So Dreger said the Peterka trade has juiced the Bo Byram talks.

Told Marty and Duffer that teams that had kind of faded because Buffalo’s push to get a RHD included in a Byram deal have been reenergized because Kesselring has made that less of a need.

Dreger says the serious interest in Byram is 6-8 teams deep.

Kings, Vegas, St. Louis, Philly, Toronto and (“weirdly”, he said) Colorado among those named among the front runners.

Byram to the Canucks for Pettersson? Is that at all possible? I wonder if his Swedish national teammate Dahlin could be an advocate.

Adams hates Rossi simple as that.

I would not have traded Peterka for Rossi however unless they added. I think I liked Peterka more than average here and I am pretty pissed we moved him for what we did but Rossi instead of him doesn't really fit with where this roster needs to go, especially if you are convinced Norris will play and be a solid 1C.

Here's my question though. How much better than Will Borgen is Kesselring? Because to me Kesselring is 50% Borgen 50% Jokiharju so he's more well rounded than either of them but we're basically not making progress.

You only like Peterka more than average around here since yesterday at around 11 pm

you’re good

How about something like Byram, UPL, #9 overall for Demko and Pettersson?  VAN say no?  Leaves a gaping hole at 1B defense, next to Dahlin than would have to be found in UFA

Not true at all. Go back several years and when you were all raving about Quinn I said I thought Peterka was the guy to watch and I thought he'd be better than Quinn. That got laughed at by the usual people. So whatever.

I'm listening to these Seravelli potential deals they possibly turned down and I'm just shaking my head. Adams really is a clown and there really is an internal cap.

That would work for me.

What other deals besides Rossi, which I'm fine with passing?

I saw it mentioned just as a theory by a good sabres twitter source that Bolduc would be the guy we get from STL for Byram and I honestly can’t unsee it now. It’s the exact Adams F add

My money is on that

shoot first, quick, ratio of 19 goals to 17 assists..this is going to be our guy

Kyrou was on the table; not sure what we had to add though

2 1sts and 2 roster players; likely bad ones

Rossi + a piece

Petersson?  I really like him (or should I say liked). I pushed for him as a top 10 player in the league 2 years ago, but its hard to not see that SOMETHING has happened to him.

I don't know what it is, some say it was him signing the contract. Someone on a Vancouver board says he got hurt during a late February game last year vs Minnesota. I'm not sure.

But he's been a different player than early in his career and its been like that for a while now.

Since last Feb of 2024 in that game vs the wild (1.5 seasons ago), including the playoffs, he has played 102 games, has 21g and 46a.

Thats a 16g, 37 assist, 53 point pace per 82, and that is over a full season and a half plus a playoff run, not a short term sample size.  For $11.7 million per year, long term, with a no movement clause?

To acquire him, it would probably be a massive mistake given his contract, unless he miraculously finds his game, or heals a big time injury here.

For that money, I need a center to be giving me close to 40 goals,  approaching 100 points, (maybe both?) over a full season But for the last going on almost 2 seasons, hes doing teens in goals and barely 50 points per 82.

If, IF, Kesselring is an above average defenseman, and Doan gives you mid teens in goals without being a total defensive sieve....then I'm fine with this trade.

My slight doubts lie with Kesserling though, I just don't know how good he is.  The automatic assumption is he will be paired with Power.  But hasn't everyone said they need a stable vet d-man to pair with Power...that is what Power needs?

Well Kesserling has less experience than Power. He's played only 2 full seasons..a total of 156 games, and he has less than half the total time on ice that Power has.  Maybe he's good, but doesn't exactly have the "this guy has seen it all" on the ice type of experience.

I think he has strong underlyings tbh.

We need production. Advanced metrics don't count if a guy can't hit a wrister in an open net. I want a top 6 with a proven track record of 50-60 points with 20 or more goals in the NHL at least 2 of the last 3 seasons. Preferably at Center at least 6'2 and over 185 lbs. That or a goalie that can start 50 or more games with a GAA under 2.85 in 3 of last 4 years and at least a .918 save percentage lol Yes, I'm making up stats on the spot with no research but it's what I define as a good player.

It will be a guy with the upside to do that and it will be a shoot first player

30-30 potential

25-20 current

The 2 firsts and 2 roster players; most likely cap dumps like the spare parts we got in the ROR trade.

Well if the rumors of 5-6 teams calling the Sabres about Byram are true, it looks like a realistic opportunity to get a good return is possible.

What about Trevor Moore from the Kings ? ( one of the teams calling , supposedly )..just one thought..

4.2 Mil AAV for 5 years signed in 2022. 18 goals last year. 31 the year before. Fills JJ's slot. Not the physical game... a Lady Bing type.

The 2 1sts and 2 players feels like San Jose trying to pass on Timothy Liljegren maybe Ty Dellandrea and 30OA in 2025 and Edmonton's 1st in 2026. That or Rangers passing on crap.

To be pessimistic he's bigger, but I'm not sure Kesserling is all that much better than Clifton. There's a ceiling not reached yet, but there's no certainty.

Okay, so it was Rossi, Kyrou, or a mystery team with two firsts and two "players." Then one NHL exec said he thought it was a fair trade. So which part is making you upset?

The return for Peterka. We aren't a better team after the trade and as I said elsewhere Peterka was one of only 5 players I really wanted to keep and build around.

Not better, if all you're looking at is offense. We got better defensively.
