JustOneParade Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago (edited) The vibe around here is clearly on the upswing. GDT of three pages and puck drop is still 4 hours away. 👍 My goodness I hope they don't spit the bit tonight (like they've done so many times in similar circumstances). At some point, they'll actually play the game they need to play on the road and get themselves over NHL 0.500. Why not tonight? They normally save their stinker home games for the ones that are sold out/ close to sold out. But they played very well in their last few home games (even though on the scoreboard they were destroyed by Joisey). So, if they can get that monkey off their backs, why not get the road monkey and the can't crack 0.500 monkey off their backs too? They came back from behind to win in their last road game. No better time than the present to get it in your head that you WON'T stick it back up your arse just because you're still flexible enough to do so. 😉 Maybe the Sabres are ready for that next baby step? 3 Quote

It's probably not the best or fairest way to hand out a valuable extra point, but I agree that it's very fast and dramatic to watch. Gets the heart pumping a little bit faster. And after a string of OT losses, maybe it's starting to swing in the Sabres' favor. They do have the speed and offensive skill to succeed in OT and shootouts, and with mobile defensemen like Dahlin, Power, and Byrum, it should give them an advantage, as these guys can (theoretically....) defend, but also have speed and offensive skill to jump into the play in the offensive zone. Most teams have a guy or two of that ilk, but the Sabres have 3. Kesselring may also fall into that category when he returns. It's ironic that the guy with the recent OT game winner is Samuelsson, who is NOT that type of player. Where I only disagree with your post is the unfairness of earning a point for an OT and SO loss. What’s so unfair with a format that applies to all teams? What I do find unfair and aggravating is the arbitrary way the goalie interference rule is applied by the referees. (As noted by a previous poster.) 1 Quote

And to antagonize the members even more is that the shootouts are not only dramatic but also entertaining. It's to our advantage to get to the shootouts because we have players who excel in that format. 2 hours ago, msw2112 said: It is fun and almost a guilty pleasure. Any new ideas for OT? -4 on 4 with no offside or icing (pretend the lines aren't even there, its a pond hockey free-for-all!) -4 on 4 but only 1 guy listed as a 'defenseman' can be on the ice at any given time. (we see how bad forward are when they have to defend a rush pretending to be a D-man) -how about we stay with 3-on-3, but you can only have 2 skaters inside your own blueline at any time, so every offensive zone possession will be 3 on 2, but there is a chance for a breakout rush in the other direction at any time? -Goalies before overtime have to change pads and wear pads that are MUCH smaller (overtime pads!) along with they can't use a goal stick, but have to take on of their forwards or D-mens regular sticks. -instead of a shootout, lets make it a TAD more like real hockey. The shooting team starts with the puck at their own blue line, but with 2 guys out there. The opposing team has 1 defender, so every 'rush' on the shootout isn't a glorified penalty shot, but a 2-on-1. Not a breakaway competition, but rather a 2-on-1 break competition. C'mon, there has to be some crazier ideas out there! Quote
