now and going forward this year and beyond. Also, Sound defensive play and a physical game can make up for any extra offensive production. Doan scored 17 goals per 82 so far in his career, Peterka is at 23. Not to mention Peterka has played with higher quality linemates/offensive ability and with a lot more minutes on the PP. There is a case to be made that Doan will prevent MORE than 6 goals a year than JJP over the course of an 82 game season. I'm not saying Peterka is worse than Doan. JJP may very well be the better player. But in the very small sample size we have of Doan, it is worth the discussion (that is what message boards are for, right?)

A top prospect is never a "throw in." That said, it's a little early to judge his impact.

This thread is very funny. Talk about a little premature JJP, age 23, 245 gp 69g, 85a, 145 pts Doan, age 23, 68gp, 14g, 19a, 33 pts.

-I could see Doan and Peterka getting close to the same productions numbers and Doan having a better all around/physical game making him the better/more impactful player. -I could also see Doan slowing his offensive pace and getting half the goals of Peterka, even with a better 2-way game his overall impact being less than Peterka. I could see it going either way. Its too early to tell.

Completely agree, I felt in no part that Doan was a "throw in". He is the real deal. Now he will need to progress I could truly see him peaking at an Alex Tuch player. Could you get you 25-30 goals and 40 assists, being a strong PK and PP front of net player, willing to hit and forecheck and fight if needed, excellent defensively Peterka I do truly think could score 40, he probably will never has large assist numbers, a PP asset, never will play PK, more then likely always a defensive liability Both of those player are good players but I know the one I want, and its Doan

That suggests you would prefer the Sabres not make the playoffs.

I've seen this quite a bit. Idk why anyone thought of Doan as a throw in. Ik it wasn't a big talking point here but it certainly was other places including wgr. Peterka is a better shooter and a better driver if rush offense. I haven't seen enough of Doan to think he's better than JJP.

Anything that makes Pegula further believe KA is a competent NHL GM is a bad thing…a very bad thing.

Kesserling was the main piece coming back to the Sabres in the Peterka trade, but Doan is definitely more than just a throw in. For the season so far, Kesserling has not played due to injury, but Doan has been off to a good start. I was curious to see how his stats so far compare to Peterka's: Doan: 6 GP, 2 G, 3 A, 5 points, +1 Peterka: 7 GB, 2 G, 2 A, 4 points, +3 I'm not sure what's more surprising, that Doan has more points so far, in fewer games, or that Peterka has a positive plus/minus! While I have not seen Peterka play for Utah, I can say that he brought less physical play, positive attitude, tenacity, aggressiveness, defensive play, and leadership to the Sabres than Doan now does. Wouldn't it be something, if 1 for 1, Doan turns out to be a better player than Peterka, regardless of what Kesserling does? So far, I'd say that's the case. It's a long season and this is a small sample size, so I don't want to be unrealistic, but I'm interested to hear what others think. I'd also add that even if Peterka's offensive stats turn out to be better, if you take Doan's offensive stats PLUS all of the intangibles he brings to the team, could he be deemed the overall better player anyway? And then add in whatever Kesserling brings to the table, which might be quite a bit. The Sabres could end up winning this trade in a big way. Time will tell. I'm not a huge fan of Adams, but it would be a feather in his cap the Sabres win this trade.

That's a 12 year old in a halloween costume. Has to be.

If he is “promoted”, he will still be in Terry’s ear. Just kick him to the curb…gone forever.

I feel like too much flux is probably not necessarily a good thing. There's a lot of pieces, signed for long periods of time, that have not gelled or succeeded for any number of reasons. If I'm firing the GM, the coach, the scouts and cleaning house, do i really trade the players who signed on to be here? To me it comes down to spending - if you can get to tell the new GM/coach combo that we are absolutely going for it - do you automatically dump players? I'd probably wait until free agency before I'd move anyone of value. We usually miss in free agency, but who knows? There's still a bunch of prospects to move that you can use for any draft day trades, and then see what you can potentially get with free agency before making any drastic moves. Tuch is still up in the air. You have 3 decently sized expiring contracts with byram, greenway, and zucker. Could also buy out norris and Samuelsson if you need space. The real barrier to anything is cash, will the team actually spend?

UPL assigned to Rochester for conditioning
PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Well ya, I guess, but if you're not going to play him it doesn't matter. As he's a young guy with a ceiling to come you'd think they would want to see what he has. If he's good you might look at ditching UPL. If you don't give him a look you just lose him when you waive him. -

Would it matter if we did anything?
