For those of you playing NHL Commissioner the Home Game, the goal of Seattle playing in the 2020-21 season is based on the NHL wanting to have the added value of demonstrated television ratings in a giant US TV market in hand as they negotiate the new TV contract. The current NBC contract's last season is 2020-21. But if not, they'll hire analysts to guess at that value (already done?) and go with that. The "latest" of Seattle playing by 2021-22 is so that the TV contract pays for Seattle for its entire span without any years missing.

That's good, then, because Beaulieu-Tennyson played 63:22 at 5-on-5. Don't get me wrong, I think Tennyson the individual hockey player -a 28 year old AHLer- should be in Rochester, but this is likely why he's not: Beaulieu played roughly equal 5-on-5 time with Nelson and Tennyson last year, and both pairs allowed exactly the same number of shot attempts, except when Beaulieu played with Tennyson, they generated 72 shots attempts for, compared to 42 shot attempts generated when he played with Nelson. The Tennyson CF% was among team best, the Nelson CF% was among team worst. 30 shot attempts different over ~60 minutes of 5-on-5 is a ludicrously stark metric. How many games does it take to demonstrate how bad that pairing is? How many games can the Sabres afford to ice a pairing that bad? If it wasn't Bogosian that was injured and Beaulieu that needed a partner, I think Tennyson would be eating garbage plates on the reg. You can choose to buy into the data or not, and you can choose to buy into Housley or not, but the data aligns with Housley's decisions. Get indignant if you want, I guess, but with zero wins and zero losses, it's a little early in the regular season to start hucking rocks at the coaching staff.

Team Predictions Sabres' Final Record: 36-35-11 Total Goals Scored: 221 Total Goals Allowed: 242 Based on the offseason moves, we should be able to make back 30 goals in goal differential. That includes Hutton and much of the bottom six adjustment. Adding Dahlin, if he plays Risto-like, could yield another 6 goals in differential. Reinhart playing like the dickens for a full 82 games and producing 30 goals would be another 6 (actual 2nd half pace calc = +14 goals, but I don't think Reinhart scores 38). Jack elevating his game to 30 goals would be another 5. I'm gonna hand-wavingly give each of six defensemen an improvement of 2 goals (maybe +1GF, -1GA) each based on a Phil Housley and Steve Smith coaching bonus for another 12. If we take our -80 goal differential from this year and add that back, that'd be -21, which would be good enough for 83 points, or 21st. That requires: Hutton playing as expected, Skinner matching Kane, Jack elevating from 25 to 30G (or equivalent goal dif), Reinhart elevating from 25 to 31G (or equivalent goal dif), Dahlin being 6 goals better than who he replaced, defense otherwise being 12 goals better than before, everything else (forwards) pitching in to cover O'Reilly's absence (as expected). Power Play Ranking: 18th PK Ranking: 19th All-Star Players: Eichel Award Winners/Finalists: Dahlin (Calder Memorial) Player Predictions Top 3 goal scorers 1.) Reinhart 2.) Eichel 3.) Skinner Top 3 point totals 1.) Eichel 2.) Reinhart 3.) Ristolainen Sabres' best rookie: Rasmus Dahlin Biggest surprise: Patrik Berglund (veteran forward), Jake McCabe (veteran defenseman), Tage Thompson (young forward) (Dahlin's not a surprise) Biggest disappointment: Zach Bogosian's health How many games/wins for the goalies? Ullmark: 27 Hutton: 55 other(injuries): Wedgewood gets called up to ride bench for 2 games.

Most of you have seen this, but it's handy in this thread: D Pairs: Scandella(L)-Ristolainen(R) McCabe(L)-Dahlin(L) Beaulieu(L)-Bogosian(R) Nelson(R) Tennyson(R) With Bogosian injured, and a Beaulieu-Nelson pair playing terrible last year, you're likely gonna see Tennyson leapfrog Nelson into the #6 spot and play as a sheltered pair with Beaulieu to start the season. I think if Bogosian were healthy, Tennyson would be in Rochester, and we'd have a Guhle-Nelson 4th pair. But with Nelson edging Guhle in camp, but being a mismatch with Beaulieu, Housley's going with a pair he was comfortable with last year.

