GASabresIUFAN Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Right now we have 4 players on IR - Greenway, Power, Kesselring and UPL Who goes when they come back? Our extra players are 2 goalies (Ellis and Georgiev), 2 forwards (Geeraten & Kozak) and arguably 1 D if we keep only 7 D in Buffalo (Bryson or Johnson) If I were making the decisions: Greenway in for Kozak Kesselring in for Georgiev Power in for Bryson UPL in for Ellis Quote
Brawndo Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Power is skating in a non contact jersey and Alexandar Georgiev is not on the ice. On waivers perhaps? Quote

If you aren't willing to defend yourself or you teammates because Gertie is sitting on the bench, your team is going to be weaker not stronger. Not saying that's what will happen but toughness is a team effort. True, but I got tired of seeing those 3 having to drop them and no one else (accept maybe Clifton) and certainly no follow up (see Noeson and Thompson). Ruff wants to carry a tough guy, yet he didn't put Gilbert on the ice after Thompson got nailed, he wanted to score a goal. That was fine, but Gilbert never even got a shift after that. Why carry Gertie if that is how he is going to use him? Edited October 7 by Pimlach 1 Quote

Just amazing how much they mismanaged the easy parts. It sure seems that Adams loves to work on, 5/6/7/8 defenders, fourth line forwards, and backup goalies. Could that be why they don't get better? 1 1 Quote

So if they mutually agree to part ways and then the contract doesn’t get paid, it winds up essentially as a PTO. I don’t know, I get NHL or nothing vibes from this one and now that they’re not interested, he’ll leave. Quote

He scraps, he defends himself, he agitates, but his is not going to deter someone from taking liberties. Same with Benson and a few others. The team needs a fighter that can play a regular shift. 1 1 Quote

Why carry Gertie if that is how he is going to use him? It’s easier to write off one of 12 forward slots than it is 1 of 6 on D. Were they down any D back when all of that happened? Im not crazy about carrying the guy, but I could see him shuttling back and forth a lot. Is he Rempe insurance for game 1 and then he’s down already? Quote

The amount of churn is ridiculous -- even at a group of positions where you would expect churn. But what is the most damning of it is how many of them were brought in and immediately inserted higher in the lineup than that, plus Bryson has been here the entire time holding one of those slots and cannot be improved upon. (And again, that's not to disparage Bryson who is a valid 8-9 tweener guy, depending on the rest of the roster construction.) And he started with a D-corps that had Montour and McCabe (and Ristolainen, though the trade return was excellent). And he got Matt Irwin! Quote
dudacek Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 So very quietly, with the opening night rosters in place, the Sabres have come in at $2.1 million under the cap. They've spent more than 20 other teams. https://puckpedia.com/ Quote

LGR4GM Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 Running Bryson with Power is peek favoritism. Wonder if they comes from Ruff, Wilford, Adams, or Pegula? 1 1 Quote

It has to be Adams or Pegula, it truly is insane, like I actually cannot understand the logic here. I also cant understand the logic when your 3 toughest players are Greenway Kesserling and Geertsen, and you will be playing a pissed of Rangers team that will have Rempe playing, and two of those 3 are injured....you dont put Geertsen in? Absolutely insane 1 Quote

Back up to $3MM in space. 1 Quote

DarthEbriate Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 (edited) For myself, I'm much less worried about Geertsen being in the lineup here and there for feigned toughness (Ruff only dressed him for 25 games [and 5 fights] four seasons ago) than I am that somehow Johnson hasn't displaced Bryson in the lineup. The ol' eye test, the draft pedigree (and solid defensive career at Minnesota and Rochester), the size/weight, and that Power needs a defense-first partner.... It doesn't add up. Complete speculation: maybe he's just one of those guys who is just not impressive in practice/meetings, but get him in a game and he gives you low-event hockey, which is perfect for a 7D. The only positive take I can get here is maybe they think Kesserling wont be out long and that's why its Bryson playing, they want to keep all the other D pairs the same cause Kess maybe can play on the weekend? I don't know if that's the case but that's me hoping 2 Quote

LGR4GM Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 Then why wouldn't Ryan Johnson play with Power? He's shown to be better than Bryson is every preseason game. 2 5 1 Quote
