If you're pointing out someone's shelf life, I'm not so sure listing people his age or younger really shows anything. The one guy that does stand out there, though, is Lidstrom. The guy's a freak of nature. He also just happens to be the greatest defenseman of this generation. There's no one else in the game today that's even remotely like him.

The big strike against McCabe after his age is the amount of hockey he's missed in the last few years. That's a major concern with an older defenseman.

No way do I want McCabe. His value is as PP specialist...maybe he's the kind of guy you pick up at trade deadline to add to a powerplay, but he's not a great fit for Buffalo. He fit in Florida on the back of the trap, but he's not the kind of guy for a possession type game that Buffalo plays. His better days are way behind him.

No way does this organization allow itself to be plastered with eggs by having stafford go to arbitration, it wont happen because it screams Hockey Hell, not Hockey Heaven. Stafford will be signed or his rights traded, either way I expect to hear something within the next month on the issue either way.

No player other than Lidstrom whos over 36 and plays def deserves anywhere near 6mil... 4mil is iffy. Lidstrom is not an example, hes an exception to the 35+ rule of old guys slow down.

I agree with both of these statements.

Valid. And he made around $4M this year. In addition, I may have let my brother whisper sweet nothings about him in my ear one too many times. I'll change my mind to Markov or Wienewski (Assuming MTL Can't keep both).

Markov's probably the biggest question mark of them all. He's played 52 games combined over the last two seasons (7 this year). Someone may wind up with a very good hockey player there, but I think the risks with him are astronomical. I think his knee's shot.

Which is why he could very likely get a bonus-laden 1 year deal. He is the exact type of player that they were thinking of when writing that clause into the CBA.

Low risk but w/ lots of potential reward (for both sides).

What's the cutoff for number of games missed before they can get a deal like that? That's one of the sections of the CBA I almost always wind up skipping.

It doesn't go by games, it goes by days on IR. If the player has qualified as a 400 or more game player, AND he's spent at least 100 days on IR in the previous season, AND he signs a 1 year deal, then he can have an incentivized contract.

I always get the requirements for incentive-laden contracts mixed up with those for veteran minor-leaguer (or whatever that's called) status. The latter is based on NHL games played over the last and/or previous two seasons. I end up just looking them up again before opening my big mouth.

Anyone else want to take a shot:

The Calculator

Laich 3.25- Roy 4- Stafford 3.65

Ennis .875- Pavelski 4- Pommers 5.3

Gerbe 1.4 - Gaustad 2.3- Vanek 7.1

Kaleta 1- McKormick .75 - Kassian .9

-Vanek and Laich could be switched up but I figured get scoring on all lines.

Myers 1.3 - Ehrhoff 4.75

Weber 1 - Gragani .9

Leopold 3 - Sekera 1.5

Markov 4 + Butler 1.2 as backups

Enroth1.4, = 53.625 without miller 6.25 or lalime @ .7

(I took ryan miller out just for fun because The "Philly series was a Microcosm of his Career") Fail.

You like hockey quite a bit.....you should check out the shot charts from the series. Miller was good.

Shot chart probably looks like some gamer pro playing the computer on easy in NHL 11... everything is in the slot or around the circles... instead of x's its just a big blob of red.

You have a link for that actually i would like to see it.

I think he has a twice torn ACL. I'd be surprised if anyone touches him.

Pretty close actually...The first period Philly had 7 shots inside 10 ft.

Easiest way is to get the shot charts on the ESPN gamecast...you have to toggle a bit for period and to sort. There are better charts out there but this is the easiest to get at.

ahh thank you. yup this proves how bad miller is. Even Bobrovsky would stop shots from 10ft. :death:

That is the coolest thing I've seen on the internet today! :clapping:

Are these updated during the games or afterwards?

Anyway, interesting to see all of the blocked shots by Philly here. I didn't think the Sabres were making them work in their zone, but apparently they were.

I'm pretty sure they go throughout the game, but I usually check them afterwards.

As for ESPN ...I only wished they had PP shots on there too.

It usually gives you a sense of how a game was played.

Like tonight's game....

Only about 7 Vancouver shots had a chance of going in. The two that did were right in the kitchen.

Nashville did a heck of a job containing the Sedins this series.

"Buffalo Sabres: Terry Pegula jokingly suggested that players have rearview mirrors installed on their helmets to avoid legal hits. Every shift against Mike Richards(notes) would be like the scene in "Jurassic Park" where the jeep is being chased by the tyrannosaurus."
