I think a pair of Ryan Johnson - Rasmus Dahlin and Clifton - Jokiharju could at least sorta kinda hold the top 4 up for a bit. We should be trying to trade with Calgary at this point. Hanifin or Tanev or preferably both.

Ideal but Tanev has a no trade 10 team least.  Gotta think Buffalo is #1 or #2 team on most players list

But he's a positive influence on Power and Dahlin  lol

scary part of this season the D is basically Dahlin and a bunch of guys who play is at best 3rd pair

power and Samuelson should be relegated to bottom pair but there is no one to take their place in the top 4

that's Adams issue to resolve immediately

To the bold.    Yeah.... Good luck with that.

Is Skinner ready to play tomorrow night?

Agree that R Johnson and Dahlin COULD be good.  Just really am getting tired of expecting rookies to play above where they should because the vets are either underperforming or outright bad.

Dahlin-Jokiharju is far from ideal (and have railed against it for ages), but it seems the best they have right now.  (For the simple reason, don't want to force R Johnson into top pairing in his 1st NHL season.)

Put the rookie on the 2nd pairing with somebody else, Clifton is somebody else, maybe him but don't really want him on 2nd pairing either, and let them get slightly reduced ice time for a 2nd pairing with 2 of the others getting 3rd pairing usage but slightly above average 3rd pairing ice time.

The F's not abandoning the zone at the instant control might be gained could help all of them look better too.

So... on paper at least, not necessarily on-ice yet this season...

Is Greenway-Mitts-Benson the best 3rd line they've iced since the back half of 2015-16 when they made a bit of a surge up to 81 points from the original super-tank years? (Kane-Larsson-Gionta).

And barring that... the 2012 playoffs featured Leino-Roy-Pominville. Maybe a contender?

2010-11: Hecht-Niedermayer-Grier; 2009-10: Hecht-Gaustad-Grier

Our defensemen don’t seem to have any pride… or shame…

It was reported last night that not one defenseman… including Dahlin… stayed in the locker room to speak to the media after their dismal performance last night…

Unless they bolted as a unit to meet privately to process their failure, Dahlin effectively removed himself as a favorite for Captain, imo… At least KO stayed and took every question.

He MIGHT need benching.  (Heck, he probably does.)  But would rather give him 3rd pairing usage for a bit to see if he can work through his issues.  If he's on his game, he's better than either of the 2 FAs brought in.

Problem is, Power should be getting 3rd pairing usage right now too (or a benching).  Can't bench 4 of them and ice a roster.

The issue this team is having is that benching doesn’t work when there’s no comparable in the pipeline. This team needs a lot of vet free agent help to not just kick these kids in the arse but push them down the depth chart a bit.

I used to coach at a pretty high level, did some stuff with the USOC, team USA, etc. Sometimes a young group can push each other forward until they leap frog themselves and become world beaters But sometimes they need to be the JV before they become starters.

Even in college a really good freshman class can be great out of the gate but if you miss the mark in the next class or two it’s common to see them hit their ceilings pretty quickly.

All sports aren’t the same, but there have been times that young studs have plateaued without having anybody pushing them from out front out behind.

Sure Mule needs to be benched. So has Cozens, Tuch, and Skinner. But when the replacement is Krebs or Rosen it isn’t really a threat or a punishment for the player at all.
