Thoughts on the power play?

From the Buffalo News: Since March 1, Buffalo’s power play ranks fifth in the NHL with a conversion rate of 28.6% across 24 games.

What do you think about what you are seeing? Does anything need to change?

The entire season leading up to March 1....Olofsson had 1 PPG

Since March 1, Olofsson has 6 PP goals.

As Victor produces...so goes the PP.

It feels like once the Sabres get set up in the offensive zone they can be reasonably (above average?) productive. VO being at full strength helps. But .... getting the puck into the zone and set up with the man advantage seems to be quite problematic more often than not. (As opposed to teams easily gaining the zone regularly against the Sabres when on their PP). The data may prove this all to be a mirage.

If we miss anything from Jack, this is the one area he excelled at… puck protection. That helped quite a bit on our power plays.

Our 2nd unit is almost as dangerous as the 1st lately and that’s new territory for this team.

I’m a little surprised about how much Tuch and Thompson have not handled zone entries well on the PP, because at even strength they seem pretty good.

Their ability to get into the offense zone is horrible!!! Once they are in the zone It looks like uncontrolled chaos, but once they settle it down, they are money. They need to seriously work on entering the zone..... i think a lot of it is young confidence. It will get better as they team matures

They seem to be doing a good job getting pucks through the box to him.

Mitts and Krebs are a work in progress in their current roles.

Wish each was showing at least a bit of a threat as a shooter.

It also helped that Mitts became the distributor on the first unit.  As I’ve said before, getting VO and Mitts healthy changed the Sabres from a two effective line team to a team able to roll four lines 5 on 5 and their impact has been bigger on the PP.  Mitts has 7 PP points and 7 EV points since 3/1.
