Evaluation still pending, but according to inside info, "it's pretty bad". #Caps
IKnowPhysics
Early reports indicate the injury didn't occur while he was back checking. Just kidding, I hope he's ok. IKnowPhysics
Open ice hip check, Ovi partially dodged/German player partially missed, primary point of contact was the knee: http://www.russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2014/05/18/alex-ovechkin-injured-at-world-championships-gif/ Ouch. ROC Sabres
I'd guess MCL tear at worse. Maybe both MCL and ACL but didn't look like that big of a hit..

TrueBlueGED
Early reports indicate the injury didn't occur while he was back checking. No, but he was actually inside the defensive zone. Baby steps!

So which knee? looks like Ovi got the right on up and hyperexteded the left to avoid the hit.
IKnowPhysics
So which knee? looks like Ovi got the right on up and hyperexteded the left to avoid the hit. I read it was the right knee. I believe impacts hyperextend muscles and ligaments much easier than simply overexerting.

X. Benedict
That's a shame. ACL's suck, but it isn't the death sentence it once was.

qwksndmonster
Why, hmm? So we can trade for him, Lucic, Pacioretty, and Vanek and have the wing-heaviest roster in the league! 6-10th place in the east, here we come! Assquatch
So which knee? looks like Ovi got the right on up and hyperexteded the left to avoid the hit. At the end of the .gif as he's being helped off the ice he's putting all his weight on the left and none on the right.
wjag
ACL's suck, but it isn't the death sentence it once was. True.. But you never have that burst of speed you once did. And that burst was the hallmark of his game.
26CornerBlitz
@SlavaMalamud An inside source has said the MRI on Ovechkin was negative for a tear, the knee was still badly swollen this morning. #Caps

Kristian
@SlavaMalamud An inside source has said the MRI on Ovechkin was negative for a tear, the knee was still badly swollen this morning. #Caps Makes sense, as his right skate is off the ice at the point of impact. The impact itself is still massive though. Good for Ovi though. I get the feeling a blown knee would've impaired his skating some going forward, and seeing as explosiveness is a big part of his game, losing even 5% could mean a lot.
