Karmanos first two years in Buffalo, the team outstripped expectations. His Rochester teams have been very good over all 4 years. And then there's the 20+ years with Pittsburgh and Carolina and the 3 Stanley Cups. As for the bold, I think the recent hiring of Jason Botterill is all you need to know about the importance of team records when it comes to GM hires. Here's some other recent hires: Craig Conroy was an inside promotion from a mediocre Flames organization Kyle Davidson was an inside promotion from a mediocre Hawks organization Steve Staios had one year as a special advisor in Edmonton after running a minor league team Briere and Drury were internal hires promoted after their GMS got fired Mike Grier hadn't even been an assistant GM, he was a special advisor plucked from the Rangers Patrick Allvin was a long-time Penguins scout, who spent a couple years there as GM. GMs are business hires based largely on the impact their vision and presentation makes on the owner, supported by their reputation around the league. It's certainly not unheard of for the assistant GMs of top teams to make the step, but it would wrong to see that as the usual path. Jim Rutherford reached out to Karmanos for the job Allvin got; It's my understanding its no the only time he's been considered. Truth of the matter is that it's an old boys network. Ok you guys are slowly talking me off the Karmanos ledge lol.... I still am in the he has helped preside over this mess and I want new eyes on this mode... but at least I am starting to see that there might be hope for change if we kept him... still not there... and absolutely AGMs are promoted... a lot of them internally, I just dont know that they have the horrible track record for futility on those teams that we do... I also would hope that a major change with a major GM may make it more likely that Pegula steps out and simply provides resources... my concern is an internal promotion facilitates the same owner dysfunction we have had for a long time... ( although Briere and the Flyers have not been the poster child for organizational functionality. )
Pimlach Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago 19 minutes ago, JohnC said: Simple solution: Don't read the thread. It's like going to a Chinese restaurant when you hate Chinese food. And then afterwards, predictably complain about the food. Try Italian food instead. You might like the food better and it will fatten you up more. And don't forget to order the vino with it. If the food is not palatable, at least the wine will make up for it. You are confusing Italian food with North American Italian food. Italian food, if prepared and served correctly, is actually very healthy and nutricous. Go to Italy and you wont see bloated obese people all over the place, just the opposite. They eat a lot of fresh seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables. Way, way ,way less processed food, way less preservatives and chemicals in their food, way less junk food. Their diet is healthy. Foods like pasta and pizza are also served in much smaller portions and prepared in healthier ways. I want to live there full time. 1

Dont back out on me now LOL... I was just regaining hope LOL... but seriously both you and @Pimlach raise fair points... my jaded self didnt consider... especially about the AHL focus and not NHL focus... but I am with you both... I would really like to see a fresh start with indications from the owner he is going to do things differently... Edited 4 hours ago by JP51

And plum wine. 😇 I’m just looking forward to GMKA being the face of the franchise tonight during the lottery when some team leaps to the top and the Sabres end up with 8 overall. Just looking forward to Sheevyn’s smug smirk. Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen. When it comes to the Sabres predictability isn’t too difficult to do. 🙂
Mango Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago (edited) 3 hours ago, Pimlach said: The bolded is why I reacted. Brandon Beane has a job with the Buffalo Bills and that is enough work for him. I will assume you are just spit-balling and do not mean this. We don't need the Hockey GM to GTFO out of the way. We need him to establish credibility to a tarnished franchise, to help build a winning culture, and to lead us to victory. Hockey is a different sport, and the NHL is a much different league, and Brandon Beane is not going to fix anything on this hockey team. Every single year there is change in the NHL. Every year there is FO, coaching, and player movement. The Sabres have been content in the Adams/EEE era to play the slow game, to stockpile lottery tickets, wait for their prospects, and to "hope". According to rumors TP is looking at promoting the problem (Adams) up and maybe "out of the way". If this is even true, it sounds like another desperately flawed plan. We shall see. Round 1 of the playoffs are over. There is a two time Cup winning long standing NHL coach from his favorite city sitting out there. Will Terry write a check, drill a well, and even attempt to fulfill his blather about hockey heaven for Buffalo? The BB thing was just a joke about the terrible state of the franchise. I am not advocating for Beane to actually leave his role with the Bills. In general this franchise would be better off with literally anybody who knew enough to just back the fork off and hire somebody else underneath them who knows what they're doing. The Sabres would be better off if they hired a pro scout from the Buffalo Bisons to be President of the team. Edited 2 hours ago by Mango Fat fingers 1

Family came first, church and school were highest priorities, and country. Everything else was in the noise. The food back then, even if modest, was most likely still way healthier than the majority of what is out there today. 1

Adams calls the shots for the Sabres, not Karmanos. I have no problem with giving Karmanos a shot at GM, admittedly in part because I highly doubt that Terry can conduct a GM job search. I do have a problem with retaining and promoting Adams. Adams poor results are out there and cannot be ignored. Do you really believe Adams has been calling the shots for the Sabres? I don’t know what role Karmanos has been in this debacle, but from all of KA’s interviews and Embedded episodes, KA seems like more of a consensus builder. And if he is making unilateral decisions, those are coming from Terry. At least with Botts and TM, for better or worse, I firmly got the feeling they were in charge. This is not to excuse KA poor job performance, but maybe we need someone who is more opinionated.

Just what they pull out of the sea each day will amaze you. They can grow just about everything. The tendency is to eat what is fresh and in season. Pretty much every region has things they specialize in, there is great diversification and they take great pride in whatever they produce. Also of note, like the rest of Europe, they import very little food from the US or Canada. We use chemicals and drugs in food here that they don't care to ingest.