1996 Ted Nolan wouldn't have allowed this slackery.
-
Dallas gave him a one year extension on July 4th. Must have gotten surprised in camp by Hintz. Bunch of single goal highlights here. Looks speedy, grindy. Got decent usage last year as a call-up-stay-up.

That's exactly Chris Neil on Chris Drury.

PSA: Ad on WGR about crossing the border with a DWI
IKnowPhysics replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
Story time. Not a DWI story, but a border crossing story, just for shits. About six UB undergrads, all under 21, packed into somebody's Nissan stanza, driving up to Niagara Falls CA (with a DD) on a Saturday night to go drinking at the night clubs. We know we're underage, and we know the border agents know we're underage, so when they ask where we're going, we know the standard safe response is "Goin to see the Falls." So we get to the border agent on the Canadian side of the Rainbow Bridge. We hand over our IDs, and the Canadian border agent asks us where we're goin. The driver responds, "we're goin up to the night club to get drunk. I'm the DD." Everyone in the car freezes with fear. I mean, he knows we're under age. The border agent hands back the IDs and says, "Welp, carry on. Don't do anything I wouldn't do." We start to pull away. And then we hear him scream at the top of his lungs "AND I DO A LOTTT!!!" We lost our laughing about that all night. The US folks aren't allowed to be that funny. -
Watching the DVR now. Brendan Burke calls a damn good game. Good moonlighting hire by NBC. Kinda too bad he's with the Islanders in the regular season for the next foreseeable future.

Today at the Clintonville car show: a weiner, some nuts, and a dumper in back.

That line really kicked me in the nuts. Just brutal.

It's a time-honored tradition in preseason that rookies on the cusp demonstrate their determination, will, and intensity by fighting, thereby getting them noticed by coaches and fans. This isn't new. Guys that don't have a lot of tools go in thinking they gotta kick someone's ass like it's their first day in prison. Baddock found the biggest dude in the yard and broke him off a piece. Is it righteous? It's as righteous as fighting is to the sport.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_NIST_World_Trade_Center_Disaster_Investigation Report on the World Trade Center Disaster Investigation performed after the FEMA World Trade Center Building Performance study. NIST houses the National Construction Safety Team, created in 2002 because FEMA didn't have legal authority to gather the information it needed to perform a thorough investigation. The NCST is now effectively like the National Transportation Safety Board, but for buildings. The NIST findings are here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_NIST_World_Trade_Center_Disaster_Investigation#Findings The actual report is here: https://www.nist.gov/engineering-laboratory/final-reports-nist-world-trade-center-disaster-investigation Wacky conspiracy theorists love to all over these reports, which is what I suspect etienne is attempting to goad me into wasting my time discussing.

Sabres @ Blue Jackets 1st Preseason game 7pm tonight!
IKnowPhysics replied to North Buffalo's topic in The Aud Club
According to this: https://www.diebytheblade.com/2018/9/17/17869608/preview-buffalo-sabres-open-the-preseason-against-the-columbus-blue-jackets This is correct. Use the usual streaming whathaveyou. -
Pairs from the scrimmage: Scandella-Ristolainen, Dahlin-McCabe, Lawrence Pilut-Taylor Fedun-Zach Redmond. Nathan Beaulieu-Zach Bogosian, Brendan Guhle-Casey Nelson, Brandon Hickey-Matt Tennyson, Devante Stephens-Will Borgen Hunwick was out with an upper body injury. It's worthwhile to note that Guhle-Nelson was one of the better performing pairs at CF% 56.80 over 127:15 last year. I'm starting to get the impression that Housley is either data driven or what he's seeing and deciding happens to match the data.

Are we going to win it all? No. OBVIOUSLY HELL YEAH WE ARE But it's a brand new team. Lots of stuff to watch. New goaltending, new defense, new top six, new bottom six. New scoring winger, new prospect wingers, new grindy wingers, new center(s), #1 overall D man in years and he's like five years old, new #6-7 D on the team. If you're not excited by the new stuff, you might at least be intrigued by it. Interesting season coming up. And I like hockey, so just going from offseason to regular season, I'm already at half-chub.

Aud needs better aim with poxes. Best of luck to Jeff.
