[OT] Larry Quinn is truly clueless

I have been on the Bass Pro bandwagon since day 1, but that ship sailed when Higgins gave them the ultimatum last month and Bass Pro jumped all over it, bidding Buffalo farewell.

This is what happens when a former construction manager schmoozes his way to positions of power.

This quote from the article is great...

"I think Bass Pro is going to need to get an order of protection against the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp.," said Delaware Council Member Michael J. LoCurto."

Shh - let Larry keep playing with his scale model that probably cost the city $250k and keep trying to talk to Bass Pro. Then maybe he'll forget the hockey season is starting.

That model is hilarious. Does it actually look like anything anyone has seen in the real world? It's quite bizarre.

The thing that struck me is that construction continues on a 17 million dollar parking garage. The city will probably end up giving it to the Sabres, rent-free. Maybe that's LQ's angle here.

Yeah....but Larry's brother in law probably owns the company that made the model.

I'm voting for Lazio today just because Paladino has been in bed with the Dems the whole time and is actually probably running as a favor to make the Republican/Tea party base look even crazier than they are. And he's dangerously close to enough votes to get the podium for 2 more months.

Yeah, but Lazio's a useless tool who has no chance of winning anything. Paladino likely doesn't either, but at least he will keep things interesting. Right now, Quomo isn't even acknowledging he's in a race. He's just the crown prince parading around the state waiting for his induction. That sense of entitlement pisses me off.

And I thought the only thing sadder than waiting nine years for Bass Pro was not having a contingency plan in case the deal went south. This is almost unbelievable....it almost makes Quinn look like he has no grasp of reality. Let's face it, Larry - if a company strings you along for nearly a decade, there not going to acquiesce now. Forget about BassPro. Move on. It's over. How about a nice public market or a Chart House restaurant?

What about a football stadium, casino, or yacht club. How about a little nightlife area?

Their own study doesn't show a Bass Pro type store is what the public wants

Citizens Waterfront forum

I love that someone voted for a gentleman's club.

Just how many empty museums are taxpayers expected to fund? Just what we need - more tax exempt buildings on the most valuable property in Erie County. A museum for Cheerios? Really? Why don't they just put the story on the back of their box - then people would actually read it.

Put up more bars - at least they generate tax revenue and will fill the 15 billion dollar parking garage.

I think Bass Pro is a good idea. I've always thought that. I actually think Cabela's might even be better since they not only have the fishing, but are also geared more toward hunting and camping.

I'm just trying to figure out how this makes Quinn clueless.

Did Bass Pro string Buffalo along or was Buffalo's government too dysfunctional to get the deal done?

I don't have an opinion on Bass Pro itself, and I'm no fan of LQ's, but I agree that I didn't see anything in the article that made LQ out to be a tool.

What downtown (and WNY generally) needs desperately is jobs. I'd guess that a Bass Pro and/or an Ikea would create many more jobs than museums and bars.

1. Bass Pro strings them along for 5+ years.

2. Congressman Higgins gives Bass Pro an ultimatum last month to ###### or get off the pot.

3. Bass Pro says "okay we're out".

4. LQ less than a month later wants to restart Bass Pro talks.

If Bass Pro wanted to open a store here, do you really believe they would have walked away last month? Despite this, LQ wants to start wooing them again. Seems pretty clueless to me.

Bass pro lists a store in buffalo on this year's catalog, so yeah, I would say they were serious.

Leave it to Buffalo politicians. They could screw up an ######.

Edit: the correct spelling of orgie gets edited?

I'm no fan of his, but to me, it sounds like a tenacious businessman who isn't going to take "No" for an answer.

Wow.

I know. I saw that when the catalog came out a month ago and thought it might actually happen. I was confused when I heard all this talk about them backing out. Should have known better than to get my hopes up.
