It could have a solid 3-year window to gel with bridges (or more) on Byram, Kesselring, and JBD. Byram-Dahlin Power-Kesselring Samuelsson-JBD (Clifton, Bryson-waive to AHL/tweener callup) The issue of course, is that it's not EEE if Byram, JBD, or Kesselring don't want to be here or want long-term deals. With the cap escalating, though, why would you go for a long-term deal if you're still on the ascent? 34 minutes ago, Brawndo said: Utah has three second round picks in 2026, they couldn’t have gotten the lowest one of them to replace theirs from the Norris-JBD Trade? As others have said along the thread, this trade lacks a 2nd or a swap of the firsts. Add #4, take away #9 and this trade works. Or, more likely, at least get that 2nd if they're being punks. Honestly, add #4 and I'm happy because I think you can still get more out of Quinn and Benson. And if Byram moves for a top-6 forward, it can still be OK. 15 minutes ago, OverPowerYou said: So the Utah Mammoth used to be the Phoenix Coyotes. We stole Briere from the Coyotes They stole Peterka from us Did we reverse the curse? I’m desperate and reaching If this is the case, we have to wait for Peterka to become a legitimate star, lead the Coyotes to a President's Trophy, a WCF... before departing in free agency. We'll be at year 19 by then. Quote

Shane Doan has a that fire like his dad did and is growing more and more into it. The only thing I don't like is that both of them are RFA's next season and we could be going through the same thing again next offseason but I don't hate this at all. Is their agent Allan Walsh? Why the hell would he want to come to the Sabres? It's close to Toronto where he is from? He gets to play Toronto a bunch of times and can stick it to them if he plays good in those games? In the last 20 years the Sabres have about the same amount of playoff series wins as Toronto? That's about all I got Quote

Benson has an average shot and if the goalie cheats, Benson is going to wrist it home. https://edge.nhl.com/en/skater/8484145 Try to find a 1st line player with worse numbers. I am not saying Benson is trash but promoting him to top line when every other player with Thompsons abilities gets to play with proven better players. Matthews, McDavid, McKinnon, etc. don't have to put up with what we do to Thompson. Quote

A soon to be 25yr old Bernard-Docker and a 25yr old Kesselring. Something that is below the radar to me is Bertnard-Docker. I'd like to see a bigger sample of him....as I didn't hate what little I saw last season. He should still be cheap as an RFA. I won't be surprised to see Clifton gone at the deadline (if not before). Even if this trade HAD to happen prior to the draft (or Utah would move on to a different move), there were still nearly 2 more days before that. Quote

I actually loved JBD play last season. I have mentioned this a few times. I get it, small sample size, but on a defensive deficient team, he stood out in my eyes. A solid 5-6 defensive guy that can be bumped to 3-4 for short periods and not cost you anything as he definitely handles his own end well. Quote
French Collection Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago If Kesselring is the answer to help out Power and Byram is dealt, they need to find a partner for Dahlin. I don’t want to see Mule in that role. Quote

DarthEbriate Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Cons: I'm going to miss "meesa Jar Jar Peterka! Meesa score bombad goals!" and the Peterka Puts It Away cat. Pros: He's the d-man that made the Kesselring in less than 12 parsecs! He's a spice mine! So... it'll all work itself out on the board. 1 Quote

Not to mention he was a tire fire defensively. Both players brought in have what this team needs. Some smart physicality and they are both tenacious! Doan forechecks like crazy and has decent speed. In this case i think we were overvaluing JJ. I still think we need to add another Solid Dman and a goal scorer. I have zero faith in Adams, but holds on to a bit of hope he can get this fixed. 1 Quote
Mr Peabody Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Guessing JJ wanting out was a mutual feeling with Lindy with Hamilton saying JJ didn’t like Lindy. Wild guess is they disagreed over defense. Ignoring the return (and as a wise poster above mention 30 other GMs had a chance to offer more), this trade seems to trend our team toward playing NHL type hockey. 1 Quote
darksabre Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago It's nice seeing the analysis come in that make this trade seem a little more sane. I have no affinity for most of the Sabres as I find them to be a catastrophically soft team despite their ability to score a boatload of goals. So I don't really care if guys like Peterka get moved. He had flashes of real skill, but I can't say he was all that compelling. Certainly not a guy you'd point to and say "he's key to winning a playoff series." Maybe he'll get there, who knows. Utah thinks so, I guess. Good for them. 5 1 Quote

Byrum hopefully gets moved for a top 6 forward. Muel stays because GMKA basically denied a buyout is happening and nobody will otherwise trade for his contract. That said, I hope somehow Muel gets a lobotomy and starts playing with more grit and jam. Quote
Thorny Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago (edited) 4 minutes ago, dudacek said: Maybe they just did a ***** job and we're wondering if there is a slim chance this might help fix it? It doesn’t matter. They made the trade under the knowledge they were taking a hit on return to save money. They don’t believe we got fair value - they are just hoping the value is close enough they can get lucky. Awful and insulting team building practices to the fans. If it works out it’s probably a negative on the macro: they’ll be encouraged to think they can further get away with cost cutting maneuvers Tell yourself whatever you want. That you are just clinging to hope. That’s what they want. I’m guilty of it too. I’m a hypocrite. We know they are counting on us ignoring the fact their goal is saving.
