The move back to wing has perhaps ignited Sam. If it took his lacklustre period of time at C to reaffirm to him and the team his proper long term placement, it was more than worth it.

Right? I'm so comfortable moving forward now that we gave it the time. They may try him again in the future when we have better wing depth but there is no longer any "what if" for me. We just doubled the sample size and have come to a more solid conclusion.

Agreed. Let Sam grow into the contributing top 6 winger that, honestly, we need more than a 3C right now, and likely going forward, with the likes of Asplund, Mittelstadt, and others in the system, and Eichel and ROR up top. If he develops to his full potential, complete with the accompanying confidence, he'll be better equipped to fill in at C in a pinch down the line for an injury when we are a better team, with more depth.

That last goal against highlights something that rarely gets pointed out with respect to Lehner: Every, single, time, he plays the puck, it's a giveaway. There's absolutely no point. He just flings it around and an opponent gets there first. Without fail. The only time he should ever leave that cage is to stop the puck on the PP when there's no forechecking pressure. Otherwise, our players at least have a chance to win a race and he is prepared to make a save if he just stays put, versus a guaranteed possession for the opponent, with a floundering goalie.

Plus, is there a single person on Earth who can't see that Sam-Jack-Kane is miles better than Pominville-Jack-Kane? He makes good players better it seems, even if he can't elevate the play of bad ones. I'm seriously tempted to go rewatch games and clock offensive zone time and completed passes at even strength for the two lines to see how big the discrepancy is. My eye test says it's enormous.
