I popped into this thread and first read Inky's Kulich post. I went straight to the scoresheet to check Kulich out and in doing so saw a G beside Strauss Mann. Thinking it was in error I came back in here. I'm surprised the goalie "scoring" in the 1st period isn't a bigger topic of conversation.

Has that ever happened before in the NHL? I wonder if Strauss Mann would take any pride in that given it was just an own goal? Didn't look like it in the clip I guess.

He did skate along the bench and get fist pounds, which I’ve never seen a goalie do before. That was kind of cool.

I think the first ever NHL goalie goal was scored by Billy Smith on a similar play. He made a save and was the last Islander to touch the puck before the other team (Rockies?) passed to the point where no one was standing and the puck ended up in their own net.

If it's a delayed penalty did the goal stand?

I believe it did. It’s a delayed penalty, so as long as the non-offending team retains possession, the puck remains in play. The problem is fluke plays like this. The play should have been whistled dead as soon as the offending team touched the puck, but it doesn’t work this way.

I read more about it. The play gets whistled dead once the offending team regains possession. In this case, Laval didn’t. Still weird, because taking a shot on goal should constitute possession, unless it doesn’t apply to goalies.

Is Metsa injured or is there another reason he isn’t seeing ice time?

Healthy, just too many D. Johnson, Prow, Davies, Stillman, and Novikov are the locks to play. Clague recently sat, as did Cecchoni. I’m guessing he’ll play Friday as Appert probably doesn’t want him sitting for too long.
