Patrick Kane: [Updated] D.A. Decides Not to Prosecute; NHL Determines Claims "Unfounded"

That Aud Smell

Recommended Posts

Seemed to be a poor woman's repackaging of the article by the Chicago guy that came out when this all started.

"The accused athletes are not unfailing heroes. They’re not your “brah” even if he did once buy you a shot."

I think she read the piece you mention and is either paraphrasing the original or unconsciously parroted it.

That seems way too easy to me.

You're putting my thoughts to words. Thanks. Can I hire you out?

Too easy is right. I always have that thought when the explanations for mass shootings emerge in the days and hours after the event. Heavy metal. Video games. Bullying. Girl trouble. Boy trouble. The Confederate flag.

You're right. It's not a sports story. And it's a not a problem so easily solved that the answer is politically correct speech that will somehow magically make it less likely that someone predisposed to rape will rape.

Unless I'm mistaken, our fearless leader is just throwing some broad-brush shade at feminist theory, generally.

Because, you know, feminists haven't actually accomplished anything meaningful (sufferage, shmufferage). Basically, those ladies need to lighten up and get over themselves. And also grab me a beer while they're up. And lose a few pounds.

Feel free to take down your straw man.

I stand by D4rk and Liger in the same discussion. Welcome to our new world, everybody.

There's been a ton of anti-feminism from some posts in this thread. It may be misinformation and/or the common assumption that feminists are all loud, man-hating, -wielding in your streets crazies. They aren't. They just want women to continue progressing towards true equality. They are women AND men. We are not here to take over the world, just to make it better for others.

I did. I passed on the conversation...

The only thing you're passing is gas. How about this? Speak plainly. How about this? Say what you want to say.

Maybe dance the dance for once eh? Instead of sticking your head in just long enough to insult people by acting as though your unwillingness to commit to a line of argument is some favor to them. Ah yes, you're sparing them a great indignity at your hand.

Yawn.

I feel compelled to post this.  Rape culture does exist and we have witnessed it manifest several times in this very thread.  Rape culture and sports culture are not the same thing.  Sports however bring a spotlight to whatever aspects of life they touch and sometimes those aspects are terrible.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_culture

Me thinks you didn't even to bother to read your posted entry.

Something specific because that is a really vauge comment to me right now

Well, the entry starts with "In feminist theory..."

So, I don't know... you could start there and see what happens.

Sorry, I am still not following?  I wanted to provide some background on what "rape culture" is considered.

Eh, if it isn't self-evident then it would require far too much energy to explain.

And you can feel free to eschew obfuscation.*

The bold portions above correlate with each other, as do the italicized portions. Correct?

I was just funning (yes, in order to make a point (not about you, but about slagging feminists generally)) with my hey baby stuff in italics.

But you were, were you not, first implying that a Wiki link that starts out with reference to "feminist theory" was, presumably, not so good. Right?

Such a take would be in line with something one of our mods (it was nfreeman, innit?) had posted way upthread. Duly noted.

*Hey! Second time in recent memory I dropped reference to my favorite moment in MNF history.

What does obfuscation have to do w/ LT snapping Theismann's career or Jest fans getting ticked at their team and trying to burn down the stands? Don't recall obfuscation having anything to do w/ Reich's Rams game nor Jimbo's Bungles game. Was there any in Biscuit's strip sack of Marino that he walked in for 6?

Enquiring minds want to know. ;)

Miller was in the booth. End of a game that wasn't close. I think they were in Candlestick (and now I am getting a distinct sense that I recently posted this exact explanation here on this board (sorry, folks)). Guy at game's end is shown holding up a sign that says "Hey, Miller: Eschew Obfuscation!" To which Miller dryly retorts "Yeah, pal. Eschew YOU!"

So, on reflection, that was my favourite MNF moment in the same way that Briere spearing Ovechkin was my favourite moment from #48.

Wow, I've totally blocked out that Dennis was on MNF for a year. Amazing how the start of bad football by the Bills and young kids running around the house allowed that season to find it's way to a back cranny of the ol' mental attic.

Still, what I recall of that season, it wasn't as fun as listening to OJ & Namath take pot shots at each other for a year w/ Frank Gifford trying to play referee for 3 hours.

You think rapes start in the locker room? Is that what you are saying? Is that what rape culture means? The toleration of the objectification of women?

I don't think it is anti-feminine at all to suggest that rapes are acts well beyond linguistic or even pornographic objectification. (As objectionable as those things may be).

They are much more to do with disordered acts of violence and domination than with sexual gratification or even prowess.

If every locker room in America adopted a code of silence where athletes were not allowed to speak at all, I think you would find the change in the country in sexual assaults would be statistically insignificant.
